Suddenly, Everit reacted and swiftly utilized the jet wind to soar into the sky.
But this time, he failed to take flight!
Looking down, he noticed the collapsed buildings casting a shadowy area, from which dark magic silently extended, ensnaring his legs.

A bolt of lightning struck, narrowly missing Everit's nose and crashing onto the ground. The potent lightning magic dispersed the dark sorcery.

Laxus ripped apart the photo and took a step forward.

He crackled with fierce yellow lightning, reminiscent of Natsu's fire magic.
Of course, he too was a dragon slayer.
Jose's expression turned serious.
Laxus possessed formidable offensive capabilities but lacked finesse in combat. With his extensive combat experience, Jose believed he could overcome him.

Laxus hesitated, glanced at the bewildered Jose, and ultimately decided. His magical power surged, transforming into thunder, and surged forward.
Everit unleashed his magic at full throttle, nearly causing Jose to engage in a mental battle while his physical form remained motionless.
Yet, despite Laxus' overt display of thunderous magic hurtling toward Jose, he sensed it and 'awakened.'
As Jose realized he had been deceived and broke free from the magical influence, he sensed the intense thunder-based magic looming over him.
"Thunder Dragon's - Collapsing Fist!"
"Dead Wave!"
'Boom'
Two immense magical forces collided, sending both combatants hurtling backward simultaneously.
Everit had already anticipated this move and swiftly countered with a three-second Virtual Flash.
The 'Om' flash surrounded Jose, but in the next moment, it was dispersed by darkness.
Everit deftly evaded the attack.
'Boom boom boom'
Simultaneously dodging, the spot where Everit had just been standing was obliterated by a succession of dark magic explosions.
Laxus swiftly adjusted his stance and charged towards Jose once more.
Employing his tried-and-tested tactics once again - Everit used magic to manipulate Jose's perception once more.
This time it was dangerously close.
Jose reacted, but couldn't keep up in time.
"The Roar of the Thunder Dragon!"
Laxus unleashed his lightning roar upon Jose!
'Huh'
A dark silhouette trailed a thick plume of smoke as it plummeted rapidly from the sky.
It was Jose.
His once splendid mage robe now lay in tatters, his hat missing, covered in soot, with remnants of thunder and lightning crackling around him.
Despite his embarrassment, before he could even recompose himself, Everit's explosion shot struck him squarely in front.
'Boom'
A direct hit!
Laxus relentlessly pursued victory once more!
"Kids, don't get too cocky!"
Jose bellowed furiously, unleashing a series of black magic combos that targeted both Everit and Laxus simultaneously.
Expanding in a wide radius, it pushed Everit back.
While its range was limited, its potency was undeniable, striking Laxus with full force.

As Everit retreated to avoid the onslaught of dark magic, Laxus too was knocked back by Jose's attack. In the blink of an eye, Jose appeared before Laxus.

Laxus was taken aback!

"Missed?" Jose frowned, "At that moment, the magical lock was lost. The Thunderbolt kid, a proud individual, actually put his trust in that deceitful kid."

At that crucial moment, Laxus had placed his trust in Everit to save him, hence he had deliberately condensed all his magical power.
Everit proved himself worthy of his reputation. With his mastery over magic, he outwitted Jose, giving Laxus the chance to slip away from pursuit.

"Thinking of using that against me?" Jose couldn't detect Laxus's magic anymore. He smirked, remarking, "You two are quite clever."
"But you have a glaring weakness that needs addressing."
"And it's just—"
"Not powerful enough!"

Jose unleashed his magic with full force.
The immense magical pressure of a Wizard Saints-tier mage sent shockwaves through the spectators!
Fear gripped everyone in the Phantom Lord Headquarters!
Black mist emanated from Jose's hands, shrouding the entire guild building in darkness so thick that visibility was nonexistent.
Jose was cloaked in the sinister aura of dark magic.
Laxus tightened his fists, suppressing the surge of his own magic power.
He had to trust Everit, despite his disdain for the guy.
"Thirty steps to the left."
Laxus followed the whispered instructions without hesitation.
"Did you move?" Jose materialized in front of Laxus in an instant!

Laxus had no choice but to unleash his magic, dispersing the enveloping black mist and retaliating with a swift punch.
But Jose, seizing the opportunity of surprise and his seasoned expertise, launched a follow-up attack seamlessly merged with the first.
Although Laxus managed to evade the initial strike, the second one caught him off guard!

Laxus was sent hurtling backward.
Everit swiftly cast his magic, but its deceptive nature, though unaffected by sheer strength, faltered in the face of disruption caused by unusual circumstances.
For instance, fluctuations in the magnetic field interfering with natural magic, or Jose's creation of the black mist, effectively transforming the surroundings into a domain that greatly disturbed all external magic, including Everit's deception magic.
"I've got you now," Jose declared, fixing his gaze on Laxus with a grin.
Momentarily freed from the effects of Everit's deception, Jose pursued Laxus relentlessly.
Yet, Everit dared not make a move, knowing that any action on his part would prompt Jose to swiftly turn and strike.
"Sharp kid, you catch on fast," Jose remarked. "Anything stirring within the black mist will be detected by me directly. Though it drains quite a bit of magic power, I must admit, little deceiver, you're worth it. I'll do this."
"Curses!" Laxus exploded with a frightening surge of magic, unleashing thousands of thunderbolts that momentarily overwhelmed Jose's black mist magic.
However, Jose's black mist magic would soon make a resurgence.
Yet, this brief window was enough.
Everit's magic redirected Jose, leading him astray and allowing Laxus to slip out of the crisis.
"Everit," Laxus addressed, "I've never been defeated by an enemy, and neither have you."
"Indeed, we won't lose," Everit affirmed.
"Three minutes," Laxus declared, unwavering.
"Ah, right," Everit seemed a bit taken aback, lowering his gaze.
It appears that confronting Jose is putting immense pressure on Laxus.
"The time that truly decides the outcome of the battle is actually less than a minute," Everit remarked.
