Chapitre 7: FLASHBACK: TEN YEARS AGO

"You can't be serious, Jesse! I can't protect you and the girl if you leave Beacon Hills!", an exasperated Cahira Maolán tried to reason with her son.

Unfortunately for her, the stubborn father had already made up his mind. He couldn't risk the life of his daughter after what happened in the woods. He managed to convince his wife that it was an animal attack, a bear to be more specific, but as for his little girl, he knew Lorelai was smarter than that.

He had been on edge since she was discharged from hospital, and when he suggested they move out of Beacon Hills, Rachel didn't even hesitate. They were going to leave tonight, he just had to tie up some loose ends.

"It's the only way to keep Lorelai safe. We're just lucky it was a beta who found her!", Jesse exclaimed as he ran his fingers through his hair in frustration before turning around to face his mother.

"Listen, Jesse, I get where you're coming from, but-".

"No. No you don't. If you have any motherly instinct left in that body of yours, then you'll really understand why we have to go!".

"What do you think I've been doing all these years, huh? There's a reason why she hasn't found you or Lorelai yet! And you know that if you leave, power hungry Alphas would be the least of your problems!".

They both stared at each other in silence, Jesse clenching his fists in anger. He was about to retaliate, but the voice of his daughter calling out brought him back to his senses.

"Can I at least say goodbye to her?", Cahira asked softly.

Hesitantly, he nodded before allowing her to go upstairs. The tired woman treaded lightly, silently beating herself up for pulling away from her son after that unfortunate accident tore their family apart. Shaking off the bad memories, she pushed open the door which led to her granddaughter.

Lorelai's bright green eyes looked up at her curiously as she entered the room, Jesse right behind her. Cahira swore she could almost feel the immense power radiating off the little girl. Maybe it was a good thing they were leaving…

"Honey, this is…", Jesse cleared his throat before introducing Cahira to Lorelai.

He had tried his best to keep Lorelai far away from his side of the family, knowing well that a relationship with them would inevitably end with someone dying- his father was one of the unfortunate examples. He only allowed his mother to see Lorelai once, and that was on the day of her birth.

"This is Cahira, she's an old family friend.".

Cahira's heart dropped after Jesse introduced her to Lorelai. She could understand his reason, but it didn't make it hurt any less.

"Hello Lorelai. It's lovely to meet you.", she said with a small smile.

The little girl tilted her head, as if she was trying to place where she had seen Cahira before. Cahira tried to hold back her tears as she approached Lorelai, taking a seat next to her. Jesse stayed where he was, leaning against the doorframe.

"Cahira? That's a strange name…", the young girl blurted out.

Cahira chuckled while Jesse raised his eyebrows at his daughter's abruptness. When Cahira's gaze fell to Lorelai's bandaged arm, she frowned. Because of the girl's human mother, her abilities were somehow dormant- that's why she didn't heal immediately.

"I wanted to tell you how special you truly are. Just like your father…", Cahira whispered to Lorelai, gently squeezing her shoulder.

"You should go, Rachel will be home soon.", Jesse retorted before Lorelai could ask any questions.

The young girl stared at her grandmother in confusion, remembering how her father was able to throw a boulder at the monster who attacked her that night without touching it. There was something different about the woman who was sitting next to her, something familiar, and something… Something magical…

Cahira noticing the girl's confusion, gave her a quick hug before adding that it will all make sense one day. She had a feeling that this was going to be the last time they were going to see each other, and she didn't want to waste this opportunity to spark something inside Lorelai's inquisitive mind.

Jesse ushered Cahira out of his daughter's room, scowling hard.

"Why the hell would you say something like that to her?", he demanded as they hurried down the stairs.

"If you think you can hide this from her, you're delusional!", Cahira shot back, her Irish accent thick.

"Sooner or later, she's going to come for you. And Lorelai… You cannot run from the past forever…", she warned before leaving.
