Chapitre 28: The Testimony Will Be Zero! End

Sento and Ryuga had headed back to the café with Nabeshima in tow, still unconscious.

They dressed the man in some fresh clothing and laid him down to sleep in the bed that Sento and Misora used, down in the secret lab. Sento disposed of the old patient gown that the bald man had been wearing.

Everyone stood there in silence, waiting for the man to wake up, each dwelling on their own thoughts as they observed him. Sento rested against a wall with his eyes closed, Misora sat in a nearby chair, picking at her nails, and Ryuga sat on the ground, dozing off with his head hung low.

Several hours passed. Nabeshima suddenly woke up.

His eyes went wide as he shot up in the bed. He looked around and threw the covers off of himself.

The first person he noticed was Sento leaning against the wall. Nabeshima got out of bed and started walking toward him, confusion all over his face.

Ryuga, barely able to keep his eyes open, suddenly sprang up with surprising speed. He cut off Nabeshima's path toward Sento and seized him by the collar with both hands.

"Finally awake, huh?" Ryuga ground his teeth and resisted the urge to punch the man. He tilted his head while pulling Nabeshima in closer.

"Do you remember who I am?"

Nabeshima scowled and broke free from Ryuga's grasp. "Who are you? I don't know."

He looked at Sento, then Misora, and back to Ryuga, his face turning back to confusion. Ryuga just stood there for a moment, having a hard time taking the man's response seriously.

"If that's a joke, it sure as hell ain't funny."

The look on Nabeshima's face didn't change one bit. Either he was the world's greatest actor, or he truly had no idea who anyone in the room with him was.

"I'm Ryuga Banjo...really?" Ryuga started to stare flatly at Nabeshima. He wasn't convinced by his denial at all.

Nabeshima stared back evenly at Ryuga. "I have no idea who you are...I don't know you."

The man's expression shifted suddenly, panic setting in as the gears of his mind whirred. He couldn't recall anything, Ryuga included. "Who am I!?"

Ryuga, feeling cheated, kicked the bedpost of the bed in anger.

Bang!

Misora covered her ears and jumped with fright due to the loud sound it made.

A look of pure frustration spread across the young boxer's face as he turned back toward the panic-stricken man, completely disgusted and full of rage.

"Are you fucking kidding me!? Don't screw with me!"

Ryuga grabbed Nabeshima's shoulders again and started shaking the man violently.

"If you can't testify, who's gonna prove I'm innocent?!...HEY!" Ryuga kept shaking him, becoming more and more aggressive with how much force he was using.

Sento shook his head and walked over to the two men.

"I think he's telling the truth, Ryuga..." He separated them, and Ryuga started to hyperventilate, panic also starting to take over now. Ryuga stumbled away from Nabeshima, leaning with his head and arms against the nearby wall. Nabeshima dropped to his knees, listless.

"What's wrong? What happened!?"

Sawa, accompanied by Nabeshima's wife and daughter, came rushing downstairs from the café. They had heard the commotion and surmised that Nabeshima had at last awakened.

Ryuga, who had turned away from Nabeshima earlier in frustration, was wearing a pitifully sad look on his face. In stark contrast, Nabeshima's kid was all smiles. She rushed forward to see her father.

"Daddy!!"

As she rushed to hug the man, his eyes widened in surprise. He clearly didn't recognize his own child anymore either.

He pulled her off himself and placed her at arm's length away.

Sento walked over to the Nabeshima's wife and Sawa; then spoke gently. "He seems to have lost his memory..."

As soon as the words left his mouth, Nabeshima's wife rushed past Sento toward the memory-wiped man. She stood to the side of him and their child, tears starting to well up in the corners of her eyes.

Sawa looked surprised as well. "He really can't remember anything?" Sento shrugged helplessly in response.

Haru pulled some string out of her pocket and started weaving it between her fingers, creating a shape.

"Look, Daddy!"

Nabeshima slowly raised his head and stared at his forgotten child's hands as they started manipulating the string.

"Tower, turtle, rubber...Helicopter! Cool, right!?"

Nabeshima's face was still vacant, not recognizing Haru as his own child. He looked away from her and the game of cat's cradle, not answering. Ryuga turned his head slightly from where he was brooding and noticed how Nabeshima was reacting.

He pushed himself off the wall and stormed toward the man who was at the root of all his problems.

"Banjo!" Sento started to head toward him to intercept but stopped at Ryuga's next words.

"Just look..." Ryuga's voice was soft and calm now. "...She's been practicing to show you because she loves you and wants your praise."

Tears started to well up in Ryuga's eyes as his heart softened.

"I don't care about whether you know me or not anymore...But at least, remember her...Remember your family, man!"

Ryuga crouched down beside the slumped man. "I'm begging you...remember them!"

Haru looked confused and sad now too. "You don't remember me, Daddy?"

Nabeshima hung his head, not looking the child in the eyes. He was trying to hold back the tears of his own. He couldn't remember his family, but now that he somewhat understood the situation, he felt terrible.

Sento walked toward one of the workbenches and grabbed a small flashlight.

"Haru..." Sento approached the girl, the light in his hand barely illuminating. He stooped down to meet her gaze.

"...Your daddy's fun memories with you...They were taken, like this."

He pulled one of the batteries out of the device, causing the light to go out.

"That's why..." Sento reached into his pocket and fished out a different, fresh battery, placing it inside the device.

"...You and your mommy need to make new ones, if you do..." He turned on the flashlight again; this time it was much brighter with the new battery.

"...I'm sure his memories will come back." Sento smiled reassuringly at Haru.

The little girl smiled widely back at Sento. "Okay!"

Haru walked over to stand in front of Nabeshima again, a huge smile on her face. The man looked up. After hearing what Sento had to say, he was able to look his daughter in the eyes.

"I'll teach you how to do cat's cradle, Daddy!"

Mrs. Nabeshima walked over and laid her hands atop her daughter's, offering a smile to her husband. Mr. Nabeshima, in turn, allowed a slow smile to spread across his face and gently placed his trembling hand over theirs.

Sento smiled and chuckled. Ryuga looked at the reunited family and then at Sento. He also couldn't help but start to grin too.

Sawa, having observed that everything was turning out well, approached the family. "I'll take you guys somewhere safe."

The three rose to their feet. Sawa smiled brightly. "Come on, Haru, let's go."

"Okay! Let's go!" Haru agreed, and they started to head toward the stairs. As they were walking, Nabeshima's eyes suddenly went wide. He grabbed his head and grimaced as he stared at a spot on the wall he had just noticed. He rushed forward and leaned against the wall, a bit of panic in his voice again.

He was leaning right beside the spot on the wall where Sento kept his 'Best Match' bottle collection.

"They had these bottles at their place too!"

Misora's eyes suddenly widened and she froze in place.

...

The very bottle-carrying panel that Nabeshima had suddenly remembered was being flipped around by Night Rouge. He slotted a bottle into it.

"Why didn't you finish him?...Stalk!"

He flipped around to look at the other armored man in pink approaching him from across the room in their secret laboratory.

"I'm simply a game maker..." He slung the gun he was carrying across his shoulder nonchalantly. "...I look at all the angles and come up with the best strategy. Everything's going according to plan."

...

Back at the café, Ryuga looked confused, while Sento already had a scowl on his face.

"Hang on, Sento, I thought only Misora could make the bottles?"

As soon as the question was asked, Misora looked up apprehensively at the two.

"How the hell does Faust have any?"

Both men turned from looking at each other to look her way at the same time. Misora looked down, unable to make eye contact with them any longer.

Sento looked away from her and started staring at the wall, scanning it with his eyes.

...

A little while later, the door upstairs in the café opened. Soichi had finally made it home. He was whistling a happy tune and started to stroll across the floor of the coffee shop while twirling a key on his finger as he went.

BANG!

A sudden smashing sound coming from down in the lab startled him. He dropped the keys on the counter and hurried through the secret fridge entrance and down the stairs as quickly as he could.

Sento was beating on a certain part of the lab wall with a large hammer, Ryuga watching as his friend pounded away. A green tablet was slowly being exposed. As it was revealed, Misora fell to her knees.

Soichi rushed onto the scene, looking concerned and confused. "What, what's going on? What's all the racket?!"

Misora looked at her father with a look of panic on her face. "Dad!" She pointed at Sento and the large hole he had created.

Soichi, still not able to clearly see what Sento was up to, rushed toward him. "Hey, what are you doing?! Sento, stop it!"

Sento kept smashing.

"I said stop!" Soichi grabbed the hammer swinging arm and finally got Sento to come to a halt. Sento narrowed his eyes in a glare at Soichi, while panting from all the swinging.

He looked over at the hole he had uncovered, hidden behind the plaster. He reached in, and with a sharp snapping sound, pulled away one of the missing pieces of Pandora's Box that he had video evidence of!

He held it up in Soichi's face.

"That's..." Soichi stumbled over his words.

"A panel from Pandora's Box." Pure venom dripped from Sento's voice as he stared at the café owner.

"Why do you have this here?!"

Soichi didn't say anything, he just stared back and forth between the panel and Sento.

"ANSWER ME!" Sento shouted in Soichi's face. The man looked down, not wanting to make eye contact with Sento.

Ryuga started to edge closer, realizing now that something was wrong.

Sento shook his head; the tone of his voice now sounded hurt.

"Are you a member of Faust?"
