The week went by normally. Nothing relevant happened after the anonymous call. So, Yue Tian decided to treat it as a prank played by a couple of teenagers. He used to do that too when he was one, so there was no cause for alarm.
By Friday, Yue Tian had completed his share of work over the new product, San Shui. He was free and only had some very basic, everyday things to do.
He got off work early on Saturday. Chen Xiaoping had agreed to the date. She said she'd drop her daughter off at a friend's place. Yue Tian was not a hater of children, but he didn't really care about them. Especially, Chen Xiaoping's annoying little brat. He had no fondness of her whatsoever, but he was willing to date her mother if she agreed.
He hailed a taxi to his house. When he got to his house, he started preparing for the date. It was a good thing he wasn't new to women, otherwise he'd probably be going through YouTube, watching videos on how to look good for a date.
He decided to cook himself to show his sincerity. He wasn't a bad cook and he didn't think Chen Xiaoping would be picky. So he made a bowl of chicken and dumpling ball soup, an oven-grilled crab and a chicken and broccoli stir fry dish. Three dishes in total. Pretty basic, almost Westernized Chinese dishes.
He set them at the table and changed out of his apron. He pulled out a bottle of red wine from the fridge and poured them into wine glasses.
The doorbell rang at that moment and he quickly ran his fingers through his hair. He walked to his door and opened it.
Chen Xiaoping stood outside. She was wearing a light yellow dress with black high heels. The dress was short and the skirt was free. In her hands were a black purse and she had styled her black hair. Although she had no makeup on, her face was fair and pretty, her lips a bright red. She was stunning.
Yue Tian blinked. He had never seen this version of Chen Xiaoping before.
"Aren't you going to let me in?" Chen Xiaoping asked as she looked at the Yue Tian who was staring at her like an idiot.
Her voice drew him out of the trance.
"Please, come in." He moved aside.
She walked in, looking around.
"You have a nice place." She said. She wasn't kidding. Compared to her apartment, Yue Tian's apartment had been tastefully furnished. It seemed he made quite the buck at his workplace.
"Don't flatter me." He said and took her hand. He led her to the table he had set. "Please, sit down." He gestured for her to sit.
She sat and they started eating.
"So, talk to me. Tell me about yourself." Yue Tian spoke up first.
"There isn't much to me. I'm from around." She said with her head lowered. Yue Tian chuckled.
"I guess I'm also from around." He said and she laughed at it.
"Miss Chen, I would love it if you open up to me. I don't like living in the dark." Yue Tian said straightforwardly and stared straight into Chen Xiaoping's face.
She hesitated.
"As you know, we only have tonight at your expense. You have a daughter and I won't always be free." He said.
Chen Xiaoping sighed.
"I'm Chen Xiaoping. You can call me Pingping. I'm from the Chen family in Country Yan. I studied broadcasting while taking care of my daughter in Country Yan. I don't know how I managed to do it, but I do know I did it." She said giving a short description of herself.
With those few words, Yue Tian had gotten a glimpse into her life. It wasn't like he could know very family out there, but some families were extremely large. The Chen family from Country Yan were extremely large, powerful and rich. Even the Li family here had to address them with respect.
Could Chen Xiaoping be the daughter of the family? No, it couldn't be. If she was, everyone would know she had a child. She was either from a branch family of the Chen family or she just had the surname Chen.
The way she spoke and acted though spoke otherwise. And he couldn't help but give it a second thought.
"Are you talking about the largest family in Country Yan?" He knew it would be impolite to ask, but he still went ahead and asked.
"Yes. Are there two Chen families in Country Yan?" She asked matter-of-factly.
"I guess not." He concluded that she was from a branch family.
He took a sip of wine.
"How did Wan'er come about?" He asked.
"A one-night stand." She replied.
"Do you know her father?"
"No, I pray I find him soon. And I hope he's rich. I want him to take custody of Wan'er as I cannot provide for her anymore." She said sadly.
"Everything will be fine. Maybe, I could lend you some money." He suggested.
"No. I don't want to owe you any favours." She said waving her hand.
"No. It's fine. I'm not giving the money to you, I'm lending it to you. So, once you pay back, you owe me nothing." He said.
She thought about it.
"How much are you comfortable with?" She asked.
"I can lend at most 30,000." He said and gave a golden smirk. He expected to see a flash if surprise in her eyes but there was nothing. It was as if she was used to seeing that amount of money everyday. He squinted his eyes. Only someone with a rich background would act as such. It seemed Chen Xiaoping wasn't so simple. He may have been assuming wrong the entire time.
"Okay. I will borrow the money from you." She said, laying emphasis on 'borrow'.
The food had been cleaned out by now. They were slowly sipping wine.
"Give me a moment. Let me clean up." He said and stood up. He cleared the table and put the dishes in the dishwasher. He returned to the table and he and Chen Xiaoping continued talking.
"So...what's been keeping you out so late over the past few weeks?" Chen Xiaoping asked this time.
"A lot. There's a lot going on lately." He replied.
"You remind me of my first boyfriend. He was like you. Funny and weird." Chen Xiaoping said.
"Hmm. Then I must be your type then." He said and she laughed.
"Barely. We broke up two weeks after." She said simply.
"Then you both weren't ready for it." He said and winked.
"What about you? How was your love life?" Chen Xiaoping asked.
"It was pretty smooth. I'd date someone for sometime, we'd realize we're not compatible, we'd make a clean break. No strings attached." He said.
"So, was that your plan with me as well?"
"No, not really. But not very different either."
"So you don't want a long-term relationship?"
"I don't THINK of a long-term relationship." He replied.
"Then I guess we're compatible. It's no strings attached." She said and smirked. "Are you abstinent?"
"I'm a virgin." He said plainly.
"How long do you want it to be that way?"
"I have nothing in mind. If you want, you can change it tonight." Yue Tian said, his facial expression saying different things from his racing heart.
"You got speakers, right? Stand up." She said and picked up her phone. In less than thirty seconds, an automated voice sounded. 'Connected' the voice said.
Yue Tian stood up. Chen Xiaoping also stood up. She walked towards him. She had played on some slow Mexican music. She danced around him slowly.
Soon when the song started getting fast paced, she started twirling really fast and her skirt flew up, revealing her black underwear. He gulped. He hadn't seen much below skirts because his past girlfriends were all either aloof, abstinent or religious. Chen Xiaoping was giving him something new. She kept spinning fast until the music came to a sharp slow and she leaned in on him.
"Aren't you getting into the spirit of the song? Come on, let's dance, let's dance." She said slightly breathless.
She pulled his hands and made him follow her movements. He was inexperienced and made many mistakes. But when he saw how well Chen Xiaoping danced, he knew it wasn't just talent. That had taken lots of practice. She seemed very familiar with the song as she stopped at very sharp halts alongside the song.
They danced for a long time before the song ended. He took in heavy breaths and she too but steadily.
"When everything is shitty and I don't have anything or anyone and my daughter disrespects me, I dance. I dance because it's the only time I feel free." She said and turned around to bring her face to his.
"Currently, I feel as free as a bird." She said and smashed her lips onto his.
He immediately understood and replicated, leading her to his room.
The deed was completed that night and the following morning Yue Tian walked out of his house without the title of virgin on his forehead.
