Chapitre 54: Chapter 54 Purchasing New Gu!
Xuanyuan had accumulated quite a number of completed Gu recipes and primeval essence stones since the end of the new disciple tournament. It had been about thirty days since the end of the tournament and already a new batch of disciples had been inducted into the Ancient Soul Sect, signifying Xuanyuan's graduation from an initial disciple.
As a Rank 2 Gu Master, Xuanyuan was given a dozen primeval essence stones every week for his cultivation. Elder Luo gave Xuanyuan a hundred primeval essence stones when he broke through to Rank 2, most of which he spent eagerly cultivating to the Middle Stage of Rank 2.
With the Rank 3 Heavenly Essence Treasure Lotus, Xuanyuan produced fifty primeval essence stones a day, over the course of a month accumulating more than 1,500 primeval essence stones! In the past, Xuanyuan would have had to sell two Rank 1 Gu recipes to accumulate 2,500 primeval essence stones, but even after just sitting around for thirty days, Xuanyuan accumulated more than half of that amount!
Xuanyuan had in his hands the recipes for Rank 1 Dancing Shadow Gu, Rank 1 Splitting Shadow Gu, Rank 1 Forging Shadow Gu, and most recently, Rank 1 Black Shroud Gu and Rank 1 Green Shadow Gu.
All of these formerly incomplete Gu recipes were quite simple, not even requiring ten ingredients to create each Gu, the difficulty of which only laid in deducing which ingredient should be used to complete the recipe, not the type of material or the refinement method required to refine the Gu.
Xuanyuan let out a breath of fresh air, knowing that these Gu wouldn't be as difficult to refine as his Nine Eyes Shadow Gu. In fact, he actually questioned the methods he used during the refinement process of his Nine Eyes Shadow Gu, finding a few steps which could be improved upon using his Master level attainment.
The Nine Eyes Shadow Gu possessed a single effect which had several positive side effects which benefited a Gu Master. It gave his shadow the qualities of "eyes", allowing Xuanyuan to peer through the eyes of his shadow as if it where his own.
It also passively enhanced his eyesight tremendously, in addition to his physicality, albeit not to the extend of White Boar Gu or Black Boar Gu. Any Gu which used Xuanyuan's shadow as a conduit would be strengthened as a result of Nine Eyes Shadow Gu as well.
The abilities of the Nine Eyes Shadow Gu didn't benefit any Rank 2 Gu, however that was to be expected of a Rank 1 Gu. Still, Xuanyuan created the recipe without a Master level attainment in the Shadow Path, and now that he had one, he constantly thought of methods to enhance or refine the Gu further.
Xuanyuan visited the Refinement Soul Hall, handing four of his five completed Gu recipes to Elder Gong, who grinned at Xuanyuan, patting him on the back and rewarding him with 8,000 primeval essence stones!
"Little Yuan, if you ever want to join my Refinement Soul Hall, all you need to do is ask, and I'll fight tooth and nail for you! Old Luo may be your Master, but with your talent, you could just as easily achieve great things in the Refinement Soul Hall! Perhaps even more than in the Earth Soul Hall!".
Xuanyuan could only give Elder Gong a wry smile, bowing deeply as he placed the bags of primeval essence stones in his Shadow Pocket Gu. Xuanyuan had prepared a large bag to store his Gu materials in, but kept his primeval essence stones safely hidden away within his shadow.
While the Gu recipes for the Rank 1 Dancing Shadow Gu and Rank 1 Splitting Shadow Gu were only 1,500 primeval essence stones each, the Rank 1 Black Shroud Gu and the Rank 1 Green Shadow Gu were worth 2,500 primeval essence stones each!
Black Shroud Gu could shroud the physical body in their own shadow, almost perfectly blending in with surrounding darkness. This Gu had absolutely no effect in the light, however during the night time, Black Shroud Gu possessed extraordinarily high concealment abilities! It's weakness to light were offset by its powers in the shadows.
Green Shadow Gu on the other hand, added the concept of "wood" to a Gu Master's shadow. It have their shadow a slightly green quality to it, and enhanced the effectiveness of all Wood Path Gu that a Gu Master used.
It was extremely beneficial to the Wood Soul Hall, which Xuanyuan had no doubt would spend thousands of primeval essence stones in order to refine.
Xuanyuan sold his own Green Shadow Gu in Earth Soul City, obtaining another four hundred primeval essence stones for it. He couldn't use Green Shadow Gu so long as Nine Eyes Shadow Gu affected his shadow, so it was pointless trying to keep it.
Over the course of several hours, Xuanyuan accumulated roughly 11,000 primeval essence stones. His eyes bulged at the sheer number of primeval essence stones in his shadow, and he unconsciously gulped, feeling the weight of his wealth on his shoulders.
"Even Fang Yuan needed to become a Rank 3 Gu Master before he accumulated more than ten thousand primeval essence stones. I am still a Middle Stage Rank 2 Gu Master, and yet here I am, possessing a wealth beyond that of even Tai Yin or Song Pei...".
Xuanyuan let out a sigh, removing those thoughts from his heart. While he knew these primeval essence stones could allow him to live a comfortable life in the Ancient Soul Sect for several years, he knew from experience that strength was more important.
If Xuanyuan did not have the appropriate strength, how could he be expected to keep his wealth? If he did not have the appropriate strength, how could he expect to earn more wealth? Without strength, a Gu Master was nothing special.
Xuanyuan purchased a Rank 1 Two Gu, a Rank 1 Light Swallowing Toad, Rank 1 Empty Qi Gu, Rank 1 Strong Gu, and a Rank 1 Stepping Shadow Gu.
He had made sure to purchase an addition copy of each, with the sole exception of the Stepping Shadow Gu.
These four Rank 1 Gu together cost Xuanyuan roughly 2,000 primeval essence stones, the Rank 1 Stepping Shadow Gu costing the most at 400 primeval essence stones. The Rank 1 Stepping Shadow Gu could be used to "step" to a nearby shadow within five meters with a speed similar to teleportation.
Xuanyuan lacked a proper movement type Gu, and for the time being, settled on the Rank 1 Stepping Shadow Gu. It would be enough for the time being, and Xuanyuan needed other more important Gu before leaving on this expedition.
With roughly 9,000 primeval essence stones left, Xuanyuan purchased a few Rank 2 Gu as well.
Rank 2 Blade Shadow Gu, which was similar in concept to Tai Yin's Sword Shadow Gu, but instead produced blade shadows which possessed a smaller area of effect and a longer range. It was a Blade Path Gu, but Xuanyuan picked it due to its immense offensive capabilities, even more than his Rank 2 Dense Shadow Blade Gu.
It cost Xuanyuan 1,500 primeval essence stones.
Rank 2 Solid Shadow Gu, which temporarily solidified Xuanyuan's shadow, allowing it to touch physical objects. It had quite an extreme primeval essence cost, and would only be used as a trump card during fights.
It cost Xuanyuan another 2,000 primeval essence stones.
Rank 2 Rising Shadow Wall Gu which summoned a wall of tangible shadows before a Gu Master. The wall itself lasted roughly thirty seconds and could withstand a few blows before shattering.
It cost Xuanyuan 1,500 primeval essence stones.
It left Xuanyuan with roughly 4,200 primeval essence stones left. Which Xuanyuan then used to purchase a combination of two Gu, which he himself best suited his current Rank 2 Gu Master cultivation.
Rank 2 Strength Path Dark Muscles Gu.
Rank 2 Bone Path Light Bones Gu.
From Xuanyuan's understanding of the Gu, as well as the explanation that the female clerk had given him, Light Bones Gu was a Strength Path Gu which transformed a Gu Masters bones into Light Bones.
Light Bones emitted faint motes of light which enhanced the strength of all Light Path Gu that a Gu Master used. The motes of light were universal, capable of affecting a myriad number of different types of Light Gu, even ones with strange qualities like Sanguine Light Gu and Evergarden Light Gu.
While Dark Muscles Gu transformed a Gu Master's muscles into Dark Muscles.
Dark Muscles increased the strength of a Gu Master's muscles to a point where their strength could overwhelm most at the same Rank. It increased physical strength by a large margin, but still somewhat increased speed and endurance, albeit to a lesser extent.
Dark Muscles also had a slight resistance to corrosive effects such as acids and poisons, but could only increase it minutely, slowing down the effects not curing the underlying problem.
Each Gu was 2,000 primeval essence stones each, and dropped Xuanyuan's savings from 4,000 primeval essence stones, all the way down barely a dozen.
Xuanyuan originally wanted to purchase a Rank 2 Shadow Bones Gu and a Rank 2 Shadow Muscles Gu but his intuition spiked the moment he saw the Light Bones Gu and the Dark Muscles Gu. It didn't give him any insight into future refinements of either Gu, but he subconsciously knew that these two would be better for him in the long run.
Xuanyuan wanted to purchase a Rank 3 Spirit Tree Dwelling, which was similar to a Rank 3 Three Star Cave, but when he saw the 10,000 primeval essence stone price tag placed beside it, he frowned, instantly forgetting about it.
The Rank 3 Spirit Tree Dwelling was a unique house type Gu which, when exposed to a Gu Master's primeval essence grew and expanded to the size of a four story tall tree dwelling. The huge tree possessed an extremely large and thick canopy which could resist the wind and rain.
It grew hundreds of vines from its branches, obscuring the tree itself from a distance. In addition, these vines produced flowers which emitted a sickly smelling scent, discouraging predators from coming too close.
The bark of the Spirit Tree Dwelling produced a type of sap which absorbed the scent preventing it from entering the dwelling itself. With four stories, the bottom floor of the Spirit Tree Dwelling was open and spacious and could be filled with mortal amenities.
Every floor above the bottom floor contained four rooms, allowing up to twelve Gu Masters to reside there comfortably.
The Spirit Tree Dwelling could not store other Gu, but it could store Gu materials and mortal flora. It wasn't as powerful as Lu Guo's Rank 2 Pocket Jellyfish with ten cubic meters of space which could store Gu, but considering it was a Rank 3 Gu house type Gu, it was still extraordinarily valuable.
Xuanyuan had never even thought about the concepts of house type Gu before, and wondered if they were naturally occurring or the product of some ingenious Gu Master's design.
House type Gu were most commonly Wood Path, Water Path or Earth Path, but there were always exceptions to this. Xuanyuan had seen one of the many caravans in the Ancient Soul Sect leave Earth Soul City, the Peak Rank 4 Gu Master bringing along his own personal Rank 4 Nine Essence Bone House.
The Nine Essence Bone House could be unfolded to the size of an enormous circus tent. With hundreds of curved bone like spurs and spikes sticking out, even most bird type beasts couldn't land on it without being impaled by the Gu.
Xuanyuan looked down at his shadow wondering if it was possible to create a Shadow Path house type Gu. He didn't even know how regular house type Gu were created, so his intuition didn't spike even as he considered using an already existing Gu.
Suppressing all thoughts of the Spirit Tree Dwelling Xuanyuan returned to the Ancient Soul Sect, almost a dozen new Gu in hand.
Glancing at his Shadow Stinger Gu, Xuanyuan smiled, stroking its tail slightly.
'It's time for you to reach Rank 2 little guy', he thought.
