Chapitre 18: Chapter 16

The clouds parted, allowing the soft moonlight to spill onto the bustling streets of Tokyo. Kamo stood in the shadows, his phone pressed to his ear as he listened intently to Ayame's soothing voice.

"I'm so glad we were able to meet up today, Kagura-kun," Ayame said, her tone warm and genuine. "It was wonderful spending time with you."

Kamo couldn't help but smile, the corners of his lips turning up ever so slightly. "The pleasure was all mine, Ayame-san," he replied, his voice low and sincere. "I... I really enjoyed our conversation."

A brief pause, then Ayame's voice once more, filled with a hint of hesitation. "I was wondering, Kagura-kun... Would you be free to join me for dinner sometime soon?"

Kamo's heart raced, the words catching him off guard. He cleared his throat, trying to compose himself. "I... I would love that, Ayame-san," he said, his voice barely above a whisper.

"Wonderful!" Ayame exclaimed, her delight evident in her tone. "How does tomorrow evening sound?"

Kamo glanced up at the sky, watching as the clouds drifted lazily across the moon's surface. "Tomorrow evening sounds perfect," he replied, a small smile tugging at his lips.

"I'll text you the details," Ayame said, her voice warm and affectionate. "I'm so looking forward to it, Kagura-kun."

"As am I, Ayame-san," Kamo murmured, his gaze fixed on the shifting clouds above.

As the clouds parted, revealing the luminous orb above, Kamo couldn't help but feel a sense of calm wash over him. In this moment, with Ayame's soothing voice in his ear, the troubles of the day seemed to fade into the background.

As Kamo began to drift into the world of imagination, a sudden scream from his phone startled him, pulling him back to reality.

The shrill sound jolted him, his thoughts scattered as he instinctively clutched for the device, his heart racing with concern over what could have prompted such a distressed cry.

"Ayame?" he called out, his voice laced with concern. Silence was the only response.

Fearing the worst, Kamo takes off in a sprint. He bursts out of the Jujutsu High, his heart pounding with urgency. The moment Ayame's scream had cut through the call, a sense of dread had gripped him. Without a moment's hesitation, he took off running, his feet pounding against the pavement as he raced towards the city.

Weaving through the empty streets, Kamo's mind raced with a thousand possibilities, each one more alarming than the last. He had to get to Ayame's apartment as quickly as possible.

Turning a sharp corner, Kamo caught sight of the familiar building in the distance. Pushing himself harder, he covered the remaining distance in a matter of 20 minutes, finally arriving at the street in front of Ayame's apartment.

Kamo scanned the area, his eyes darting back and forth as he searched for any sign of Ayame or the source of her distress. The street was eerily quiet, and Kamo felt a growing sense of unease settle in the pit of his stomach.

Kagura cautiously stepped forward, his foot landing on something beneath his shoe. Glancing down, he noticed a cell phone on the ground, its screen cracked. Kagura instantly recognized it as Ayame's phone, a sense of dread and concern washing over him. The sight of the damaged device only heightened his growing unease, as he found the evidence of what he feared being true.

He crouched down, his fingers trembling as he picked up the device. "Ayame!" he called out again, his voice desperate. But there was no reply, only the eerie stillness of the night.

Gripping the phone tightly, Kamo scanned the area, his eyes searching for any sign of Ayame. The street was empty, save for a few parked cars and the occasional streetlight casting a warm glow.

Kamo's mind raced, his thoughts consumed by the sudden turn of events. What could have happened? Where was Ayame? The questions swirled in his mind, fueling his growing sense of dread.

Suddenly, a glint of something caught his eye. Kamo's gaze shifted to the ground, where a small object lay amidst the shadows. Cautiously, he approached and picked it up, his breath catching in his throat.

It was a delicate hair clip, the kind Ayame had been wearing earlier that day. Kamo's fingers tightened around the fragile accessory, his mind whirling with the implications.

Without a moment's hesitation, Kamo sprang into action. He needed to find Ayame, to ensure her safety. Pocketing the hair clip, he called someone.

Inside a dimly lit room, Kamo's eyes were glued to the flickering CCTV footage playing on the screen before him. The images showed a terrifying scene - Ayame, her face etched with fear, being forcibly dragged into a dark van by a group of people wearing suits.

Kamo's jaw tightened as he watched the events unfold, his knuckles turning white from the intensity of his grip on the armrests of the chair. A surge of anger and protectiveness coursed through him.

Turning to the man standing beside him, Kamo's voice was laced with urgency. "Nakamura-san, can you find out who those people are or where to find them?"

Nakamura, the clan head's right-hand man, nodded solemnly, his expression grave. "I will get it done, Kagurabachi-sama," he replied, his tone tinged with a hint of fear. Nakamura, privy to the full account of Kagura's battle, was hesitant to antagonize an individual capable of such destruction.

Without wasting a moment, Nakamura hurried out of the room, his steps quickening as he set out to uncover the identities of the individuals responsible for Ayame's abduction. Kamo, meanwhile, remained in the dimly lit space, his eyes fixed on the CCTV footage.

The wait was agonizing, each passing second feeling like an eternity. Kamo's fingers drummed against the armrest, his patience wearing thin. He couldn't shake the overwhelming sense of dread that had settled in the pit of his stomach.
