Vinn saw Pete outside, just in front of the door, the moment she stormed out of Lord Albridge's room.

He was holding a pot of hot water, and had been there, waiting.

Going by how soundproof the castle was, Vinn was sure that Pete hadn't heard anything they said in the room. But she wondered if he knew just how mentally deranged his father was; unable to distinguish between right and wrong, or enemy and friend.

It took her a moment to notice that her other siblings were now there; Fred and Cleo.

They were looking at her with disdain, but Vinn barely reacted to the hatred on their faces as she made to leave.
