Before she could clear the misunderstanding, she heard a curt,
"Get into the car."
"Huh?"
"Do you need me to repeat myself?"
Grace was extremely reluctant and for once was prepared to flog it out with him. There is no way she was going to abandon Wendy at this point, not when she was already a few minutes walk from her location. She must see Wendy today. She didn't mind if she was fired, but she also hoped it didn't get to that point.
"But I can't do that, Sir. My friend needs me badly. Her mother…"
When Jace heard "her mother" his expression suddenly toned down a bit but he still ordered.
"Whatever happened to her mother, the doctors can take care of it. Now get into the car."
"That's the problem, sir," Grace said, her previous worries returning.
"And what's that supposed to mean?" Jace asked, wondering why she was being so stubborn. Was this woman seriously arguing with him here?
