When the management of Union Berlin was looking for a partner for Su Luo, the team was also preparing for an away game against Werder Bremen. Su Luo, on vacation, wasn't included in the squad to avoid potential injuries. Neuhaus preferred to sacrifice some points rather than risk losing Su Luo.
Seeing that Su Luo wouldn't play, his prospective father-in-law, Mr. Wagner, called him.
"Su, it's a good thing you won't play this time. We Bremen can finally win a game."
"That might not be true. Our substitutes aren't weak," Su Luo replied.
"Hahaha, just being stubborn," Mr. Wagner chuckled, confident that Werder Bremen, in full form, could handle Union Berlin's substitutes.
However, in the 11th round of the Bundesliga, Bremen was held to a 1-1 draw by Union Berlin at home! Werder Bremen had almost 80% possession and fired 21 shots, 9 of which were on target. Yet, Pickford conceded only one goal, making save after save.
Su Luo's former dancing partner, Brazilian veteran Silvio, finally scored his first Bundesliga goal! Union Berlin showed they weren't reliant solely on Su Luo. Everyone contributed their best to protect the points Su Luo had fought hard to earn. Despite the gap between the teams, they managed to secure a crucial point.
After 11 rounds, Union Berlin had 9 wins, 1 draw, and 1 loss, totaling 28 points. Meanwhile, Bayern Munich drew against Frankfurt, breaking their winning streak. They also had 9 wins, 1 draw, and 1 loss, tying with Union Berlin at 28 points. However, due to a significant goal difference from a previous 7-0 win, Union Berlin topped the table by a slight margin.
The championship race for the new season was fierce from the start! Other teams became targets for both Union Berlin and Bayern Munich, and it seemed the winner would be determined only by their second-round clash.
This decisive match against Bayern Munich was scheduled for after the winter break. The first battle after the break would be like a semester exam on the first day of school after summer vacation—exciting to think about.
After this match, the tough schedule finally eased. The next game against Manchester City was two weeks away, giving Su Luo some well-deserved rest.
In the 12th round of the Bundesliga, Union Berlin played away against Darmstadt. To adapt to their new tactics, Mahrez served as a false center forward, with Forsberg and Quinine on the wings. Kimmich and Naby Keita were the central midfielders, while Ake, Rudiger, Alex, and Pavard formed the defense. Su Luo played between an attacking midfielder and a second forward, acting as a free man in the front.
A well-rested Su Luo was on fire in the first half, scoring a hat-trick with overhead kicks and contributing an assist, effectively ending the game in 45 minutes. Even Union Berlin fans were surprised by how explosive Su Luo was in the free role.
Darmstadt's defense struggled against Su Luo. When they pulled out to defend him, they were cut down by various through balls. Relying solely on their defensive midfielder left gaps that Su Luo exploited. One goal came from Su Luo assisting Kimmich, who scored with a powerful shot from an unguarded position just outside the penalty area. The other three goals involved Mahrez, with Su Luo finishing in the penalty area.
In the second half, Su Luo provided two more assists before being substituted. First, Mahrez broke through the net in a one-on-one against the offside trap early in the second half. Then, at 60 minutes, Su Luo and Forsberg switched positions, and Su Luo delivered a perfect cross from the right foot for Quinine to finish.
A hat-trick of goals and assists in 60 minutes—Su Luo scored 6 points! After completing his assists, he was substituted to rest and left the game early. Darmstadt became the latest victims of Su Luo's dominance.
Union Berlin scored two more goals. Veteran Alex scored with a header in the 80th minute, and in stoppage time, Pavard struck from outside the penalty area. This goal foreshadowed his famous "Falling Leaf Sword" strike in the World Cup two and a half years later.
The final score was 8-0! Union Berlin thrashed Darmstadt, and Su Luo's debut as a free agent shocked Europe once again. While the German and European media lauded Su Luo, he was already on a flight to New Zealand for a commercial shoot.
The commercial for "StMV" was set at a beach in Queenstown, New Zealand. Initially, the club didn't want to let Su Luo go, fearing it would affect his form, especially with upcoming matches against Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City. Although Union Berlin was confident about qualifying, securing a win against Manchester City would lock in the top spot in the group, making the knockout rounds easier.
After negotiations by Raiola, the club decided to let him go.
Coca-Cola, a financial backer, also intended to become a sponsor of Union Berlin. However, the chief executive of Union Berlin firmly rejected Coca-Cola's proposal. The club feared that accepting such sponsorship would mean losing the support of their fanbase—the people at large.
East Berlin fans would never allow this to happen. The team that Berlin fans hate the most isn't Bayern Munich, but RB Leipzig. Since being sponsored and named by Red Bull Group, RB Leipzig has become a club boycotted by the Bundesliga. Accepting Coca-Cola's sponsorship could lead to the collapse of the Iron Alliance.
Of course, this didn't affect Su Luo's commercial commitments. After a flight of over ten hours, crossing more than half the globe, Su Luo finally arrived in New Zealand. As soon as he landed, representatives from Coca-Cola picked him up and took him directly to Queenstown.
Facilitating the cross-border collaboration between Taylor Swift and Su Luo was an SSS-level marketing plan for Coca-Cola! Even Coca-Cola executives were puzzled as to why the queen of the European and American music scene agreed to turn her latest music video into a commercial and collaborate with Su Luo, another Coca-Cola spokesperson. Was Su Luo Taylor Swift's new boyfriend? Given Taylor Swift's reputation, this kind of speculation was commonplace.
In short, upon arriving in Queenstown, Su Luo finally met Taylor Swift in the dressing room. After half a year apart, Taylor Swift seemed somewhat indifferent.
"You're here," she greeted him.
"Yeah," Su Luo responded.
"Lisa, could you give us a moment?" Taylor asked the makeup artist.
"Okay," Lisa replied obediently, leaving them alone in the dressing room.
Before Su Luo could react, Taylor Swift, with her flaming red lips, turned and fell upon him. Su Luo's first thought was that he might be attacked by a zombie. Swift's attack was so fierce that Su Luo's back hit the wall.
After a moment of breathlessness, Su Luo couldn't take it anymore. He turned and pressed Taylor against the wall, reversing their positions. If it weren't for the sponsor representatives knocking on the door, they might have forgotten why they were there.
"Su, did you break up with your little girlfriend? I want to be with you," Taylor confessed passionately.
As expected of Taylor Swift, she was so enthusiastic and direct. Despite the sincere confession from such a beautiful queen, Su Luo chose to decline.
"Which girlfriend are you talking about?" he asked.
"You!" she responded, biting his lip.
"Ouch! Are you a real vampire? That hurts!" Su Luo exclaimed as his mouth started bleeding.
Taylor Swift, realizing she had gone too far, felt guilty. "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to hurt you. But besides that model, do you have other girlfriends?"
"Well, friends from the sports world," Su Luo replied. As he made out with Taylor Swift, the image of Erica's amazing figure flashed in his mind.
Taylor Swift should intellectually dump Su Luo and then write a song to diss him. However, in the lyrics of her song "Style," she had already admitted that while she understood it was difficult for them to be together, she still couldn't control herself.
"Oh my god!" she exclaimed, ignoring the people outside the door. Taylor Swift hugged Su Luo tightly, resting her head on his shoulder and sighing softly.
The music video shoot went smoothly and was completed in less than two days. Especially the scenes where the hero and heroine embraced each other—the director was initially worried that they didn't know each other well enough to act convincingly in love. But he quickly realized he was overthinking it. Taylor Swift and Su Luo's chemistry was so natural that it didn't seem like acting at all. The director noticed but wisely kept silent.
With the end of the music video shoot, Su Luo's short vacation came to an end. He and Taylor had a great time together, so much so that Taylor became a bit clingy when they parted. In the car at the airport, she tightly hugged Su Luo's arm.
"Hey, we'll have a chance to meet again later," Su Luo reassured her.
"I'll be going to Madrid next year. Maybe I'll get the chance to watch one of your games live," Taylor said.
"Madrid? That's possible!" Su Luo replied. Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid were the two strongest teams that year, and Su Luo felt certain he would face one of them in the knockout rounds. But would it be Real Madrid or Atletico?
Although Su Luo had to focus on facing Dortmund and Manchester City next, his thoughts were already drifting to the UEFA Champions League knockout rounds starting in February next year.
