"Is the Ancient War Mother Tree really that rare?"
Haotian asked, pretending ignorance.
Elf Amy, with her innocent demeanor, answered earnestly, "The Ancient War Mother Tree is as rare as our Elven Mother Tree. There is only one in the entire Sacred Continent, and it's planted in our ancestral land."
Few knew the location of the elves' ancestral land, but it was certainly not within the Forest of Life, which was ruled by the Natural Elves Kingdom but wasn't the source of their bloodline.
Haotian was pleased with Amy's answer, as he indirectly gained a lot of important information.
"If you recognize it as an Ancient War Mother Tree, then you should know where my treants come from. They serve me because I planted this Ancient War Mother Tree," he explained.
Amy fell silent for a moment before responding, "Lord, your words are hard to believe. An Ancient War Mother Tree capable of nurturing treants can't be grown by human hands. Even if you did manage to sprout it, it would take an incredibly long time to reach its current size."
The Ancient War Mother Tree outside stood several hundred meters tall. Even if it grew a meter a day, it would take nearly two years to reach that height, which would have been noticed long before now.
Haotian replied, "I have no reason to deceive you, but this concerns my territory's secrets, which I cannot divulge."
Hearing this, Amy knew she couldn't press further. Inquiring into others' secrets was taboo, much like she would never reveal her own.
Amy shifted the topic, "Lord, is it true that the recent surge of Elven Spring Water in Forest City comes from your territory?"
"Yes," Haotian nodded slightly. This wasn't much of a secret anymore.
Amy continued, "Elven Spring Water is diluted from the Water of Life, a unique resource of our Natural Elf race. It's said the Water of Life is derived from the sap of the Elven Mother Tree, and that's true. But how did you manage to create it? Do you also possess an Elven Mother Tree?"
Haotian's eyes narrowed slightly, "Are you questioning me, elf?"
Amy quickly apologized, "Honorable lord, please forgive my tone. I meant no disrespect. I simply want to understand..."
She stopped herself, hesitant to reveal her true thoughts. She deeply wanted to know more about Haotian's origins. With an Ancient War Mother Tree and Elven Spring Water, she even suspected he might have plundered their ancestral land, though this seemed impossible. Yet, the more she looked at the Ancient War Mother Tree, the more it resembled the one from their ancestral land.
Haotian calmly said, "That is also a secret of my territory."
Amy was speechless again. Discussing secrets was off-limits, and Haotian would naturally not disclose them.
"Very well," Amy blinked and said, "Honorable lord, may I stay in your territory for a night to wait for my sister Ella? She is the lord of Kyatt City and has come to the Kalar Desert to deal with the dark dragon Charles."
She tried to explain clearly to avoid any suspicion from Haotian, though she was indeed curious to gather more information about the oasis.
Haotian replied, "I'm sorry, but my territory doesn't currently accommodate outside guests. There's another oasis about a hundred kilometers southwest where you can set up camp."
Amy's delicate face fell in disappointment. Not even a night's stay?
"Lord, when will your territory be open to outsiders? Or will it always be closed?" she asked.
Haotian smiled, "Miss Amy, perhaps you can return in some time. Then, you will have a wonderful night here."
"Praise the lord, that is exactly what I hoped for!" Amy breathed a sigh of relief. She would come back to the Golden Oasis in a few days.
"Honorable lord, since that's the case, I will take my leave. Before I go, may I have your permission to observe the Ancient War Mother Tree up close?"
"Of course," Haotian nodded.
Amy's face lit up with joy. The trio left the town hall and approached the Ancient War Mother Tree. Amy lifted her head, gazing at the towering tree, feeling the powerful aura of life and nature emanating from it. She was instantly enraptured.
With half-closed eyes, she murmured in a trance-like state, "Lord, this is my first time sensing the aura of an Ancient War Mother Tree… She is truly magnificent and beautiful, comparable to our kingdom's Elven Mother Tree!"
Curious, Haotian asked, "It is said that you natural elves are born from the Elven Mother Tree. Is that true?"
"Yes, lord!" Amy replied, "All natural elves come from the Elven Mother Tree, just like fruits from a tree. We are the children of the Elven Mother Tree."
Haotian imagined tiny elves hanging like fruits from the branches of the Elven Mother Tree... The image was indeed somewhat strange, reminiscent of the legendary fruit tree of Zhenyuan Daxian. He wondered if consuming an elf would grant immortality.
...
"Thank you, lord, for fulfilling my long-held wish!" Amy sincerely thanked Haotian and said, "Please also inform your treants to be careful when they go out. The dark dragon Charles harbors great malice towards both elves and treants!"
She was still unaware that three versions of Charles circled above her head.
"I will, you are a kind-hearted elf," Haotian smiled and nodded. After a moment of thought, he asked, "Miss Amy, do you know where I can find Dragon Soul Grass?"
"Dragon Soul Grass?" Amy's expression showed surprise. "How much do you need, lord?"
"At least a hundred stalks, the more the better," Haotian replied.
Amy shook her head, "A few stalks wouldn't be hard to find, but a hundred is a lot. Dragon Soul Grass is a rare magical herb that enhances the soul and boosts mental power. It only grows in dragon burial grounds. On land, it's rare since dragons mainly reside in the Seven Seas. However, there is one place..."
"If you really need Dragon Soul Grass, you can try your luck at Dragonfall Gorge. It's also in the Kalar Desert, about 1,400 kilometers southwest of the Golden Oasis. Thousands of dragons fell there thousands of years ago, staining the gorge with their blood. Occasionally, bounty hunters find Dragon Soul Grass there. You might try, but be cautious; the area is teeming with powerful undead creatures!"
Despite Amy's serious warning, Haotian's eyes lit up. For him, Dragonfall Gorge sounded like a perfect dungeon to explore.
