Chapitre 23: Chapter 23: Shadows Of The Past

As they stood there, wrapped in each other's arms, Ivy felt a renewed sense of determination. She wasn't alone in this fight. With Anthony and their friends by her side, she knew they would find her mother and bring her back safely. Together, they would overcome any obstacles that lay ahead.

After a moment, they broke the embrace and continued their walk through the garden, the conversation shifting to lighter topics. They talked about their plans, their hopes for the future, and the small joys that had kept them going through the tough times.

Eventually, they found a bench under an old oak tree and sat down, enjoying the tranquility of the moment. The garden, with its overgrown beauty and the soft rustling of leaves, felt like a refuge from the chaos of their lives.

"Ivy," Anthony began after a while, "you mentioned your mother left when you were 16. Have you ever had any clues or hints about where she might have gone or why she left?"

Ivy shook her head, her expression pensive. "No real clues. She just... disappeared one day. No note, no explanation. I've spent years wondering why. Was it something I did? Was she in danger? It's like a part of my life just vanished."

Anthony frowned, deep in thought. "Maybe there's more to it. We have resources now, and we can start looking into her disappearance. If she left to protect you or if there was something else at play, we'll find out."

Ivy nodded slowly, a spark of hope igniting in her eyes. "You're right. We have to try. Maybe... maybe we can finally get some answers."

Anthony smiled reassuringly. "We'll start looking into it as soon as we can. For now, let's enjoy this moment and gather our strength for what's to come."

Ivy leaned back on the bench, letting the peacefulness of the garden wash over her. "Thank you, Anthony. For everything. I don't know what I'd do without you."

Anthony reached over and squeezed her hand. "You don't have to thank me, Ivy. We're in this together. And we'll see it through, no matter what."

As they sat there, hand in hand, Ivy felt a sense of calm she hadn't experienced in a long time. The future was uncertain, but she knew she could face it with Anthony and their friends by her side. And together, they would find her mother and uncover the truths that had eluded her for so long.

It was a typical day in the training hall of their stronghold, bustling with activity as everyone prepared for the challenges ahead. Lila, their seasoned trainer, moved among them with a watchful eye, ensuring each member of their group honed their skills to perfection.

Ivy and Anthony sparred fiercely, their movements fluid and synchronized. They knew each other's techniques well, anticipating every feint and strike. Their combat was not just about physical prowess but also trust and coordination, a testament to their bond forged through adversity.

Across the hall, Maddie and Jax engaged in their own training session. Maddie's agility and precision complemented Jax's strength and tactical acumen. Together, they embodied a formidable duo, ready to face any threat that came their way.

Meanwhile, Elliot and Jasmin practiced hand-to-hand combat techniques, their styles contrasting yet complementary. Elliot favored quick, decisive strikes, while Jasmin relied on flexibility and adaptability. Their partnership exemplified versatility, essential in their line of work.

Marie sat off to the side, a thoughtful expression on her face as she watched others train. She missed her friend Jasmine, their moments together, wishing for her friend's presence in the midst of the intense training environment.

Stephen, usually a quiet presence, seemed more withdrawn than usual. His solitude was palpable, a stark contrast to his usual camaraderie with the group. There was an air of mystery surrounding him, a sense that something weighed heavily on his mind.

Khalid and Viktor observed the training sessions from a vantage point, their leadership evident in the way they assessed each member's performance. They exchanged occasional nods of approval or whispered discussions, strategizing silently about their next moves and the challenges ahead.

Adrian barged into Damon's chamber, his face flushed with anger and determination. "Damon, release my mother," he demanded, his voice echoing off the walls.

Damon leaned back in his chair, a cruel smile playing on his lips. "Listen, son, your mother has been lying to you."

Adrian's eyes narrowed. "What are you talking about?"

"She cheated on me a long time ago with another man and birthed a son," Damon said coldly. "Haven't you ever wondered why I despise her so much?"

Adrian's mind raced as he processed Damon's words. "Don't tell me that son is Anthony."

Damon's smile widened. "Yes, he is. That's why she helped him. Your mother has been protecting him all along."

Adrian felt a surge of emotions: shock, betrayal, confusion. It was as if his entire world had been turned upside down. "So, all this time, she's been keeping this secret from me?"

"Yes," Damon replied, his voice dripping with satisfaction. "She thought she could hide the truth forever, but secrets have a way of coming out."

Adrian clenched his fists, trying to steady his thoughts. "What are you planning to do with her?"

Damon's eyes gleamed with malice. "She will pay for her betrayal. And as for Anthony... well, we'll see how long he can stay hidden."

Adrian's heart pounded in his chest. He knew he had to act quickly. "I'm not going to let you hurt her," he said, his voice firm.

Damon chuckled. "Oh, Adrian, you still have so much to learn. Family ties can be a dangerous thing."

Adrian stormed out of Damon's chamber, his mind a whirlwind of emotions. He knew he needed answers, and the first person he thought of was Maxwell. If anyone would know the truth about his mother's past and Damon's claims, it would be him.

He found Maxwell in his quarters, meticulously reviewing some documents. Maxwell looked up as Adrian burst in, his face a mask of barely contained fury.

"Adrian, what is it?" Maxwell asked, his tone cautious.

"Why didn't you tell me?" Adrian demanded, his voice trembling with a mix of anger and betrayal. "About my mother. About Anthony."

Maxwell's brows furrowed in confusion. "What are you talking about?"

Adrian slammed his fist on the table. "Damon just told me that my mother had an affair and that Anthony is my half-brother. Did you know about this?"

Maxwell's eyes widened feigning Ignorance. "I had no idea, Adrian. This is the first I'm hearing of it."

Adrian studied Maxwell's face, searching for any hint of deception. But all he saw was the same bewilderment and concern that mirrored his own feelings. "You really didn't know?"

Maxwell shook his head. "I swear, Adrian. If I had known, I would have told you. This... this changes everything."

Adrian slumped into a chair, the weight of the revelation pressing down on him. "What do we do now? Damon is planning to hurt her, and Anthony is in danger too, but I don't care about him."

I'm also so mad at my mother for keeping such secrets from me.

Maxwell leaned forward, his voice steady and reassuring. "First, we need to get more information. We can't act blindly. If what Damon says is true, we need to understand the full story. There must be someone who knows more about your mother's past."

Adrian nodded slowly. "You're right. But we have to move quickly. Damon won't wait."

"We will," Maxwell said firmly. We will gather resources and find out the whole truth.

Adrian felt a flicker of hope at Maxwell's words. "Thank you, Maxwell. I... I don't know what I would do without your support."

Maxwell placed a reassuring hand on Adrian's shoulder. "We'll get through this together. Now, let's start by finding someone who can shed light on your mother's past."

Adrian took a deep breath, feeling a renewed sense of determination. They had a daunting task ahead, but with Maxwell by his side, he knew they stood a fighting chance. They would uncover the truth and protect their loved ones, no matter what it took.
