Great Expectation Leads To Great Disappointment

-Story Start-

-Third Person POV-

Truthfully, Chabashira could only blame herself for getting so easily excited and then just as easily disappointed...

Aoi's booming voice echoed in the classroom, as his unorthodox and rather odd proposal was digested by the poor souls who managed to hear it.

Chabashira's expectant and excited smile twisted quickly into a frown, as the slight gleam of excitement in her eyes quickly regained its former distant and cold luster amid the confused and bewildered murmurs.

Though, no one was more bewildered than the boy who Aoi was pointing at...

"E-Eh? Me?" Yamauchi couldn't help but mumble amid the awkward and stupefied audience.

Without further delay, Chabashira's loud sigh cut through the silence, as she turned to Aoi with her cold gaze, "10,000 Points to switch seats with his agreement. 20,000 Points if it is against his will."

Aoi nodded in understanding, whilst Yuuji couldn't help but facepalm.

Turning to the slack-jawed Yamauchi, Chabashira asked, "Do you agree to Todo-kun's proposition of switching seats?"

Caught off guard, Yamauchi felt a wave of awkwardness and panic wash over him. He began to sweat slightly.

Humans aren't keen on having their autonomy suddenly intruded upon.

After taking a deep breath to steady himself, he turned to his Sensei, scratched his head, and mumbled, "Well, umm, I kind of like this seat-"

A shiver went down his spine, as he felt a disturbance in the air.

An uneasiness that trickled down his very being and soul.

One may call it, a sixth sense, perhaps.

But, to put it simply, it's more of a primitive survival instinct ingrained in the Human Animal.

Sensitivity to change - In atmosphere, temperature, and a keen sense for when...

Someone is staring at you with ill intent.

Adhering to his survival instinct, Yamauchi's head turned to be met with Aoi's expression.

Aoi's eyes were as still as stone, fixed on Yamauchi with an impassive, indifferent stare.

...It terrified him.

Hesitation gripped Yamauchi as a grand internal battle raged between his survival instincts and his sense of autonomy.

Then, the odds tipped when an outside voice intervened.

"Yo, dude, you should agree, I'll make it up to you. Aoi isn't someone to compete against, I'll tell you. Heheh... Heh." Yuuji whispered awkwardly and apologetically.

It was Yuuji's reassurance and voice that had decided Yamauchi's course of action.

Collecting himself, Yamauchi turned back to Chabashira, regaining a note of haughtiness, "Y-You know what? Alright, I'll do a guy a favor. Can't be an asshole and make him waste 10,000 points, now can I?"

Glancing at his new seat, Yamauchi's mood lifted slightly, 'That blonde girl's kinda cute... Maybe this switch isn't so bad after all.'

Blissfully unaware of Yamauchi's internal thoughts, the class had garnered a slight approval of Yamauchi thanks to his casual and easy agreement.

...Or wise compromise.

Pick your poison.

Nodding, Chabashira stated simply, "Get up and switch seats, I'll confirm the payment with you after class. Meet me later in the Teacher's Lounge, Todo-kun."

Without further prompting, Aoi stood up with his bag, a satisfied smile on his expression as he passed Yamauchi by, and gracefully taking a seat on his new "permanent" seating.

The entire class gazed in utter confusion at the odd spectacle that just took place.

Most if not all of them could agree that this, excluding the special rules of the school, was the most unique and odd first day in a school year.

Chabashira's voice reverberated once more, with a hint of finality, "That will be all." Without delay, she grabbed her bag and folders and made her way out of the class, sliding the door open and leaving.

Folding his arms in satisfaction, Yuuji's tone caught Aoi's attention, "...I kind of liked sitting next to that guy, couldn't you have been more patient and we'd have figured out... I don't know? Someone more likely to agree to switch with you?"

Chuckling lightly, Aoi replied matter-of-factly, "My friend. The pot has been stirred. The seeds of curiosity and creativity have now been planted." He gestured to the more contemplative and introspective students in the classroom:

"We can buy... Anything? Even something as stupid as that?" A girl named Chiaki mumbled out loud to the girl next to her.

Gossip of that nature echoed in the classroom, with enough of them floating in the air, the implications of Aoi's actions were loud and clear for even the dumbest of the lot, who got the information through their more acute classmates vocal talks:

In this school, Points are omnipotent.

Though, that is only in hindsight.

Scratching his head, Yuuji couldn't help but exclaim, "And what is that supposed to do?"

A proud smile crossed Aoi's face.

He chuckled lightly, closing his eyes with an air of wisdom, "At large? I still don't know."

Deadpanning at Aoi's expectant answer, Yuuji answered, "Yeah, I figured..."

Coughing loudly, Hirata stood up, "Everyone, may I have a moment of your time?"

At the call out, attention easily gravitated to Hirata's standing figure, as he flashed a friendly smile at the crowd of thirty-nine students.

"Honestly, I think we're all a little overwhelmed by this." He started empathetically.

Prompting a scoff from Koenji and Aoi.

"The school itself, its uniqueness, the 100,000 Yen per month, even the implications of what they can do..." He gestured to Aoi, with an awkward smile.

Relieved that Aoi recovered from his... Downtrodden situation, but not all too pleased with the method of its curing.

"So, I was hoping we could all introduce ourselves to get a jump on getting better acquainted and to avoid situations where we can use Points to harm one another." He stated honestly, with a radiating smile.

"How about it?" His voice echoed.

A silent moment passed, and Kushida's melodic and cheerful tone resonated in the room, "I'm in!" She raised her hand in excitement.

With her agreement, the class quickly agreed to introduce themselves.

Well, most of them...

Some stood up with their bags and left the classroom, each with their own parting words:

"What is this? Preschool? I've got no time for this garbage." Sudo scoffed as he left.

"Hoho, a perfect being such as myself need not introduce myself." Koenji proudly and unashamedly stated as he left the room with grace.

Whilst the others that left kept their contentful silence in their exit.

A sad smile took hold of Hirata's expression as he mumbled, "That's okay, we'll get to know each other throughout the year, I'm sure." He said warmly with a note of optimism.

Gesturing at himself, Hirata started with a grateful nod, "Thank you for staying. I'll go first. I'm Hirata Yosuke."

Turning to look at all the classmates, he stated warmly, "Just call me Yosuke. No need for formality. I play all kinds of sports, and I intend to join the soccer club at this school. It is nice to meet you all!"

Applause echoed in the classroom, for the most part.

And just like that, with Hirata taking the lead, the rest of the classmates began introducing themselves:

Kushida Kikyo with her goal of making friends with the entire school.

Easily, her demeanor and words managed to charm most of the classroom.

Except for Aoi thanks to her... Lacking taste.

Ike Kanji, with his great hate for hot guys and passionate love for hot girls - Also accepts girlfriend applications.

Prompting an array of laughs, both genuine and awkward, and a slight awkwardness from the girls in the class.

Aoi couldn't help but wonder about his taste in women.

'It will require verification, it seems.' Aoi stroked his chin in intrigue as he heard the introductions.

Yamauchi Haruki, his professional career in a variety of sports, and his career-ending "injury".

"Now, then... You." Hirata smiled in encouragement at Yuuji.

Blinking, Yuuji smiled back, introducing himself with vigor, with a raised hand, "Itadori Yuuji! I guess I'm pretty good at sports."

"Pretty good my ass!" Yamauchi barked with a cackle.

"As humble as always, that's my brother." Aoi nodded in pride.

Continuing his introduction, ignoring the two idiots, "I used to compete in baseball and help out with other clubs when they needed help. I like Karaoke, TV, Premium Rice Bowls and impersonations! My favorite movie genre is vintage horror movies and my favorite movie is The Hunger Games."

"Karaoke? Let's go some time with everyone, Itadori-kun!" Kushida offered with a smile.

"I'd like that!" Yuuji replied with a thumbs-up and a grin.

"Hunger Games? Why that movie in particular?" Maya Sato asked with a finger on her lip and a tilted head.

Yuuji froze for a moment, contemplating how to answer that question...

Normally, he'd be just fine with giving the answer straight up, but, for the sake of first impressions, he'll hold ba-

"Jennifer Lawrence." Aoi answered in Yuuji's stead.

His unprompted calling of the name of a famous actress made Yuuji slump.

He had no defense.

"Yeah... I like Jennifer Lawrence." His expression and tone were devoid of any life and joy.

-Author Note Start-

You can read the next advanced chapter on:

patre0n.com/BurgerNoTomatoes

Currently, there is only 1 advanced chapter, but I will be done writing the 2nd advanced chapter tomorrow.

For now, it'll be 2 advanced chapters for this fic, I'll aim for a constant 3 advanced chapters to be available for this fic.

Also, the schedule for a chapter for this fic is once a week.

So the next already-written chapter will come out in a week exactly.

(I have the Gojo and Ten Shadows Fic in addition to this one so yeah :P)

On that note, hope you've enjoyed the chapter and it was up to snuff in quality and stuff.

I'll do my best to keep up the quality but I need feedback on how I portray the characters (Especially Yuuji and Todo).

Since COTE has a VERY VERY large cast of characters, that'll be hard but I'll try my best!

Love ya and cya next chappie! <3
