After ten minutes or so the clamouring of the zombies had gone down, he could only hear a few random footsteps here and there.
Yu Zixin stuffed a few more food articles in his clothes and zipped up
It was time to leave this place.
As soon as he stood up Lu Narin stood up as well.
He gave her a curious gaze but lowered his head and ignored her. The storeroom door let out a soft creek as it was being opened.
He grimaced slightly. Thankfully that sound had not attracted anything vile.
He slowly walked through the aisle leading to the automatic door.
To his surprise, he heard a clamor behind him.
The girl had stepped on a can and was leaning unsteadily against a snack aisle, clumsily holding her huge backpack.
"don't follow me." He whispered coldly to her and rushed out to the automatic door.
But the girl did not listen at all! She ran after him with a small clang of keys with each step. "Wait please..."
"shh!" he quietly garbed her hand.
Two zombies were loitering outside sniffing and growling.
Like frozen statues, they both stood waiting for the creatures to walk past the mini-mart.
The woman poked a hard thing in his back.
Yu Zixin vigilantly glanced back.
"My moped is right there. It's electric. It won't make much sound.... we can take that."
He peered at her with his brows narrowed. 'Why is this girl trying to stick to him? Is it just fear? or…'
The woman's clear pair of eyes looked up at him. "I won't be a bother... so please… take me with you. Please..." she tugged at his hand.
Yu Zixin felt a bit of pity. "If... if you listen to every single command, I will take you. But you have to be silent. If you even make a small sound, I will leave you"
"I'm okay with it!" she smiled dazzlingly up at him.
For a second Yu Zixin felt his heartbeat accelerate.
He pulled his hand hurriedly out of her grip and they both walked out slowly and soundlessly to the small moped parked right in front of the mini-mart.
The girl handed him the keys.
It started soundlessly. Which was perfect.
'Maybe taking her along was not so bad after all…' he thought as he slowly drove out of the alleyway way.
Two zombies spotted them and rushed toward them.
Yu Zixin sped up into the main road leading toward the outskirts of the city.
But all of a sudden, there was a loud clang up ahead. A huge rock hid the stop sign in front of them. The zombies that had been loitering around all heard this sound and rushed out of their hiding spots lining up on their path.
Gritting his teeth Yu Zixin had to turn back and drive in the opposite direction he had intended to.
The crowd of zombies rushed after them.
a snake head popped out from his collar. "Yunfeng this is your chance. Go kill them all and level up ah!"
"Shut it," he shoved it down and drove faster towards the main roads.
It was fucking filled with zombies. Every time he tried to take a turn and get back on his path, a sound or something disrupted the zombies, making him go in the completely opposite direction.
It was all thanks to his luck point that he was even able to escape such an intense crowd of zombie. Every time he escaped a massive group of zombies pushed and stabbed them. He found out that his luck value went down by one.
In just ten minutes he had already lost six points from his luck point leaving it with a balance or two.
They had already driven to the main part of the city.
"There, take a left! Hurry!" the girl patted his back desperately. "Come on, they are close!!"
The moped swerved taking a sharp right turn and leading them to an underground parking lot.
"Stop by the gate!"
"What? are you crazy?!"
"I can close the shutters!"
That seemed like a good plan. So, Yu Zixin stopped by the gate and the girl jumped off closing the gutter.
The zombies rushing after them all slammed against the shutter loudly.
"Come on let's go in," Lu Narin patted his back desperately as soon as she jumped onto the back seat of the moped.
Yu Zixin frowned slightly. being in an underground parking lot was not a good location. But the good thing was that there was always another exit that led them out of there.
As he drove over to that area, the woman shouted loudly for him to stop.
"What now?" he glanced back at her.
"We shouldn't go out now. W-why don't we hide here for a while? W-we need rest. This place seems empty… it's safe, right?"
Yu Zixin did not move. He peered at her silently. "This place looks safe to you. Those things will break down that shutter in minutes. If you want to stay here, it's your wish. I..."
"Oh no!" she grabbed his hand. "let's go! They are coming from the other side!" she shouted and dragged him over to the elevator.
Yu Zixin glanced back. He did not see even a shadow of zombies coming behind them. "You!"
Before he could finish his sentence, he was slammed into the elevator. The doors closed in front of his face.
He coldly peered at Lu Narin who was panting loudly.
"Be thankful I saved your ass." She grinned up at him. "Ah those things could have torn us apart," she said, stretching her back.
"What zombie? I didn't see anything following us."
Lu Narin visibly froze. "I-I saw it. maybe you did not see it there. It was hiding behind the ambulances. that's why…."
"The ambulance..." Yu Zixin realized something. "The ambulance! why didn't I realize it? fuck!!" he slammed the elevator walls. "You led me here! you deliberately led me to a fucking hospital!!"
Every time he had wanted to turn back to his original route, some kind of sound disrupted his plan and zombie rushed after them. Till now he had thought it was a coincidence, but now he knew. He knew that it was not.
He pulled the small bag she gripped in her hand. A few round white pebbles fell down clattering on the ground.
'This was all premeditated by this fucking woman!'
"You. You throw those stones! You wanted me here! why> this is a fucking hospital do you not know how many fucking patients get admitted here during new Year! This is a fucking death maze!!! And you fucking pulled me into it! why?!!"
Lu Narin lowered her head and whimpered when he walked close.
He connected all the dots. It all made sense.
This girl was replacing her dad's shift in the shop because he had an injury.
It was likely that he was admitted here.
She must have been fearful of coming here alone, so she hid in that storeroom planning. She planned it all out. she waited until he was close to pulling him into this shit.
All she needed was a meat shield.
He just walked right into her trap.
Yunfeng hurriedly pressed the stop button halting the elevator that was going to the third floor.
"Why did you stop it? we can just go and bring him back. It will only take us ten minutes! Just ten minutes." She frantically ran to the controls.
But he grabbed her and pushed her away to the other corner. "If you dare touch that I will snap your fingers. Hear me." Taking a deep breath, he calmed himself.
He wanted to just get off this elevator and leave. but he was not sure if that shutter was intact in the basement parking or not.
The floor pan of this hospital and the respective wards was clearly printed on the elevator.
'First floor was the emergency patient ward and the most crowded one would be this. the second was the pediatric ward.'
'The pediatric ward…. It's just children. Even if they became zombies, I can just push them away and run away.'
most level 1 zombies still held the strength they had when they were humans. By luck, the children zombies must be the weakest.
The second floor seemed the optimal option. Even if he got into a dangerous situation, he could simply jump out the window. He might break a bone or so but he was willing to pay the price for his own stupidity.
He pressed the second-floor button and started the elevator again.
"You…. You won't come with me?"
"Not a word… if you come in front of me again, I will kill you." He growled out loudly.
The girl stepped back, whimpering and sobbing.
The second floor came in no time. He hurriedly got off. Just as he did, the girl ran to the elevator controls and closed the door behind him.
He scoffed. 'What did I expect? Human heart is the hardest to guess.'
