"Why?" she asked curiously.

Gerald stared at her as he wondered whether to tell her the reason or just claim that he was just shocked by the news. However, he felt that he needed to tell her as she was his wife, and if he couldn't tell her such a thing now, that would only prove that he didn't trust her.

If he didn't trust her then there was no reason for him to work for her trust. After all, it would be unfair to her. If something ever happened and he was supposed to trust her unconditionally but he didn't, he would hurt her and he would be the one who would ruin their marriage and not her.

There was no way he should be claiming that she might end their marriage if she knew about everything going on in his family but in reality, he might be the one who will crush it and end it.
