Chapitre 35: Spicy Encounters

We sat on opposite sides of the table, and my gaze remained fixed on the book lying on the table.

Its pages contained various images of foods I had never seen before in my life.

I stared with wide eyes, unsure of what they meant, but Liam's chuckle prompted me to raise my head and look at him with a raised brow.

"Go ahead and pick whatever you want," he said.

"But-"

"I know, I know you don't know them. But choose the image that appeals to you the most."

I blinked rapidly, confused.

How could I choose when I had no idea what they were?

I remained silent, watching as Liam attentively flipped through his own book, massaging his lower lip with his thumb and index finger.

However, he soon caught my gaze, and a smile instantly formed on his lips.

He dropped the book on the table, leaned forward with his elbow resting on the table surface, and supported his cheek with his hand as he continued to watch me with an intense gaze.

I gulped hard, refusing to look away, but Liam seemed determined to hold my gaze.

I parted my lips to speak, "Uh-" but couldn't find the words.

My gaze eventually succumbed to Liam's intense stare, and I diverted my attention to the book on the table.

I picked it up, feeling the smooth slick cover beneath my fingers.

As I was about to open it, I stole a quick glance at Liam, and my heart raced at the realization that he was still fixated on me.

I attempted to appear nonchalant by flipping through the pages rapidly, but Liam's unwavering gaze made it impossible for me to focus.

I dropped the book on the table and crossed my arms over my chest.

"If you keep staring at me like that, when are we going to eat?" I asked, frowning.

But my words seemed to have no effect on him; he remained motionless, like a statue.

"Uh...," I picked up the book again and opened it.

This time, my attention was drawn to a dish on one of the pages.

It appeared to be chicken, but it was red and seemed to be fried or roasted. It looked crispy, with a thick, brown sauce in a white bowl next to it.

I tilted my head, puzzled. What is this?

I can tell it's chicken by its appearance, but why does it look so different from what I'm used to? Hmm?

But there's some writing below it, which I can't read.

"Let's have that, then," Liam said, his voice breaking the silence.

"You want us to have it?" I asked, raising my head to look at him.

"Hmm," he nodded, leaning back in his seat.

I turned the book to face him, "but what is this? It looks like chicken, but it doesn't look like the chicken I know."

"That's just Korean-style fried chicken."

I instinctively raised a brow, "Kolean styled... what did you say again?"

He chuckled, "Korean, not Kolean, and it's Korean fried chicken with ginger garlic sauce."

"Oh, what's Kolean? Is it sweet? Or is it a type of chicken? But I've never heard of a chicken breed called Korean. What is it, Liam?"

He only chuckled again, the tip of his nose pink, "It's not a chicken, it's the name of a country, Korea."

"Ko-re-a?"

"Yes, Korea. And this is how they fry their chicken."

"Oohh," I nodded, shifting my gaze back to the image.

"It makes sense now, Kolean chicken."

But Liam's gentle laughter made me look at him once more, and then I raised a brow, watching as he facepalmed with his elbows rested on the table.

My surprised expression turned into a smile as I watched him endearingly. "Uhm, why are you laughing?"

But he didn't respond, too consumed in his laughter.

I've never seen Liam laugh so hard. Did I perhaps say something hilarious?

He removed his hands from his face, still grinning, and sniffled.

His nose was now pink, he had laughed too hard.

He used a white handkerchief to wipe his eyes and returned his gaze to me.

I blinked twice as I stared at him, but then he suddenly looked away, gazing off to the side.

"Ugh, Layla, you're so adorable I can't!"

My smile grew wider. This is literally the first time he's called me cute.

He turned his head back to me, his smile still lingering.

"We should eat," he said, picking up a large square black object from the table.

I hadn't noticed it until then.

The object flickered to life, casting a blue light on Liam's face and illuminating his features.

His eyes were fixed on it, and his fingers traced his lower lip in a seductive motion, his beauty leaving me captivated.

My smile grew even wider, and I rested my elbows on the table, propping my face up with my hands, watching Liam with rapt attention.

But then he raised his eyes to meet mine, and a smile instantly formed on his lips.

His gaze was intense, those grey eyes sending shivers down my spine, but I couldn't look away.

Then, something beeped from the object he was holding, and he shifted his gaze downward, breaking the spell and making me frown.

What was that?

I pulled my arm away from the table and leaned back in my chair, feeling the sturdy wooden surface against my back.

But then I felt a sudden draft directly on my chest, making me frown, and I realized that my bra felt a bit loose - not too loose, but not as snug as I liked.

Oh well, it wasn't noticeable, so who cares?

Liam lifted his eyes to mine, then dropped the object he was holding and rested his arms on the table.

"They'll bring it soon," he said with a slight smile.

"Hmm, okay," I nodded, returning his smile.

"Is something wrong with your bra?"

My eyes widened in surprise. "Huh?"

"Do you want me to take a look?"

My heart raced, and my lips parted, gazing at Liam with a hint of embarrassment. "That's very direct."

"I'm always straightforward with you, even now. So let me help you with it."

"No, Liam, I don't trust you. You always seize every opportunity you get."

"That's the thing about life, my love. One must seize every opportunity that comes their way, and that includes now."

I could tell Liam meant what he said. His smile was gone, replaced by an intense, demanding gaze that made me feel the urge to give in, but no!

I don't want us to do it here... what if I get pregnant?

I touched my belly, feeling the flatness beneath, and my eyes widened at the sudden thought.

My mother had always told me the signs of pregnancy, like morning sickness, fatigue, mood swings, breast tenderness, frequent urination, food cravings, and a missed period.

But I hadn't experienced any of those, and Liam already had sex with me three times. Why wasn't I pregnant?

I furrowed my brows, then dropped my arms.

It's all confusing.
