Chapitre 195: Chapter 195: Transforming Reid (Part 2) and Graduation

After Jack almost cheated to enhance Reid's physical fitness, by the fourth month, Reid had stumbled through the combat training and achieved an average score on the physical tests, surprising the FBI Academy instructors.

Following this, Jack devoted a significant amount of time to teaching Reid shooting skills.

The daily repetition of radio calisthenics and martial arts routines greatly improved Reid's coordination. He didn't have much of a problem in this area to begin with; he wasn't one of those "geniuses" who could trip over their own feet.

However, long-term lack of exercise and reflexive self-defense made him appear clumsy and lacking in confidence in front of others, giving the impression of being awkward and ungainly.

Compared to three months ago, Reid now seemed like a different person from the neck down, as Rossi put it. Not only was he much more robust, but his temperament had also changed considerably.

Indeed, after the little weakling became a normal-sized person, his baby face looked quite cute. Jack felt it could probably evoke a protective instinct in many older women.

An average FBI trainee might consume about a thousand rounds of ammunition for shooting practice over five months. Jack planned to have Reid consume three times that amount in the remaining two months.

"First point, focus on the front sight, not the target. I don't need to explain the principle of alignment to you; as a doctor, you understand the focusing principle of the human eye better than I do," Jack repeatedly explained the shooting fundamentals to Reid from behind.

"Second point, pull the trigger subconsciously. This is a handgun; you don't need to hit a target a kilometer away. Once you're in position, you can pull the trigger at any time."

"Third point, follow through. After firing a shot, don't worry about whether you hit the target. Make it a habit to realign the gun with the target, or it could cost you your life."

Each day, Reid was only allowed to eat after finishing a box of bullets. As Reid diligently sent one bullet after another into the target, Jack stood by, loading bullets for him.

After a week, Reid finally overcame his fear of shooting. Although he wasn't exceptional, he managed to hit head targets at 15 meters and torso targets at 20 meters without missing.

"I think I can reach your shooting level before leaving the academy."

In the second week, Reid looked at his scores proudly and made such a bold statement.

"Are you sure?"

Jack turned to him, drew a training Glock 19 from its holster, and emptied the magazine at a 20-meter torso target without looking back.

As the target paper was automatically delivered to the shooting position by the machine, Jack slapped the target paper, with the bullseye completely shot out, in front of Reid.

"Keep practicing and add an extra box of bullets each day. Come to me if your wrist hurts; I have medicinal wine."

Jack was not joking. He had used all 10 system gold coins he painstakingly saved up after the counterfeit case to upgrade his master-level handgun skills. This was not a challenge for a newbie who hadn't even held a gun for a month.

Jack admitted that even with his hacks, his brain was not as quick as Reid's. But in other aspects, Jack had never been inferior to anyone.

In the history of the FBI, field agents were reassigned every two to three years, which caused considerable dissatisfaction among them. This frequent relocation meant that every few years, agents had to resettle their families or face long periods of separation from them, which was a significant inconvenience for those with families.

In recent years, the FBI had adopted more humane policies, reducing such reassignments. However, for new agents, "Assignment Night" still determined where their careers would begin.

After nearly five months of training, each remaining trainee was required to fill out a "preference list" by the end of a certain day, listing their desired field offices.

That evening, each trainee would publicly open an envelope and announce their assigned location in front of the entire class.

Some would find their wishes fulfilled, while others would discover their assigned locations were far from their expectations.

Regardless, each person received a round of applause when announcing their assignment, with loud cheers for those assigned to major cities.

Jack and Reid already knew their assignments, as Rossi had informed them in advance that the BAU was setting up a branch in Los Angeles, with a new team stationed there.

There was no disappointment. Jack didn't have to move, and as a Caltech graduate, Reid was happy to stay in a familiar place.

"Las Vegas!"

When the busty blonde, Jane Banner, announced her assignment on stage, she laughed heartily, clearly pleased with the bustling gambling city.

Other trainees whistled and applauded for her.

Jack and Reid had become quite familiar with her and clapped enthusiastically when she looked their way.

"I think you should try asking her out. After all, Los Angeles isn't far from Vegas. It might help you overcome your childhood trauma," Jack teased Reid.

"I'm banned from all casinos in Las Vegas, so it's unlikely I'll go there."

Reid seemed proud of this fact.

"Is this the treatment for super mathematicians?"

Jack had heard that math experts were adept at calculating odds, and all casino games involved probabilities.

"Too bad. I thought she was your type."

"I look for a partner who matches me mentally and intellectually," Reid replied earnestly.

"You should know that with your IQ, there might be fewer than ten thousand people worldwide who can match you," Jack said incredulously.

Reid nodded seriously again.

"Good luck," Jack sincerely wished him.

With "Assignment Night" over, the trainees had only a few days left at the academy.

Finally, the last day arrived. Both men donned formal attire, attended the graduation ceremony, received their diplomas and shiny badges, and Reid officially became an FBI agent by meeting the same standards as everyone else.

After the ceremony, they went to the armory to collect their FBI-issued Glock 22s and met with Rossi, who had been waiting.

According to Rossi's arrangement, Jack had a month to handle personal matters or take a well-deserved break.
