(Another arc over on Patreon, so gimme powerstones on that note)
"The previous one was Itachi Uchiha. I don't remember the exact details, but he reached S-rank at 13 years of age."
"Sasuke's brother, huh? No wonder he trains so hard," Ino commented.
"The kin-slayer," Choji also spoke a few words.
"Yeah, he was the record holder for the youngest to reach such high combat prowess until a year ago."
"Is it Sora? The newest record holder?" Ino asked.
"Yeah, his combat prowess borders on Elite Jounin, and he achieved it before he even turned 7." This didn't really shock anyone in the room, but hearing it confirmed was still something.
"Damn, I don't really feel anything," Ino said with a blank face.
She wasn't sure what to feel anymore.
"Well, young prodigies like that generally develop a lot of mental issues. Kakashi himself could be considered 'eccentric,' but he was already like that in his teenage years. And about Itachi..." Shikamaru didn't comment further.
They didn't need to hear more to confirm the sanity of the Clan Slayer.
'Then again, I wonder whether he went insane or if it was something else...' Shikamaru wondered internally but didn't dare to say aloud.
Saying such things out loud is the quickest way to find oneself in the Pure Lands 'accidentally.'
"That really isn't comforting. I can't imagine Sora going insane with his personality," Choji said, without eating anything at the moment.
Yeah, that sight was actually possible, albeit rare.
You couldn't even find him without a chip packet, even when he's sleeping.
"Ahh..."
"I wonder about that," Shikamaru didn't comment further, and they exchanged glances with each other.
***
"Finally, we're off that ship!" Ino stretched and happily said out loud.
"You're making it sound like it was a terrible experience or something," Kakashi said, with his trademark book in hand.
Maybe he would find a fellow smut reader in the Hidden Mist.
Okay, that definitely wasn't the reason he came here.
"You're one to talk. You just lazed around like we were on vacation or something," Ino pointed her finger at him.
Sasuke was feeling déjà vu for some reason.
Is his MS acting up again or something?
"Well, I *am* officially on vacation, you know," Kakashi winked at her.
"Ahh..." Ino was speechless at the man's excuse.
"Well, you guys will lose your vacation mood soon. Let's meet up with my acquaintance, and we'll start planning the mission," Zabuza said, and they followed him.
***
"So... this is the help you've brought?" the speaker's eyes twitched.
"Were you expecting me to bring a Kage or something?" Zabuza huffed.
"Well, not really..." Everyone sweatdropped.
Did she actually think Kage-level ninjas were like cabbages sold freely?
Talk about ridiculous.
"Still, I can see why you'd bring the Copy-ninja, but... why are there kids with him?" Mei's eyes twitched.
"Also, one who seems like they haven't even gone to the academy yet."
"Hey now, I'm a chunin," Sora, tired from his intense training last week, was emotionally drained and fell for the bait.
"Did you not tell these kids what the mission is?" She looked at Kakashi, who just shrugged.
"You can tell them now," his nonchalant attitude irked Ao, but being the older one, he controlled his emotions.
"Well, we're gonna kill the Fourth Mizukage." She saw the kids, and absurdly, no one was surprised.
Well, Ino-Shika-Cho had already seen the most absurd things. Killing a Kage didn't sound shocking.
Sasuke didn't really care about killing a Kage—he had to kill Itachi, so this might give him real experience of the gap between A-rank and S-rank.
Sora, well... he had actually fought a Kage, albeit not at their peak, but still had, so he wasn't really scared.
"So, you're gonna form an alliance with Konoha if we successfully kill him?" Shikamaru looked at Mei.
"You guys are taking this well. Yeah, we would, if you're actually useful. Well, Kakashi and Uchiha will join me, Mangetsu, and Zabuza in the fight. You guys will coordinate to take out the Anbu and others under him, I guess," Mei sighed.
"Kakashi-sensei, I also want to take part in the battle with the Kage. I always wanted to be part of a coup," Sora looked at Kakashi.
"Kid, are you serious?" Mei crouched so she was face-to-face with Sora.
"Do you know what Kage-level means?" She put her finger on Sora's forehead, the latter unfazed.
Mei released her killing intent, making everyone in the room tense, ready for battle if they could move.
"I could kill you anytime now. Are you not afraid of dying?" Mei was surprised that Sora didn't have any instinctual reaction and had two fingers pointed at her head.
"I am actually afraid of dying, but not at the moment," Sora said with an expression that showed he was bored.
"Oh, why not?"
"Because I would be able to kill you before you kill me," his response surprised everyone in the room except Kakashi, Sasuke, and Zabuza.
Mei whistled, "You do know I can perform seal-less jutsu?"
"What a coincidence. I can also perform seal-less jutsu," Sora smirked.
"Oh, do you have confidence that you can defeat me?" Mei smiled.
"Well, in a normal fight, no, but I have the confidence to kill you in this position if you initiate the attack. Shall we test my claim?" Sora made most of his chakra rush to his right hand.
"Maa, maa, how about we not do that?" Kakashi now had his hand on Mei's shoulder.
Anbu surrounded the nonchalant Kakashi, their jutsu ready to be unleashed, as they hadn't detected his move.
Sasuke's sword was almost clashing with Zabuza's.
Ino-Shika-Cho and Haku were the only ones not moving due to Mei's killing intent.
Ao had opened his Byakugan and was ready to attack Kakashi.
Kakashi's nonchalant attitude, outnumbered by Anbu and an S-rank ninja, was giving Ao a bad feeling.
"Hahaha, Konoha really has a way of producing monsters," Mei stood up as Sora dissipated the chakra he was building.
She looked at Kakashi, who was still reading his book without looking up.
"It seems we might actually win," Mei smirked.
***
"So, what are we supposed to do again?" Ino's eyes twitched.
She had seen this coming when the mission was announced.
"To protect the civilians from the bloodline faction," Haku said.
Ino sighed.
"Focus, guys, we have an important job to do," Shikamaru reminded them—no, her.
"Hai hai," Ino whined.
***
"So, are we directly gonna attack the Mizukage Tower, or whatever you call it?" Sora asked.
"I don't think we should—"
"I like the way you think," Mei smirked.
Mangetsu looked at her in confusion, "Hmm, won't that be hard with Anbu and all?"
"You're gonna deal with them," her words made Mangetsu's eyes twitch.
"I'm not even gonna ask why a kid is present," Mangetsu sighed.
"Is my age really off-putting? I mean, I like that people underestimate me, but isn't it too much?"
"Well, it's not rare to see kids your age become ninjas... actually, it is less common," Mangetsu corrected himself while sighing.
"Oh, so why?"
"Well, it's rare to see a kid participate in killing a Kage," he deadpanned.
"Well, it's not my first time fighting a Kage," Sora smirked.
"Wait, what do you mean?" Everyone from the Mist was shocked.
"It's why I was directly promoted to Chunin."
If they were confused before, now they were dumbfounded.
Has Konoha's Chunin exams changed? For direct promotion without going through the exams, do they have to defeat a Kage?
"Hmm, I want the list of Konoha ninjas who were directly promoted without taking the Chunin exams," Mei told the Anbu who were on their side.
She suspiciously looked at Kakashi. From what she could remember, he was promoted through the Chunin exams... or was he? Maybe this policy was recently created.
Who knows how many Elite Jounin Konoha is hiding with this method?
It seems the next Great Ninja War might be similar to the Second War.
Kakashi deadpanned.
"Wait, who did you fight?" Mangetsu asked.
"I—" "Idiot, you're not supposed to tell mission details to others," Sasuke bonked Sora.
"I was going to say that I'm not supposed to give out mission details," Sora protested.
He was wrongly hit.
"This is definitely child abuse," he pointed at Sasuke.
He was going to court for this.
"You're an official ninja; normal laws don't apply to you."
"What? This is such an injustice... wait, would stealing money from others be against the law? From civilians? It's fine as long as I don't get caught, right?" Sora said, realizing, and made a mental note to check the ninja laws for loopholes.
Sasuke was speechless at this.
Now, he couldn't really reprimand Sora, as he hadn't faced any money problems himself.
So, he glanced at Kakashi for help.
Kakashi sighed.
"It's fine as long as you don't get caught."
Everyone in the room looked at the man in question.
Something is definitely wrong in Konoha.

"Hmm, I don't really want to ask if something is wrong with Konoha, as that would be hypocritical coming from our village of all places," Mangetsu sighed.
He had been sighing too much since he entered this room.
"So, what are your goals, Nee-chan?" Sora looked at Mei.
"Well, I want to marry a strong, handsome man," Mei said.
"Hmm, I meant your goal in terms of what you want from the village," Sora deadpanned.
"Well, I guess Kakashi-sensei is good-looking under his mask, and I suppose he's strong," Sora glanced at Kakashi.
"Wait, you know what he looks like under the mask?" Sasuke stared at Sora in shock.
Kakashi's face was one of the biggest mysteries in all of Konoha.
Very few had seen it.
Nobody who had seen it was alive—well, except for Sora.
"Yeah, I somehow stumbled upon it accidentally, I guess," Sora rubbed his head.
"Is he really as handsome as you claim?" Mei placed both hands on Sora's shoulders and shook him.
"Yeah, I haven't seen anyone prettier than him. Maybe Sasuke when he grows up, but I guess that would be personal preference."
Mei stopped shaking him and looked at Kakashi with a glint Kakashi didn't like.
He was reminded of Guy, but instead of asking for challenges, it seemed he now had to reject people multiple times.
"Say, will you—"
"No," Kakashi replied simply.
"I'll keep haunting you until you say yes."
"No, I'll convince you that I'm not ideal husband material," Kakashi decided it was time to nip this in the bud before it grew into a giant tree.
"Oh, please?"
"I love annoying people."
"I like playing mind games, so I'm in."
"I like reading porn in public."
"I don't mind doing it in public," Sasuke had already covered Sora's ears, stood in front of him, and used chakra to prevent Sora from hearing, lip-reading, or somehow using chakra to eavesdrop.
"I wanted to hear what she was going to say."
"Don't mind them. They're just a bunch of perverts," Sasuke ignored the back-and-forth conversation.
After a few minutes...
Kakashi seemed annoyed.
Mei wore a smirk.
The former was glaring at Sora.
Kakashi was regretting his life choices.
"Hmm, I don't know what you guys talked about, but, Nee-chan, would you become the Hok—Mizukage after the current one dies?" Sora was also annoyed that he had missed something interesting while they were talking.
He was really curious why everyone in the room, except for those two, seemed to be blushing.
Even Sasuke had a red tint.
What did they hear?
"Yeah, probably. Do you want to become the Mizukage?" Mei looked at Mangetsu.
"No."
"Then it seems I'll become the Mizukage."
"Why did nobody ask me?" Zabuza protested.
How childish of him.
"Shut up, or I'll kill you." Mei's glare shut Zabuza up.
The latter's mouth twitched.
"Hmm, then I don't think you guys would be able to become a couple," Sora commented.
"Why?" Kakashi looked at Sora expectantly.
"Well, because Kakashi-sensei is most likely going to become the next Hokage, so I don't think marriage between two Kages is possible politically." Sora's words made everyone pause in the room.
They weren't really surprised about Kakashi becoming the next Hokage, as he was a famous ninja worldwide.
After all, he was the unofficial ambassador of *Icha-Icha*.
The first female Kage the world had seen was Tsunade, who became Kage three months ago.
So, nobody had really considered the possibility of two Kages marrying.
'It seems I have to become Hokage. It will also free me from Guy—two birds with one kunai,' Kakashi internally praised Sora.
It seemed that red-haired menace still cared about him.
"But, maybe you guys would be the first."
Or not, Kakashi cursed Sora in his heart.
Mei smiled at Sora.
It seemed the red-haired kid was rational after all.
"So, are we gonna make our move tonight?" Sasuke changed the topic.
As much as he liked seeing Kakashi suffer, he didn't want to hear any more of the conversation between the two.
It was a good thing he hadn't been facing them while they were talking, or else he would've remembered the whole conversation due to his Sharingan.
But even without that, it seemed it would be hard for anyone in the room who had heard it to forget this conversation.
"Yeah, tonight we're going to usurp power," Mei declared.
"Tell me honestly, you always wanted to say that, right?" Kakashi deadpanned.
"Maybe~. Are you interested in knowing more about me?" Mei winked at him.
"No, I'm good," Kakashi took some steps back as Mei took some steps forward.
"Are you guys going to play chase or something?" Sora looked at them as if he was watching children playing.
That was quite ironic in this case.
However, with great power comes great shamelessness.
The two didn't even bat an eye.
"Anyway, if we're helping you guys kill your Kage, why don't you lend us your legendary swords to fight that guy?" Sasuke suggested.
The people of the Mist present in the room looked at each other uncertainly.
Mangetsu and Mei looked at Zabuza.
The latter nodded.
"Fine, we don't have all of them, but you guys can choose. Here," Mangetsu revealed a scroll, and four swords emerged from it.
"Hmm, mister, why are you carrying four of these?" Sora looked suspiciously at Mangetsu, then glanced at Zabuza's sword.
"Well, I know how to use all seven swords, and I'm sort of safeguarding them until I find worthy users."
"Hmm, I see."
It seemed Chojuro hadn't gotten Hiramekarei yet.
Or maybe, due to the upcoming rebellion, it had been taken from him so that if he fell, nobody from the opposition could take it.
"I want this one," Sora immediately said while placing his hands on one.
Kakashi had also approached the swords and crouched.
"First of all, you're not a swordsman, so no." Kakashi grabbed Sora's hand.
He was afraid that Sora might steal the sword.
He could end up leading everyone in Kiri—Mizukage faction or rebellion faction, both—to hunt them down.
Even though that sounded kind of fun to Kakashi, he didn't really want to test it.
He might have done it if he was only with Sasuke and Sora.
But unfortunately, Ino-Shika-Cho were with them too.
"But I could still use it somehow. I'll let my shadow clone use it."
"No. We're going to fight an S-rank. Your shadow clone, wielding a sword he can't properly use, would just be a burden. The sword will fall into the wrong hands."
"But, uhhh, this sword... it's like calling to me."
"Can you even lift the sword?" Kakashi deadpanned at Sora, who tried to lift the sword but couldn't.
"Look, I can!" Sora said while finally lifting the sword.
"No, your chakra enhancement isn't refined enough to avoid wasting chakra." Kakashi took the sword away from Sora, who looked like he might cry any second.
The people present sweat-dropped at that.
However, Kakashi remained undisturbed. He was the kind of guy who enjoyed stealing candy from babies.
So, this was nothing.
"Which sword is this?" Sasuke asked Mangetsu.
He hadn't seen the pictures of each sword, so he didn't know which one it was.
"It's Shibuki."
"Oh, that makes sense," Sasuke muttered to himself.
He could already imagine Konoha being terrorized by a red-haired person using explosions everywhere and talking about art.
'Wait, why would Sora say something about art?' Sasuke questioned himself.
"It does?" Mangetsu looked at Sasuke in confusion.
"It's better if you don't know, but if you're unlucky, time will make you find out."
"That sounds morbid for some reason," Mangetsu said, still looking confused.
"Hmm, which one is Kiba?"
"We don't have that one currently. One of our rogues has it."
"Tch, such a waste," Sasuke muttered as he looked at all the swords and picked up Hiramekarei.
"This should be able to change shapes, right?"
"Yeah, it seems you really are knowledgeable about our swords."
"Recently got into swordsmanship, so yeah. Which one are you choosing, Kakashi?"
"I'm going to take Nuibari. It should be able to conduct electricity and block the tailed beast's chakra that the Mizukage might use." Kakashi handed Shibuki back to Mangetsu, who was having a hard time deciding whether to give that sword to Sora, who was now using his lethal Puppy Eye Jutsu.
"Wait, the Mizukage is a Jinchuriki?" Sora stopped using the forbidden jutsu, which had been created by the Yondaime.
Mangetsu sighed in relief.
That genjutsu seemed strangely effective against him for some reason.
"Yeah, we're up against a Jinchuriki. You do know what a Jinchuriki is, right?"
"Yeah, obviously I know. I'm a seal master, duh."
"Wait, what?" Everyone in the room from the Mist was shocked.
