Chapitre 25: .

Venus was a very picky eater. He was also picky with who he chose and didn't choose to follow. Uh. This probably isn't the best sentence to start with. Let's start with a flashback instead, then. Forget I said anything. Flashbacks are always safe, right?

Venus, 7 years old, at the very start of the universe, was gingerly scraping his hand, which was bleeding, with a cotton ball. As ordinary as this seems, you have to remember something. At the start of the universe, also known as the Big Bang, it took a decent 100,000 years for any sense of order, however remote, to be established, and so Venus grew up in utter chaos, as did most of the other planets.

Currently, he had just come out of being heavily abused by the Sun. As it goes. His hand was bleeding and bruised with multiple burns, and a few phrases were still revolving around his head.

"You're useless.", the Sun had said.

The Venus we have known and come to love today would have never batted an eyelash at such petty words from the Sun - but you have to take into account that Venus was currently the height of a shrub and the age of one too. And, of course, the only reason he came to be able to withstand such tomfoolery from the Sun was that he had endured too much of it as a child.

And, of course, this was where he had first met Merra, known commonly to the readers as Moon.

Venus was curled up lightly into himself, sitting in a forgotten, dusty corner of a shelf, not even bothering to hide the tears streaming down his face since after all there was no one to see them. Then, behind him, a voice rang out. A small girl, with dark curly hair that bounced in ringlets around her head, and golden honey eyes, was appearing around the adjacent corner of the room. Venus quickly turned around, furiously wiped at his face with a sleeve, and then risked a glance back.

Then, his eyes met with those of the girl. He thought for a minute that she seemed to have small flecks of gold in her eyes, but when the light changed, the flecks were gone before he could blink.

"Uh, hello?" the girl said hesitantly, still hovering, with two fingers resting on the doorway. Venus tried to keep a straight face, but it was no use. Before he could stop himself, he blurted,

"Am I useless?"

The girl, who seemingly hadn't been able to predict such a turn of events, blinked, and then smiled and leaned her head on the door, shifting so that she was fully in view.

"I don't think you are." She said mildly. Her voice wasn't cold or warm, it was simply… devoid of emotion. As if the words coming out of her mouth, even if they were slightly warm, were simply a farce. Even her smile, even though it lit up the dim room, seemed… uneven. Venus tried not to think about it too much and sluggishly patted the dusty corner beside him.

"Can you sit down next to me?" Venus asked, and the girl complied. They sat next to each other for a while, the girl peacefully resting her head against the wall, before they exchanged names. Her name was Moon, one of the many moons. Somehow Venus felt an unexplainable tug towards her, but he tried to brush it off. There was plenty of time anyway. To catch Moon, I mean.

He would make sure she was his moon, not anyone else's.
