Chapitre 21: XXI - The Experiment
This experiment's gonna be fun, like raising your own little child.
I conjured up an egg, see, one that holds something special inside, an embryo. It's like a miniature version of yours truly, unconscious for the moment, but with a simple set of rules:
My obedience,
imagination,
and curiosity.
Now, I ain't got the luxury of time to explore every detail and opening of the Null chamber myself, what with my busy schedule in the real world and all.
So, I'll leave it to my little one to handle. Let it sip on that bottle of Kichil's blood while still cozy in its shell, all the while shaping its surroundings to its fancy.
Time to let the kid play while I go check in on my fellow children of insight.
Leaving the null chamber, I left behind a note, a whispered promise to the unborn, etched in my blood: "Your father loves you and will come back soon."
Curious thoughts lingered in my mind, pondering the child's fate as I ventured forth to confront the challenges that were in my realm.
Farewell for now, little one, may you heed the call of destiny in due time, be good, obedient, and most importantly, follow your curiosity while I face the trials that await in this earthly domain.
Grasping Psyches ring in my hand, I conjured forth a door from the ether, its existence a mere production of my imagination brought to life.
With a twist, the lock clicked open, signaling my readiness to step back into Manhattan.
Psyche is amazing, these portals are wonderful, these wormholes, defy the limitations of human understanding and are yet to be fully understood by the children of insight.
In the realm of men, such journeys would be but a distant fiction, even if the speed of light was at our disposal.
Yet here we stand, on the precipice of otherworldly realms, made possible by the mysterious forces of Einstein's field equations. Truly, the mysteries of the universe are infinite, urging me to explore the depths of existence itself.
For a simplified notion of a wormhole, space can be visualized as a two-dimensional surface. A wormhole would appear as a hole in that surface, lead into a 3D tube (the inside surface of a cylinder), then re-emerge at another location on the 2D surface with a hole similar to the entrance. An actual wormhole would be analogous to this, but with the spatial dimensions raised by one. For example, instead of circular holes on a 2D plane, the entry and exit points could be visualized as spherical holes in 3D space leading into a four-dimensional "tube" similar to a sprinter.
Another way to imagine wormholes is to take a sheet of paper and draw two somewhat distant points on one side of the paper.
The sheet of paper represents a plane in the spacetime continuum, and the two points represent the distance we want to travel, a wormhole could connect these two points by folding that paper (the plane) so the points are touching. In this way, it would be much easier to traverse the distance since the two points are now touching.
So if I am here in this Null chamber that is eons far away from Earth, Manhattan, New York, the wormhole bends that distance and turns it into mere meters, yes, wormholes can bend space itself.
Truth is, yet theoretical, some scientists believe that even time travel is possible with the use of wormholes, future time travel of course. Past time travel would be theoretically possible but it will have no impact on the present because of the Grandfather Paradox.
What is the Grandfather Paradox you might ask?
Well, It is a paradox that poses a question that challenges the very fabric of logic.
Picture this: a man, armed with the miraculous power to journey back through decades of history, sets forth on a mission to end his own lineage by offing his grandfather before his own birth.
In doing so, he creates a tangled web of causality wherein his very existence hangs in the balance.
For if his grandfather were to die at his hand before the man's own birth, how could he then come to exist in the first place and actually kill his grandfather?
It's a puzzle that confuses the mind and defies the laws of logic as we know them.
Yet, in the concept of time, perhaps such paradoxes hold truths that lie beyond the grasp of mortal comprehension, for the moment being.
I stepped into my apartment, expecting a mess of blood and chaos, but to my surprise, it was clean as a whistle.
Must've been Psyche's doing.
That girl's got a good heart, no doubt about it.
I'll have to remember to thank her properly.
Glancing at the calendar, I realized a week had slipped by.
But back in the Null chamber, it felt like months.
Soon enough, I'll be meeting with the others, seeing if they managed to rope in any more of the contract holders for our little Church of Truth.
Hope they've been sticking to my rules, especially that wild card, Luck Blaze.
As I stood under the shower, washing away the blood and grime, I caught sight of my reflection in the mirror. Those scars from Kichil's handiwork still lingered, like some sort of stigmata, a crucifixion wound similar to Jesus of Nazareths holy wounds.
And there it was, my eye, the one that took a hit from that golem back in the dream realm.
It had healed up, sure, but there was something off about it.
You see, the pupil, it looked like a crimson clock, with Latin numbers etched in.
Was it because of the blood?
Is this some sort of evolution?
Well, doesn't matter much right now.
Just gotta cover it up with a white eyepatch and head out to meet my comrades…
