Chapitre 6: Overpowered mother

Ethan POV

"What you are going to do with that teddy bear " Lyra asked me pointing at the teddy bear I am holding.

"Good question, but for now I guess I keep it " I said while examining the teddy bear.

The design was good. Although I would have prefered a pokemon doll.

"Is that so? " she mumbled, her voice barely audible, feeling a bit disappointed.

I don't know why she is that disappointed. Suddenly I got a brilliant idea

"Here you go. " I said throwing the teddy bear to her and followed it with a " Keep it "

I took adventure book from her " I traded my teddy bear for your adventure book " I explained to her.

Thank you pokemon for the trading idea. Inspiration from the memories of trading Pokémon

Lyra stood there, momentarily stunned, staring at the teddy bear in her hands. Then, a slow smile spread across her face, She clutched the teddy bear to her chest, her eyes sparkling with delight.

Lyra cheeks flushed a deep crimson. She shuffled her feet, her eyes downcast, and a shy smile tugged at the corners of her lips. "Thank you, Woody," she mumbled, her voice barely audible.

Why do I feel like a I have a raised a flag. I can feel a death flag approaching.

We both travelled and I have found a dog collapsed on near the alley, it has lot of injuries.

"Oh no! " Lyra grabbed the dog, her face filled with tears as she started crying a bit.

"How cruel humans can be " Lyra raised a finger and touched the dog, a small glow appeared on the dog.

The glow is focused on the lyra's fingers"Here, feel it " She said while moving glowed finger towards my head.

"What? " I asked confused. Her fingers, touched me.

I felt it, the reason how the dog died. I saw the old lady slashing the dog and collecting it's soul. Wait isn't that the same lady we bought potions from.

I feel a prickling sensation in my mind. I felt the danger.

Wait first of all Lyra knows magic, and old murderous lady is running a stall. What kind of fantasy I am living. But then, a scream full of bloodlust ringed, ruining the joyful atmosphere.

A monstrous figure emerged from the portal, it is surrounded in flames, its eyes filled with malevolent intent. It was a fire elemental, a creature of pure destruction, and it was heading straight for the fair.Panic started in the fair as people scrambled to escape the fire elemental.

The stalls were overturned, the laughter replaced by cries of terror. The fire elemental roared in a loud tone, making my ears ringing.

"Fire elemental How?"

"Ethan!" Lyra yelled, grabbing my hand and pulling us towards the castle."We have to get out of here!"

We ran for our lives, dodging falling debris and scorching flames. The heat was unbearable, the smoke choking. But I refused to give up.

Some of the guards and mages have tried using huge amount of water to attack it but it doesn't seem to affect it. Strange.

I had to to live. Can't waste another life.

I caught sight of the fire elemental changing its course, targeting the houses on the outskirts of the fair and engulfing them in flames. Thank god it's not coming for us.

Lyra let out a gasp of horror. "My home!" she screamed, wrenching her hand free from mine and sprinting towards the burning farm.

I hesitated for a split second, she is gonna die.But then, instinct took over. I understand

I understand I will die if I go after her, not with the fire elemental wreaking havoc.

I should live a long life. I strengthened my heart. Never knew choosing for self benefit would be this tough.

I turned and ran towards the castle. My heart pounded in my chest, not with fear for Lyra, but with the thrill of survival. I should know magic and fightning skills, even Lyra knows them.

I shouldn't let that overprotective hag ruin me.

I reached the towering stone wall, its surface cracked and crumbling from the heat.

But I was fast I jumped and finally landed on the other hand. After that emergency, water is quickly supplied and cooled down.

I knew my mother would be furious, but that was a problem for later. Right now, I was safe. In the distance, I could hear the fire elemental's roar, a great escape.

The castle doors burst open, revealing my mother, the Duchess, her face pale with worry. Tears streamed down her face as she rushed towards me, as she hugged me.

*Poof*My face was buried in my mother's bosom her grip tightened.

Aah~ It felts nice and comfy here. I pushed myself more in her

"Oh, Ethan, thank the heavens you're safe!" she sobbed, her voice muffled against my shoulder.

"What happened? How did this... this monster appear?"

Now that I have escaped from the fire elemental, I began thinking.Who summoned the fire elemental? And why fire elemental in water zone? And why water terrain is not affecting it?

I gently pushed her away, my voice steady. "I don't know, Mother. But someone must have summoned it."
A group of knights and mages are with her, their expressions grim, joined us in the grand hall. One of the mages, an old man named Eldrin, stepped forward.
"It is weird" he said, his voice raised. "The summoning of a fire elemental is no simple feat. It requires immense magical power and a deep knowledge."
"But why a fire elemental then? Someone with that knowledge is clever enough to not use fire elemental in water based region like wavecrest. "
Another mage, a young woman named Seraphina, spoke up. "Normally, yes. But this elemental seems to be shielded by a powerful transmutator. It's as if it's properties have changed, allowing it to resist effects of the water."
"Look, maybe it's possible for transmutator. But going through the plan is just stupid if you ask me. Why even bother? "
A knight, Sir Gareth, slammed his fist against the wall, his voice filled with rage. "Whoever did this will pay dearly. They've endangered the entire kingdom"
"What is transmutator" I asked ignored.
"I will explain to you later. Okay sweetie. I promise " my mother said while caressing my cheek
My mother shifting closer to me kissing my forehead being close to me while, the soft pressure of her arm against mine, offered a strange comfort amidst the chaos.
She can a bit overprotective. But she is nice I guess.
Sudden my mother shifted, I sense a huge malicious intent and a cruel atmosphere, snapped me back to reality.
"Is that what dared to attack you?" My mother's voice, which had been filled with maternal concern, now dripped with icy resolve.
Her eyes are hollow with the soft curve of her lids had sharpened, her irises like a predator's narrowed gaze. Her pupils, usually wide and receptive, were pinpricks of focused intensity, burning.
"Whoever dared to harm my son, whoever dared to unleash this fiery abomination upon our kingdom," she hissed, her grip on me tightening possessively, "will face my wrath."
I think I love her, I squeezed her hand to say it's okay and be careful.
She was my mother in the end even though she can be overbearing.
A surge of energy crackled in the air, the temperature in the area decreasing as my mother raised her hands.
. A swirling vortex of water materialized above her, growing in intensity with each passing second.
The fire elemental, still raging in the distance, seemed to sense the threat. It roared in response.
With a flick of my mother's wrist, the vortex descended upon the elemental, holding it in a swirling prison of water. The torrent was relentless, with the pressure of the water crushing the elemental's form. My mother's eyes gleamed with a chilling satisfaction.
"Hydro pressure," she spoke in low soft voice, with a sadistic glee that sent a shiver down my spine. "It can crush even the most durable creatures."
A wicked smile curved her lips as she continued "You tried to destroy my only pleasure as a woman. Die " With a final, painful shriek, the fire elemental destroyed its flames extinguished in a cloud of steam. A wave of heat washed over us, but it was quickly dissipated by the cool air from my mother's magic.
As the steam cleared, my mother descended to the ground, her expression cold and emotionless. "The elemental was coated in a layer of lost souls, using blood type magic" she said, her voice devoid of any warmth.
"A dark ritual, using black magic to protect it from water. Used transmutation to alter the outer layer, combined with the signature of a black elemental magic." She whispered in cold manner
My mother, after a moment of stunned silence, simply sighed and wrapped her arms around me, her grip tightening possessively.
"My dear son," she whispered, her voice softening as she stroked my hair. "You have nothing to fear. I will always protect you."
