Chapitre 26: Rumor

Konoha, which had just begun to settle down after the recent festivities, found itself once again on edge as unsettling rumors spread throughout the village.

Whispers circulated that Namikaze Mirai, the Blue Flash of Konoha, who had recently returned and taken the demon fox under his care, had killed the Kumo ambassador. The peace treaty that had been painstakingly negotiated was now rendered useless, plunging the relationship between Konoha and Kumogakure into deeper turmoil. The specter of war loomed ominously over the village.

The gloom of impending conflict cast a long shadow over Konoha. For a while, the incident, now known as the 'Hyuga Affair,' became the hottest topic of discussion during meals for both villagers and ninjas. Conversations buzzed with details of the event, Mirai's controversial actions, and the potential fallout with Kumo.

Despite efforts by the Third Hokage and the Hyuga clan to contain the news, it spread rapidly, reaching every corner of the village. The tension was palpable as residents debated Mirai's actions. Some agreed with his decisive stance, while others condemned it, fearing the consequences.

Mirai found himself at the eye of the storm, a polarizing figure caught between admiration and criticism.

However, remaining indifferent to the swirling rumors and the mounting tension in the village. He focused solely on guiding Naruto in refining his chakra.

With the seal on Naruto already strengthened and fortified by Minato, the boy now faced no barriers. However, his immense chakra reserves proved to be another challenge. Despite the lack of obstacles, Naruto struggled with the intricacies of chakra control.

This struggle proved to Mirai that Naruto did not possess a natural talent in this area. Yet, Mirai firmly believed that with dedication and relentless effort, even this obstacle could be overcome.

Noticing Naruto getting bored and his attention waning, Mirai decided to switch tactics. "How about we finish up with some laps around the courtyard?" He suggested.

Naruto's face lit up, and he sprang to his feet. "Let's go!" He shouted, springing to his feet and dashing off at full speed.

As he watched Naruto enthusiastically run circles around the courtyard, his endurance and speed uncommon for a child his age. Mirai's mind wandered. He theorized that Naruto's heritage as an Uzumaki, a clan known for its powerful life-force granting extreme longevity, healing power, stamina, and vitality, was further enhanced by the Yang chakra of the Nine-Tails. This combination provided Naruto with extraordinary physical energy and amplified his innate talents.

Mirai couldn't help but think of Minato. He realized that his purpose was likely to endow his son with as many boons and advantages as possible, preparing him for the uncertain future.

His thoughts were interrupted by the panting Naruto, who had come to his side, huffing. "Uncle, I finished!"

Mirai smiled warmly. "Good job, Naruto. Go take a bath. I'll make dinner."

At the mention of dinner, Naruto's eyes lit up, and he sprinted toward the house with renewed energy.

Watching him with a smile, Mirai turned to follow. Just as he was about to step inside, he sensed a familiar presence. Kakashi, who usually remained hidden, had appeared.

Mirai stopped in his tracks and faced him. "What's wrong, Kakashi?" He asked casually.

Kakashi's one visible eye crinkled slightly. "It's about the rumors." His usual composed demeanor cracked slightly, revealing a hint of agitation. "Why aren't you concerned about the rumors? Why aren't you reacting despite being dishonored and hated?"

Mirai stared at him intently for a moment before responding. "This situation feels familiar, doesn't it?"

Kakashi's posture stiffened, but he remained silent.

Mirai continued, his voice steady. "The 'White Fang'—Hatake Sakumo. A genius ninja whose skill and fame overshadowed even that of the Sannin. His kindness and commitment to his allies brought him nothing but hate and ridicule, which eventually led him to take his own life."

Kakashi's gaze dropped, his eyes obscured by his silver hair.

Mirai took a deep sigh. "It's human nature, Kakashi. Most people agree and believe whatever they hear. It's not that they are incapable of thinking—they're just not willing to. They care more about whether something is exciting and if they can derive some twisted pleasure from it. Humans idolize those who rise to greatness, but many derive a strange pleasure from watching those same heroes fall from their pedestal. They revel in pointing out the so-called crimes from a moral high ground. In that moment, they feel like gods."

As Mirai turned to leave, following Naruto to the house, he paused for a moment and looked back at Kakashi. "True strength lies in staying true to yourself, regardless of what others say. And the best way to silence your critics is to prove them wrong. Those who truly matter will see the truth eventually."

Kakashi stood there, his eyes widened, taking in Mirai's words.

Mirai gave him a reassuring smile before continuing toward the house. "Come on, Kakashi. As Minato's last disciple, it's time you met Naruto officially. I'll make dinner."
