Qin Jiran wanted Su Yanyi to leave, but Su Yanyi clearly had no intention of doing so, which left Qin Jiran frozen in his tracks. In the end, he hurriedly put on his shirt with his back to Su Yanyi before turning around somewhat uneasily and said, "Shall we go for lunch now?"
"Mhm." Su Yanyi didn't say much, turned around, and left. Yet, in a place Qin Jiran couldn't see, a hint of disappointment flashed across Su Yanyi's eyes.
She hadn't expected Qin Jiran to have such a great figure, but the man's reaction was just too quick. She barely caught a glimpse before she couldn't see anymore. And then he pettily turned his back to dress, acting all prissy as if he was a woman. Was he afraid she would take advantage of him?
The two of them walked one after the other toward the parking lot. Along the way, countless people greeted them, with curious gazes all around. Various speculations and comments also arose behind them.
Both Qin Jiran and Su Yanyi had icy demeanors, displaying no expression as they allowed the public to gaze and gossip, but the two were in completely different moods.
Su Yanyi didn't care at all—whether those gazes were out of curiosity or jealousy, kindness or malice meant nothing to her. As for the reactions and consequences her actions might cause, she was well aware, but similarly, she didn't care much.
Although Qin Jiran had long been used to such attention, this time he felt a bit conflicted. He could easily imagine the chain reaction this event would cause—the conjectures about his and Su Yanyi's relationship, both kind and malicious rumors, and possibly, someone connecting his declaration of true love to Su Yanyi. The potential consequences of these things made it impossible for Qin Jiran to ignore!
Qin Jiran sneaked glances at Su Yanyi, constantly guessing her thoughts. Su Yanyi's odd behavior these past few days was truly baffling to him, and he simply couldn't fathom her purpose or how he should cooperate with her!
In Qin Jiran's heart, Su Yanyi's actions clearly had a purpose, and he would never believe it was solely for his benefit. Regardless of Su Yanyi's intentions, this incidental warmth was something he cherished immensely.
The restaurant where they were going to have lunch wasn't too far from the company. It was a century-old establishment specializing in Cantonese cuisine. They reserved a small private room, and on their way from the parking lot to the room, they saw at least four or five familiar faces. The restaurant was known for its privacy and was a favorite among insiders, especially Splendid's staff. Fortunately, it wasn't quite mealtime yet, so the crowd was sparse and those who recognized them didn't dare to approach.
After ordering, Qin Jiran personally poured a cup of tea for Su Yanyi, and neither of them initiated conversation. Eventually, Qin Jiran attempted to communicate with Su Yanyi first.
"Is there something you'd like me to do? Just tell me, and I'll cooperate," Qin Jiran had concluded that Su Yanyi must have needed him for something to behave in such a way. It reminded him of three years ago when she suddenly summoned him to her office, leading to their contractual marriage.
Su Yanyi was savoring her tea when Qin Jiran's words clearly took her by surprise. She gave him a peculiar look and then spoke faintly, "What do you think I want you to do? And what exactly do you want to cooperate with?"
Qin Jiran was rendered speechless by the question. How was he supposed to know what she wanted him to do? If he did know, he wouldn't have asked and would have taken the initiative already!
"I can't possibly guess, otherwise I wouldn't have asked you." Qin Jiran spoke with a tone of sheer helplessness. If he could ascertain Su Yanyi's thoughts, he wouldn't be struggling with unrequited love, spending three years without any progress, only to be increasingly dismissed by Su Yanyi.
