2.32% A Husband For The NANNY / Chapter 7: Many Fishes In The River.

Chapitre 7: Many Fishes In The River.

Grace didn't know how she found herself downstairs and in her favorite spot at the park after leaving the conference room of Brandon Corporation.

She was so engrossed in a conversation with herself— a rather strange habit she had formed over the years of talking to herself as if she was having a one on one conversation with someone else since the friends she had could be counted on the fingers on one hand, that she forgot to check on Wendy to tell her about the outcome of the interview.

"Wake up, wake up, butthead! Whatcha doing butthead!"

The characteristic ringing tone of her phone made her remember Wendy.

Without glancing at the screen, she knew the caller and the first thing that came out from her mouth when she picked up was,

"Isn't that man so full of himself?"

"What man?" Wendy asked in confusion.

"Your so-called CEO of course," Grace snapped impatiently.

"You didn't get the job?"

"Of course I got hired," Grace sneered mockingly.

"That's great news. It calls for a celebra…" Wendy trailed off as she suddenly sensed something wrong.

Her friend that she knows would have given her a call immediately she was done with the interview if she had gotten the job but in this case, she had to call her after hearing that the interview had been over for over an hour.

"What happened? What are you not telling me, Grace?"

"Who does he think he is and what qualifications does his so-called son have to make me, Grace, who had come out top in my set with a masters degree in designing, stoop as low as becoming a common nanny? Nah! That's preposterous."

Wendy couldn't help but burst into laughter. "Nanny?! Tell me you're joking!" she said, trying her best to stifle another bout of laughter from bursting forth.

"I mean of all the degrading positions in the world, your almighty boss hired me as a Nanny to his son!"

"How can this life be so cruel?" she lamented. "Just because he is a CEO, he thinks he can just draft people's life away as he pleases. And the best place he felt my piece was worth was in the position of his son's nanny. "Ah! Grace, you are so pathetic!" She lamented.

Wendy listened sympathetically in silence as Grace poured out her heart over the phone.

"I'm sorry about that, girlfriend. But you know what? This is not the end of the world, right? If you could survive that monster, called a step father, surely you would this time around,"

Wendy finally got a chance to offer her consolation.

"Yeah! That's right. It's time to restrategize, afterall there are so many fishes in the river. But first I need to top up my tank with a little fuel for the journey ahead."

"See you when I see you," she said and hung up before Wendy could say anything else.

With that, she got up, dusted off some grasses on her dress and walked down the road to hail a taxi to the grocery store close to her house.

Two hours later, the aroma of herbs and spices filled the air as Grace placed a steaming bowl of rice topped with stir fried vegetables on her cozy dining table.

She relished the savory taste of the simple dish, satisfied with her culinary skills.

Cooking had always been her way of clearing her mind and finding clarity in moments of uncertainty, so over time, she had garnered more skills from constant practice as her life has been full of many uncertainties.

After eating, she went to work immediately. She was not someone to remain down for long, mulling over what might have been.

The first thing she did was browse through her phones for some companies that were hiring.

With the information she got, she quickly sent her resume to those that were related to her field of study and took note of the ones that she had applied to before and had sent her invitation for an interview.

Meanwhile at Brandon Corporation, a little boy was throwing a tantrum and two handsome adults were trying their best to pacify him.

One was a tousle haired man with a boyish charm and the other a cold faced equally handsome man with ocean blue eyes.

"Pumpkin, you have to take it easy. We will get someone else for you," Caden coaxed.

His words ended up increasing Charles's rocking movement, causing his father whose eyes were trained on him to almost go dizzy.

Jace ran a hand through his hair in exasperation. "Charles, if you want daddy to get her for you, you have to behave yourself, otherwise you would be stuck with Russell," he threatened.

His father's threat seemed to have some effect as Charles's movements slowed down considerably, but the next minute, large teardrops started rolling down his flushed cheeks.

"Brother, you don't have to be so harsh on him," Caden whispered, his heart hurting at the state his little nephew was in.

"What else do you expect me to do? I cannot force the young lady against her wish."

Caden was stunned. Was there anything his brother could not do? This was the first time he was hearing him admitting defeat and to a mere woman for that matter.

"Don't tell me you don't know how to get such a simple problem solved, brother."

"Maybe you should give it a try yourself," Jace suggested.

"Why are you pushing it to me? As his father, shouldn't you be the one to handle this?" Caden fired back.

"And what are you his uncle for? Is it too much as an uncle to solve such a "simple problem" for your acclaimed nephew?" Jace retorted. "Being an uncle goes beyond posing proudly with a title, you know."

"I'm not falling for your emotional blackmail this time around," Caden quickly said.

"As a matter of fact, you should be the one handling this, after all you caused it?" Jace pointed out.
