Chapter 78: Alger's Speculation (Part 1)

"The World" and "The Hanged Man" quickly submitted their written content. After reading it, Mr. Fool chuckled in the gray fog:

"There's no overlap. For most extraordinary individuals, the secret provided by Mr. World holds little value. However, for certain people, it's of utmost importance - beyond monetary measure."

He must have breathed a sigh of relief... But why did he add that last part? If I had heard that, I would certainly hesitate.

Sure enough, Alger was quite hesitant. After nearly 20 seconds, he asked, "Mr. Fool, could you provide a bit more guidance? I'm unable to decide at the moment."

Mr. Fool considered for a moment before replying, "The content he described is a detailed supplement to the secret you already know."

Hearing this, Alger no longer hesitated. He turned to "The World" and said concisely, "Deal."

He immediately added:

"Within this week, I'll exchange the spinal fluid of the Evil-Patterned Black Panther and the medullary crystals of the Elven Spring for you."

"Of course, this is contingent on their appearance at the Pirate Gathering. While the probability is high, we must believe that anything can happen. In that case, it may be delayed to next week, the week after, or even next month. Rest assured, I will certainly fulfill my promise."

"No problem. With Mr. Fool as witness, I have no concerns," "The World" replied hoarsely.

Next, Audrey saw a piece of parchment appear in front of "The Hanged Man". He eagerly read it, and then...

Audrey observed "The Hanged Man's" obvious loss of composure, realizing that the existence of Sequence 0 had a much greater impact on him than she had anticipated.

Glancing at Miss "Justice's" lingering gaze, Audrey turned to Derrick and said, "Mr. Sun, I have a question for you."

Derrick sat up straight.

"I'd like to know..." Audrey recalled the suddenly fleeing demonic dog, "Do Beyonders of the 'Demon' pathway possess abilities related to prophecy or danger perception?"

Klein, hidden behind the gray fog, immediately furrowed his brow. He easily associated this with the recent serial killer in Backlund.

Did she encounter that demon? Surely not, that "Demon" wouldn't dare venture into the North Borough, would they?

"All 'Demons' have similar abilities," Derrick answered. "If someone has the ability to harm a 'Demon' and acts on it, the 'Demon' can sense and perceive it, thus grasping the source and individuals involved in the danger. The timing and range of perception vary depending on the type of 'Demon'."

As expected... Audrey frowned slightly, pondered for a moment, then looked at the others and asked, "If a 'Demon' suddenly ran away in the middle of a fight with you, what would you speculate?"

"Perhaps a powerful figure suddenly approached?" Audrey thought and said, "The 'Demon' sensed the presence of the strong individual and fled?"

"Are there any other possibilities?" Audrey pressed.

"Can you confirm there were no other powerful figures at the scene?" Alger inquired.

"You've misunderstood my intention, Mr. Hanged Man," Audrey shook her head. "I'm not unaware of the reason for this incident; I want to know how others would speculate."

"I would also suspect a passing powerful figure," Alger said, looking at Audrey. "Or perhaps you were planning to use a powerful sealed artifact."

Audrey glanced at Alger, who had already assumed she was the one fighting the "Demon". She hesitated to speak, but ultimately decided against it.

"There's another possibility," "The World" suddenly interjected. "I might suspect the opponent was a demigod disguised as an ordinary person out of curiosity..."

"Your imagination is quite vivid, Mr. World," Audrey responded with a forced smile. "Why not suspect that I'm a true god walking on earth?"

Alger looked at Audrey, seemingly wanting to say something but holding back.

Audrey glanced at "The World", who had closed his mouth, and decided to ease the atmosphere. She turned to Derrick and asked, "Mr. Sun, I remember you mentioning that the City of Silver has the formulas for Sequence 9, 8, and 7 potions of the Dragon pathway?"

"Yes," Derrick nodded honestly. "The Sequence 7 potion is called 'Psychoanalyst'."

"What would I need to offer in exchange if I wanted to obtain it?" Audrey asked demurely.

"The Sequence 7 potion formula of the 'Sun' pathway," Derrick answered without hesitation.

Audrey nodded slightly, "I'll try my best to collect it."

As the formal exchange concluded and the free discussion began, Alger promptly mentioned, "Hurricane Rear Admiral Qilangos's fleet has been subdued, and a new Pirate Admiral has emerged."

Audrey inquired, "What's their name? What's their current title? No such news has spread in Backlund yet."

"The Hanged Man" Alger nodded slowly and said, "She's a lady, previously a famous pirate known as 'Disease Maiden' Tracy. Have you heard of her?"

"No, I'm not very knowledgeable about this area," Audrey shook her head honestly.

Alger paused for two seconds, not wasting time on explanations, and directly said:

"In any case, she subdued Qilangos's fleet last month, proving through action that she possesses the strength of a Pirate Admiral. She renamed Qilangos's ship to 'Black Death' and now calls herself 'Rear Admiral of Disease'."

"In the past, she mainly operated alone, skilled in using curses, black fire, and frost. Those who opposed her would often suddenly fall ill with various diseases. Currently, no one knows which pathway she belongs to, but it's confirmed that she's at the Sequence 5 level."

Curses, black fire, frost? Audrey's brow twitched as she recalled a certain sequence that had left an impact on her. But her thoughts seemed to run away from her, and she couldn't help but consider the compatibility between the ability to spread diseases and witches.

...It actually seems quite fitting.

Audrey decided to share this perplexing thought with others. She looked at Alger and said, "She might be a witch."

Audrey's eyes widened, and she asked, "Miss Fate, how do you know this?"

Audrey explained, "Curses, black fire, frost... these are all abilities of witches. Although I wasn't previously clear on the abilities of Sequence 5 witches, now it seems it might be spreading diseases? No, perhaps it should be spreading plagues."

"Thank you for sharing, Miss Fate," Alger expressed his gratitude symbolically.

"Then, as a token of thanks, could you tell me more about maritime affairs? For instance, the four Pirate Kings and the other six Pirate Admirals..."

Alger looked around, seeing that "Justice" was unsurprisingly very curious, while "The World" and "The Sun" also adopted listening postures. He nodded slightly and said, "No problem."

Alger: You didn't accidentally tell the truth, did you?

This concludes the first part. More to come...
