Chapitre 16: 16

Age of Character: 13

Date: 245 BCE

Location: Qin Palace

Days at the Palace

Following the suppression of Cheng Jiao's rebellion, we remained in the Qin Palace for several days. The echoes of our victory reverberated through its halls, but instead of succumbing to the intoxication of triumph, we turned our focus to the future. These days offered a valuable opportunity to strategize and reorganize our roles and responsibilities.

New Ranks

During this time, both Shin and I received promotions. Shin was appointed as the commander of a 100-man unit, marking his first significant step toward becoming a great general. Although he accepted the promotion with his usual nonchalant demeanor, the slight glimmer of pride in his expression was unmistakable.

As for me, I was elevated to the rank of Viscount and entrusted with commanding a 1,000-man military unit. These dual roles brought both significant responsibilities and considerable autonomy. As a viscount, I was granted the authority to build and manage a regional force of 15,000 to 20,000 soldiers, independent of the 1,000-man unit under my official command. The separation of these forces provided a strategic advantage, allowing me to use them for distinct purposes.

Discussion with Sho Bun Kun

One evening, as Sho Bun Kun and I walked along the palace walls, we discussed these new developments. He seemed curious about how I intended to handle the dual responsibilities.

Sho Bun Kun:

"Zhi Yong, as both a viscount and the commander of a 1,000-man unit, you shoulder two distinct responsibilities. How do you plan to balance them? Managing such power is a heavy burden for someone your age."

I responded calmly but with conviction:

"Sho Bun Kun-sama, the separation of these two powers is actually an advantage. The regional army under my authority will focus solely on defense and infrastructure, ensuring stability. Meanwhile, the 1,000-man unit will serve Qin directly, operating as an offensive force for our kingdom's strategic needs."

Sho Bun Kun nodded thoughtfully, a hint of satisfaction in his expression.

"It seems you are well-prepared for this responsibility. But remember, great power always attracts more enemies. Stay vigilant."

A Request for Piao

The following day, I met with Ei Sei atop the palace walls. Sho Bun Kun and Yo Tan Wa accompanied us. During the discussion, I finally voiced a matter that had weighed on my mind:

"Your Majesty, I request that Piao no longer be used as a body double."

Ei Sei pondered my words for a moment before replying with a faint smile:

"Zhi Yong, Piao has fulfilled his duties admirably. You're right; there's no longer a need for him to act as my double. However, I've seen his loyalty as your brother and to Qin. I'd like to reward him as well."

I smiled lightly and added:

"Your Majesty, I believe we should create a distinguishing feature for him. I propose giving him a scar on his nose to reduce his resemblance to you and make him harder to recognize."

Ei Sei considered this briefly, then laughed and agreed:

"Of course, you may proceed. Additionally, I will grant him a new position. Piao will now command a 300-man unit."

This decision surprised and delighted me. Ei Sei's face, however, bore a mischievous grin as he continued:

"This promotion might irritate Shin a little. Piao has now surpassed Shin's rank. Hahaha!"

Yo Tan Wa's Farewell

During this meeting, Yo Tan Wa joined the conversation, expressing her need to return to her people in the Mountain Kingdom.

Yo Tan Wa:

"Zhi Yong, the support we've provided to Qin doesn't end here. However, I cannot neglect my own responsibilities. I must return to protect my people soon."

I responded with gratitude:

"Yo Tan Wa-sama, your support for Qin's future has been invaluable. I hope we'll cross paths again someday."

With her signature confidence, Yo Tan Wa nodded and added:

"I'm sure we will meet again. But when that day comes, perhaps we won't stand as allies but as rivals. Be prepared for that possibility."

Her words lingered as a reminder that alliances and rivalries are often separated by a fine line in the quest for power.

Location: Qin Capital and Zhi Yong's TerritoryDecision to Establish an Intelligence Unit in the Capital

Before leaving the Qin Capital, I made a pivotal decision to gain an upper hand in future battles: establishing an intelligence unit. Wars are not won solely by the strength of armies but also by the power of information. While my knowledge from the Kingdom manga allowed me to predict many events, the manga didn't cover every detail. To uncover the unknown and prepare for unpredictable changes, a professional intelligence unit was indispensable.

To this end, I purchased a group of 100 individuals from a specialized market in the capital. These were no ordinary slaves; they were trained specifically for intelligence gathering and covert operations. The seller described them as:

"These people may appear as ordinary slaves, but they are professional scouts—silent, swift, and lethal. They specialize in gathering information, tracking, and infiltrating enemy lines."

These skilled slaves were incredibly expensive, but I knew the investment would pay off in the long run. After purchasing them, I ensured their loyalty to me alone and laid the foundation for the new unit.

Journey with Shin

After acquiring the spies, I set out for my territory with Shin. Along the way, Shin couldn't help but comment with his usual sarcastic tone:

"Zhi Yong, you're truly a strange one. You have soldiers, an elite unit, and even earned the trust of the mountain people. Now you're turning slaves into spies? I can't wait to see what you'll do next."

Laughing, I replied:

"Shin, wars aren't won with swords alone. Knowledge is everything. If you know your enemy, you can anticipate their moves and gain an edge on the battlefield. These slaves will prove their worth in places where swords can't speak."

Shin shrugged and grinned as he responded:

"Alright, Zhi Yong. Your plans always seem complicated to me, but they somehow work out. Let's see if these spies are as useful as you say."

Return to the Territory and Piao's Recovery

After a week-long journey, we arrived in my territory. At the castle gates, Piao was there to greet us, almost fully recovered from his injuries. Although he was still getting used to the scar on his face, he carried himself with strength and resilience.

As I approached, I noticed a smile on Piao's face. However, I spoke seriously this time:

"Piao, we're back at the castle. We have some important news to discuss. Sit down and listen."

As usual, Shin interjected with his humor, turning to Piao:

"Hey Piao! Did you hear? Zhi Yong bought 100 slave spies in the capital. What do you think he's planning to do with them?"

Instead of laughing, Piao looked at me with concern and asked:

"Zhi Yong, did you really do that? Was it wise to spend so much money on slaves?"

I calmly explained:

"Piao, these are no ordinary slaves. They're experts in gathering intelligence. My knowledge from the manga is valuable but not sufficient. The future can change, and we must be prepared for those changes."

Piao thought for a moment before nodding slightly in agreement:

"If these spies are as skilled as you say, they could make a significant difference."

Organizing the Intelligence Unit

Establishing the intelligence unit wasn't just about acquiring people; it required organization and management to function effectively. I divided the spies into specialized groups, assigning each group distinct responsibilities:

Internal Watchers:

Tasked with monitoring my territory and the castle to detect potential traitors or spies.

External Scouts:

Responsible for observing surrounding regions, tracking bandits, rebels, and enemy movements.

Battlefield Analysts:

Assigned to analyze enemy strategies in upcoming battles.

Infiltration Experts:

Specialized in penetrating enemy lines to gather critical intelligence.

Each group was led by a designated leader who reported directly to me. I also ensured the unit had the resources needed to operate efficiently.

Planning with Shin and Piao

As I worked on setting up the intelligence unit, I discussed our future plans with Shin and Piao. Shin remained skeptical:

"Zhi Yong, if these spies aren't as smart as you, all that money will go to waste. We should stick to what we know and rely on our strength in battles."

Piao, however, turned to Shin and countered:

"Shin, no matter how strong we are, if we can't predict the enemy's moves, we'll lose. Zhi Yong's plan will give us the upper hand in any conflict."

Shin shrugged and laughed:

"Fine, do what you want. But if these people don't turn out to be as good as Zhi Yong says, I'll be the one kicking them out!"

Location: Qin Capital and Zhi Yong's TerritoryReflections in the Lord's Chamber

While alone in my chamber, my mind was constantly occupied. Only three months remained until the Keiyou Campaign Arc would begin. I knew this critical battle would take place in the Dakan Plains and would be pivotal for Qin's future. However, the knowledge I had from the manga was not always enough to achieve guaranteed results. That's why I needed to maximize my current strength and resources.

Organization and Duties of the Intelligence Unit

After organizing the intelligence unit, I immediately assigned them tasks. I established a new system and instructed them to analyze every region thoroughly. Their reports would cover various topics such as the mountain people, bandit groups, border movements of neighboring states, trade routes, and natural resources. To test their abilities, I started with minor missions and gradually transitioned them to more critical intelligence-gathering operations.

The division of tasks was as follows:

Regional Analysis:

Monitoring the condition of nearby villages, understanding the needs of the people, and identifying potential rebellion or bandit threats.

External Security:

Continuous observation of movements along the Chu and Han borders.

Battlefield Reconnaissance:

Mapping the Dakan Plains and identifying topographic advantages for future battles.

The information provided by this organization formed a crucial foundation for my future strategies.

Fortress Enhancement Plan

As a Viscount, I now had greater authority to take bold steps regarding regional administration. My first major decision was to expand the fortress. While it could currently accommodate 10,000 soldiers, my goal was to increase this capacity to 20,000. I devised a multi-phase plan to achieve this:

Architectural Development:

I negotiated with blacksmiths to strengthen the fortress walls. Expert stonemasons from Chu were brought in to widen the stone walls and establish a more robust defense line.I planned to expand housing within the fortress to accommodate more soldiers and civilians.

Defense Structures:

Constructing archer towers, catapults, and hot oil deployment mechanisms.Reinforcing the city gates with iron supports and double-layered doors for increased resilience against attacks.

Resource Management:

I negotiated new trade agreements with local farmers to increase food and water supplies for the growing army.A water tunnel was planned to transport water from a nearby river directly to the fortress.New Military Units and Training

The number of soldiers stationed at the fortress had reached 10,000, but I wanted my army to excel not just in quantity but also in quality. To this end, I established a new elite unit of 1,100 soldiers. Their assignments were distributed as follows:

700 soldiers were added to my 1,000-man army, forming the primary assault force on the battlefield.300 soldiers were assigned to Piao's command. As a commander of 300 soldiers, this elite unit significantly bolstered his strength.100 soldiers were entrusted to Shin. As the commander of a 100-man unit, Shin would personally train and lead these soldiers.

The training program, led by Shin and Piao, was designed to prepare the units for the toughest battles:

Physical Training: 10 km daily runs, 200 push-ups, 200 sit-ups, and weight carrying.Weapon Mastery: Advanced training in swords, spears, and archery.Team Tactics: Coordinated group maneuvers, defense strategies against enemy encirclement, and attack formations.Guerrilla Warfare: Agile and swift attacks in forested areas for guerrilla combat scenarios.New Trade Initiatives

To strengthen the region's economy, I established new trade routes. Agreements with merchants along the Chu border ensured a steady supply of food, weapons, and other essential materials for the fortress. I also supported local farmers to increase agricultural production.

These measures made the fortress not only militarily strong but also economically self-sufficient. A powerful army and a stable economy laid the groundwork for future wars.

Preparations for the Future

I instructed Shin and Piao to maintain rigorous training for the next three months without any leniency. I kept the details of the Keiyou Campaign to myself, revealing nothing to them. However, I made it clear that they needed to be ready for battle at any moment.

To Shin, I said:

"Shin, as a warrior-general, you must always be prepared on the battlefield. Strength, speed, and leadership… you already possess these traits. But we need even more. At any moment, we could find ourselves in the midst of a major war."

To Piao, I said:

"Piao, you are now the commander of 300 soldiers. These people trust you. It is your responsibility to protect and lead them. You must work harder."

Both of them took my instructions seriously. They were my brothers, but more importantly, they were two key leaders who carried Qin's future on their shoulders.

Preparation for the Keiyou Campaign

Three months had passed. At last, the Keiyou Campaign had begun, and preparations for war were rapidly advancing. I found myself in the strategy tent of Duke Hyou's war camp. The tent was filled with Qin's prominent commanders; tens of thousands of soldiers' futures hinged on the decisions made here. Seated beside me was Heki, an old acquaintance whose familiar presence brought a sense of reassurance.

Heki greeted me warmly:

"It has been a long time, Viscount Zhi Yong. Seeing you here is both surprising and encouraging."

I smiled lightly in response and said:

"Indeed, it has been a while, Heki-sama. It seems we all have to prove our worth in this battle."

Discussions in the Strategy Tent

The atmosphere in the strategy tent was chaotic. Qin's generals and officers were proposing various plans to counter Wei's moves. While Qin's total force was approximately 81,400, Wei's massive 150,000-strong army made this number appear paltry.

One officer argued:

"We cannot possibly break through Keiyou's gates with such a small force."

Another suggested:

"We should send the Third Army to the left flank and encircle Wei."

However, someone immediately countered:

"That's not feasible. We lost General Koku Gou Yu, so relying on the left flank is hopeless. Prioritizing the Fourth Army's reorganization should be our focus."

In the midst of this heated debate, a messenger burst into the tent, breathing heavily. He announced loudly:

"News! The Wei army has been spotted advancing from Keiyou. Their numbers are approximately 150,000! General Go Kei is leading them!"

The announcement caused a stunned silence in the tent, which was soon replaced by murmurs of concern:

"150,000 troops?!"

"He's already taken Gan Fortress; is he now targeting Asui? That cursed Go Kei!"

"How can we possibly face such a massive force?"

Duke Hyou's Intervention

Amidst the growing panic, a commanding voice resonated through the tent:

"There is no need to panic!"

The voice belonged to Duke Hyou, Qin's esteemed general. The entire tent fell silent as everyone turned their attention to him. Speaking calmly yet with authority, Duke Hyou declared:

"Go Kei's target is not Asui."

This statement left many confused. One officer inquired:

"But General, if Asui isn't their target, why does it appear that Go Kei is moving his army so far north?"

Duke Hyou gestured toward the map, indicating Wei's movements:

"Wei's aim is to draw the battle into the Dakan Plains. They intend to exploit their chariot forces' advantage on open terrain. This is why they are positioning their forces there."

He then added decisively:

"If Go Kei wants the Dakan Plains, then that is where we will go. The battle will be fought in the Dakan Plains."

Deploying the Fourth Army

Duke Hyou issued his orders firmly:

"Send word to the Fourth Army. Instead of holding their current position, they are to advance directly to the Dakan Plains."

Among the forces assigned to the Fourth Army were Shin, Piao, and myself. Our addition brought the Fourth Army's total strength to 31,400 soldiers. However, as in the original manga, the Fourth Army was in poor condition. Despite this, I felt that circumstances had changed. I thought to myself:

"In the original story, the Fourth Army was disorganized. But this time, with Shin, Piao, and my presence, history is already being altered. This battle will shape the future of both Qin and ourselves."

The March to the Dakan Plains

The army quickly mobilized and began its march toward the Dakan Plains. As we traveled, my mind was preoccupied with strategy. I analyzed the current state of the Fourth Army and formulated plans to counter Wei's 150,000-strong force.

Gathering with Shin and Piao, we started discussing potential strategies. Piao spoke seriously:

"Wei's ability to move such a large force will challenge us. But they must have weaknesses. We need to find and exploit them."

Shin, in his usual spirited manner, replied:

"Weaknesses? Their weakness is my sword! No one can stop me on the battlefield!"

Hearing Shin's words, I chuckled lightly and added:

"Shin, your confidence is admirable. But remember, this war won't be won by the sword alone—it will also be won by strategy."

Piao, ignoring Shin's playful demeanor, turned to me and asked:

"Zhi Yong, what do you think? How should we approach Wei's army?"

My response was clear:

"We must identify Wei's vulnerabilities and turn their strengths into disadvantages. Their chariot forces dominate open terrain, but they become ineffective in narrow passes. Therefore, we must study every detail of the Dakan Plains to find opportunities to disrupt their plans."

Conflicting Thoughts

My thoughts were in turmoil. Ten days prior, I had crafted a meticulously detailed plan. However, the presence of at least 40,000 Wei soldiers, led by their powerful generals, would determine whether my strategy succeeded. This battle was more than just a test of tactics—it was a test of execution under pressure. If the plan worked, the tide of the war could shift entirely.

System Mission and Rewards

While I was lost in thought, a sudden notification appeared in my mind: a System Mission had been issued.

Mission: Lead the Fourth Army to victory.

Bonus Mission: Eliminate General Kyuu Gen.

Rewards:

Mission Reward: Qi Cultivation Technique.Bonus Reward: Sword Technique: Moonlight.

The potential rewards were extraordinary. The Qi Cultivation Technique was a legendary skill, one that could push physical and mental limits on the battlefield. Meanwhile, the Moonlight Sword Technique promised to elevate my swordsmanship to unprecedented heights. I thought to myself:

"Are these rewards real? If I can claim them, I'll not only increase my own strength but also raise Qin's military capabilities to an entirely new level. But to achieve this, I must kill General Kyuu Gen. This is no ordinary task; this battle will truly test me."

Shin and Kyou Kai

As I reflected on the mission, I noticed Shin nearby. As usual, he was animatedly talking about something. However, my attention shifted to the figure standing beside him—a young woman dressed in white, carrying a sword on her back. Her presence radiated a quiet yet intense aura. This was Kyou Kai, someone whose reputation preceded her.

Shin noticed me and immediately called out with a grin:

"Zhi Yong! It's rare to see you so deep in thought. You must be planning something big."

I turned to him with a smile and replied:

"Shin, battles aren't won without plans. But knowing you, you probably prefer rushing in without much thought. Let's hope you're more cautious this time."

Shin shrugged and laughed.

"I'm always careful! Anyway, meet Kyou Kai. She's part of my unit, but she wanted to meet you."

Kyou Kai stepped forward, her gaze steady and piercing. She spoke succinctly:

"You must be Zhi Yong. I've heard much about you from Shin—a strong leader and a sharp strategist."

I inclined my head slightly and responded:

"Kyou Kai, I've heard a lot about you as well. They say you're a silent but deadly warrior. I'm confident you'll make a significant contribution to this battle."

Kyou Kai nodded briefly before retreating into silence. Her calm yet commanding presence instilled a sense of confidence in the entire unit.

Marching Toward War

As we analyzed our forces and prepared for the battle, the system mission and its rewards lingered in my mind. General Kyuu Gen, a formidable and ruthless Wei commander, would not be easy to eliminate. However, his death could turn the tide of the war in our favor.

Turning to Shin, I asked:

"Shin, what do you think of Wei's 40,000-strong army? How do you anticipate their attack strategy?"

Shin furrowed his brow slightly before answering:

"I think Wei will establish a strong defensive line. They'll also use their chariots to try and deal a crushing blow. But if we engage them in close combat, my sword will take care of the rest!"

Kyou Kai interjected, her tone measured:

"Wei's generals are often calculated. To disrupt their plans, we must target their strongest point. Kyuu Gen leads their forces, so if we neutralize him, their army will falter."

I nodded, appreciating her insight, and added:

"Yes, Kyuu Gen is the key to this battle. Disabling him will shatter Wei's morale. But this is no easy task. We must strike at the perfect moment."

Mobilizing the Fourth Army

To put my plan into action, I addressed the soldiers of the Fourth Army. Their morale would be the deciding factor in this battle. Speaking with conviction, I began:

"Heroes of Qin! Before us stands the massive Wei army. They are 40,000 strong, while we number 31,400. But remember, numbers do not determine victory! We are Qin's warriors, and behind us lies our homeland, our people, and our kingdom!"

Seeing the fire ignite in their eyes, I continued:

"This battle will not be easy. But if we move as one, we can dismantle their strength. Remember, defeating the enemy is not just about reducing their numbers—it's about breaking their morale. Our mission is to outsmart them and destroy their will to fight!"

After my speech, Shin and Piao added their own words of encouragement, further boosting the soldiers' spirits. Our unit was ready for battle. With determination burning brightly, we marched forward, prepared to disrupt Wei's plans and emerge victorious.

The Battlefield Unfolds

As we spread out on the battlefield, the sight before us was both intimidating and awe-inspiring. The Wei army was vast, their troops moving with impeccable discipline. In the distance, I could see the banners of Wei General Kyuu Gen and the command center he directed. The arrangement and strength of their forces painted a picture of an enemy that would not be easily defeated. Yet, in my mind, I clung to the plan I had crafted ten days prior. Everything hinged on its flawless execution.

Speaking with General Baku Koshin

General Baku Koshin, the commander of the Fourth Army, was a stern and resolute figure. Convincing him to approve my plan was the first hurdle. As I approached him, I ensured my demeanor was calm yet confident.

"General Baku Koshin," I began, "I have a proposal. Given the characteristics of the Wei forces, a direct assault will lead to catastrophic losses. However, if you grant me time and trust, I can devise a way to catch the enemy unprepared."

Baku Koshin frowned, studying me for a long moment before replying in a firm tone:

"What you're suggesting is bold, Zhi Yong. If you fail, it won't just be your unit at risk—you'll jeopardize the entire Fourth Army."

Meeting his gaze unwaveringly, I responded with determination:

"I understand the stakes, General. But if we can disrupt their formation, the advantage will be ours. If I fail, I'll take full responsibility. Trust me—this plan will work."

Baku Koshin seemed impressed by my conviction. After deliberating briefly, he spoke in a tone that was both stern and approving:

"If you fail, it won't just be your head on the line, Zhi Yong. But I'll give you this chance. Sometimes, bold moves are necessary in war."

Bowing my head respectfully, I replied:

"You won't regret this, General. Thank you for your trust."

Rallying My Troops

With Baku Koshin's approval, I returned to my unit. My 1,400-strong force stood before me, their expressions a mix of curiosity and apprehension. They didn't fully understand what lay ahead, but they were prepared to follow orders.

"Soldiers!" I called out, my voice firm and carrying across the ranks.

"Today, we face the might of Wei. They are larger in number and appear more organized. But our strength lies in our intelligence and courage!"

I paused, letting my words sink in before continuing:

"I need all of you to follow me. Everything must go according to plan. If we remain disciplined, we can strike a blow that will turn the tide of this battle in our favor!"

A murmur of agreement and determination rose from the troops. Shin and Piao stepped up beside me. Shin, as usual, wore a mischievous grin as he asked:

"Hey, Zhi Yong, what crazy plan do you have this time? You're always up to something wild, aren't you?"

My response was short and direct:

"Just follow me, Shin. And this time, avoid making reckless moves."

Piao, on the other hand, spoke with a more serious tone:

"Zhi Yong, will this really work? General Kyuu Gen is no ordinary commander."

Meeting his gaze with reassurance, I replied:

"Yes, Piao. But even Kyuu Gen has a weakness. And we're going to exploit it."

The Plan in Motion

Ten days prior, I had begun preparations for this very moment. In this section of the Dakan Plains, I had concealed death pits. These pits, lined with sharp stakes, were designed to collapse beneath the weight of Wei soldiers, disrupting their formation and inflicting heavy casualties. However, to utilize these traps, I needed to lure the enemy into this area.

The second part of the plan involved creating a fake sandstorm. Using bushes and dry branches tied to the backs of our horses, we could kick up dust as we moved, simulating a chaotic sandstorm. Amid the confusion, our unit would execute hit-and-run tactics to draw the Wei forces into the traps.

The Advance

With my 1,400-strong unit, we began moving in an orderly formation. The soldiers, briefed on the plan, followed orders meticulously. As our horses moved, the bushes dragged behind them, raising a thick cloud of dust. When the forward elements of the Wei army noticed this, they began to panic.

Wei's frontline commanders shouted commands to their troops:

"Enemies spotted! They're Qin soldiers! They're advancing, but their numbers are small. Encircle and crush them!"

Just as I had anticipated, the Wei soldiers began pursuing us. Implementing hit-and-run tactics, we surged forward to strike small enemy units before retreating. This disrupted their formation and forced them to chase us.

Springing the Traps

When the Wei forces reached the area with the concealed pits, the first phase of the plan unfolded successfully. The death pits began claiming their victims, swallowing Wei soldiers as they marched over them. Screams of panic and confusion echoed across the battlefield. The Wei army was visibly shaken and began to falter.

Shin, having just cut down an enemy soldier, approached me and exclaimed:

"These pits are brutal! Zhi Yong, when did you even set this up?!"

Smiling, I replied:

"Sometimes, Shin, cunning is the key to victory. But this isn't over yet. We need to inflict more damage."

Approaching Kyuu Gen

The Wei forces had suffered significant losses, but General Kyuu Gen remained a formidable presence. He had pulled back to the rear lines and was rallying his remaining troops. My next objective was clear: neutralize Kyuu Gen. His death would shatter Wei's morale and secure our victory.

As I advanced toward Kyuu Gen's position, only one thought dominated my mind:

"This isn't just a battle. It's a test for me and my unit. If I can kill Kyuu Gen, this war will be ours. But failure will cost us everything."

Determined, I pressed forward, knowing that my success would bring not only victory but also the Qi Cultivation Technique and the Moonlight Sword Technique. To claim those rewards, I had to win this battle.

Kyuu Gen's Panic

Wei General Kyuu Gen slammed his fist against the table in frustration. His forces were falling one by one into the pits, their carefully maintained battle formation crumbling rapidly. Scanning the chaotic scene, he clenched his teeth and shouted:

"Damn it! We've only arrived in this region today. How could they have had the time to set up such traps?!"

One of the nearby officers, trembling with fear, replied cautiously:

"General, the enemy must have prepared these traps in advance. They've planned every move to lure us here!"

Kyuu Gen, enraged by the response, yelled:

"Silence! There's something more important: what's written on the banner of that incoming cavalry unit?!"

A messenger stepped forward, breathing heavily, and answered:

"General! The incoming unit's banner reads 'Peace Dragons'!"

Kyuu Gen's face darkened even further. The name was unfamiliar, but the tactical precision displayed by the enemy made him realize how much they had mastered the terrain. With a grim expression, he muttered:

"Clever... truly clever. But if you think this war will end so easily, you're sorely mistaken!"

Drawing Them Further into the Traps: A Bloody Plan

The combination of the fake sandstorm and the concealed pits continued to wreak havoc on Wei's forces. But the decisive blow was yet to come. As Wei's scattered soldiers tried to regroup, I ordered my unit to advance, carefully guiding the enemy deeper into the trap zone.

"Advance!" I commanded. "Guide them further in without losing your positions!"

My soldiers moved precisely as instructed. Wei's disorganized troops continued to pursue, unwittingly stepping into the treacherous terrain. Screams echoed as soldiers fell into the pits, impaled by the sharpened stakes below. The sight of Wei's frontlines bleeding out underscored the brutal reality of war.

Shin and Piao's Covert Mission

While the pits claimed their victims, it was time to execute the second phase of the plan. Shin and Piao, along with 500 carefully selected soldiers, had donned Wei uniforms. Their disguise included banners from General Go Kei's division, allowing them to infiltrate deeper into the enemy lines.

Shin, wearing his usual confident grin, turned to Piao and teased:

"Hey, Piao, you're walking so calmly. Have you realized that we look just like Go Kei's men? If they catch us, they'll cut our heads off!"

Piao shot him a stern glare and snapped back:

"Shin, focus! This isn't a game. If we succeed, Wei's forces will collapse. But if we fail..."

Shin, sensing the gravity of the situation, nodded seriously and added:

"We won't fail. Taking down Kyuu Gen is my responsibility. I'll handle that bastard myself!"

Their unit advanced steadily toward Wei's central command. Thanks to the banners and uniforms, they faced no suspicion. Upon reaching the enemy's headquarters, Shin addressed his men:

"Listen up! We're going inside. Stay quiet and find Kyuu Gen. We'll strike quickly and escape if things go wrong. Understood?"

The soldiers responded in unison:

"Understood!"

Infiltrating Kyuu Gen's Headquarters

Shin led his disguised unit into Wei's headquarters. The guards, believing them to be reinforcements from Go Kei's division, paid them no mind. Shin's sharp eyes scanned the area for their target, while Piao pointed out a key location. There stood Kyuu Gen, barking orders to his officers. His agitation and fury betrayed his loss of control over the situation.

Shin gripped his sword and turned to Piao.

"I'll handle this. If things get messy, you and the others retreat immediately. Got it?"

Piao hesitated but ultimately nodded, understanding Shin's resolve.

"Alright. But be careful, Shin."

The Encounter with Kyuu Gen

Shin approached Kyuu Gen's position. As he drew closer, Kyuu Gen turned suddenly, noticing the unfamiliar figure. His eyes narrowed at Shin's uniform and banner, suspicion flickering across his face.

"Who are you?!"

Without wasting a moment, Shin lunged forward, drawing his sword. Kyuu Gen quickly unsheathed his own blade, parrying the attack just in time. The clash of steel forced both men to step back momentarily.

Kyuu Gen, glaring at Shin, shouted:

"You're a Qin soldier! I'll kill you here and put an end to this treachery!"

Shin smirked and replied mockingly:

"Go ahead and try, Kyuu Gen! Let's see if you can actually stop me!"

The Bloody Clash

Shin and Kyuu Gen's swords collided with tremendous force, each strike resounding like thunder throughout the command center. Shin could feel the raw strength of his formidable opponent, but his confidence remained unshaken.

In a sudden move, Kyuu Gen lunged at Shin with a fierce attack. However, Shin swiftly stepped back, dodging the strike with precision. In retaliation, he swung his blade toward Kyuu Gen's arm, leaving a shallow cut. Kyuu Gen growled in pain, his fury intensifying.

"Damn Qin soldier! I'll crush you here and now!" Kyuu Gen roared.

But Shin paid no heed to the threats. In a deft maneuver, he disarmed Kyuu Gen, sending the enemy general's sword clattering to the ground. Forced to his knees, Kyuu Gen glared at Shin with a mix of rage and desperation.

"Do you think you've won this war? Qin will fall without question!" Kyuu Gen spat, his voice trembling with defiance.

Shin smirked, his confidence unshaken as he leveled his blade at Kyuu Gen's neck.

"Think carefully before saying such bold words. Your end has come, Kyuu Gen."

With a single, decisive stroke, Shin's blade swept across Kyuu Gen's neck. The Wei general collapsed to the ground, lifeless, his final breath escaping into the cold air.

Victory and Return

Kyuu Gen's death marked the collapse of Wei's resistance. The news of their general's demise spread like wildfire through the enemy ranks, causing panic and a hasty retreat. Qin's 4th Army, along with their allies, had achieved a monumental victory in the Dakan Plains, gaining a significant advantage against Wei's forces.

Emerging from the command center, Shin held Kyuu Gen's sword high, signaling their triumph to his troops. The sight of their leader victorious ignited a surge of cheers and morale among the Qin soldiers.

This battle was a resounding success for the Qin army, and Shin stood at the forefront as a hero. The victory not only solidified Qin's position but also marked a turning point in their campaign, showcasing the strength of their resolve and the brilliance of their strategy.

Bakü Koshin's Astonishment

As Bakü Koshin observed the unfolding chaos, the calm expanse of the Dakan Plains had transformed into a tumultuous battlefield. The swirling sands and disarrayed movements created an almost surreal scene. His sharp gaze remained fixed on the chaos, a mix of skepticism and intrigue in his voice.

"What is this boy doing? The entire battlefield looks like a storm of madness. An army moving through a sandstorm? What could he possibly be planning?"

A nearby officer, his expression laden with concern, stepped forward.

"General, should we intervene? This level of chaos increases the chances of his plan failing."

Bakü Koshin narrowed his eyes, his sharp instincts reading the situation. Raising a hand to stop the officer, he responded firmly:

"No. Hold your position. I won't be the fool who ruins Zhi Yong's plan. But if he fails, he'll pay the price for this gamble."

The Collapse of the Wei Army

As the Wei soldiers advanced into the manufactured sandstorm, the second phase of Zhi Yong's plan began to unfold. Panic spread like wildfire as screams and confusion filled the air. Soldiers fell into hidden death pits filled with sharpened stakes, while Qin's ambushes struck swiftly. The well-coordinated assault shattered Wei's morale.

An officer rushed to Bakü Koshin with a report, breathless and wide-eyed.

"General! The enemy's frontlines have suffered heavy losses. Though the numbers aren't confirmed, it's estimated that over 10,000 Wei soldiers have been neutralized!"

Bakü Koshin turned to the messenger, his face a mix of disbelief and shock.

"What did you say? 10,000 soldiers?! How is that even possible?"

The Chaos in Kyuu Gen's Camp

Meanwhile, at Kyuu Gen's command center, the situation spiraled out of control. The general's eyes scanned the battlefield, his face pale with realization as he caught sight of a flag flying high above. Its bold lettering caused his heart to sink:

"'Peaceful Dragons'? What is this? How could that flag be here?!"

Turning to his officers, he bellowed with desperation:

"Find out who that flag belongs to immediately! This must be a trick! They could be in our uniforms!"

But the camp was already unraveling. Shin and Piao, leading their disguised unit, had infiltrated deep into the command center. Their attack shattered the remaining resistance, and Shin's decisive strike claimed Kyuu Gen's life. This death sent the Wei forces into utter disarray.

Bakü Koshin's Realization

As Bakü Koshin turned his gaze toward the Wei camp, his eyes locked on the raised Peaceful Dragons flag fluttering above. His expression shifted to one of astonishment.

"Damn it! That boy actually did it. They've pushed all the way to Kyuu Gen's command center and raised their own flag. This isn't just a challenge… it's a declaration of victory!"

Turning to his officers, he barked orders with newfound urgency:

"Prepare our soldiers immediately. Zhi Yong's unit has sealed this battle. Now it's time to crush the enemy's retreating forces completely!"

For a moment, Bakü Koshin allowed himself a rare smile, a flicker of admiration for Zhi Yong's audacity and brilliance. Though he wouldn't voice it aloud, a thought lingered in his mind:

"This boy… one day, he could rise to become one of Qin's greatest generals."

The Aftermath of the Battle

When the dust finally settled, Zhi Yong's unit emerged victorious. Wei's 20,000-strong force was decimated—many perished in the traps, while others fled in chaos after losing their command center. Kyuu Gen's death had plunged the Wei forces into complete disarray.

Qin had secured a decisive advantage in the Dakan Plains, marking a pivotal moment in their campaign.

This victory was not just a triumph of war but a testament to Zhi Yong's leadership and ingenuity. However, this was only the beginning. Qin's adversaries had yet to reveal their full might, and the path ahead would demand even greater resolve and strategy.
