Chapitre 28: Questions

I took a minute to digest and reason Antonio's question. Although Michael had told me not to worry about Melanie, it was impossible to ignore her when we all lived under one roof. Melanie never disturbed me in Michael's presence, but she never failed to make her presence known to me and everybody around.

"I..I don't know.." I stammered, unable to produce a reasonable answer. I wanted to lie, and snap back at Antonio by telling him that it was none of his business. But after analyzing his question, I became bothered. Would it really be possible for Michael to ignore the betrothal between him and Melanie, and love me despite the heat on him? He seemed like the man who doesn't bend to the wills of others. However, his love for his mother was evident, and I feared he might crumble under that affection.

What then?! What happens when he leaves me for Melanie? Would I really be able to live normally ever again? What would become of me?
