We could still hear the music as we walked, its reverberating rhythm spreading throughout the ballrooms. It sounded better from this distance, where we were far enough away that the blaring noise wouldn't deafen our eardrums. The notes softened and carried prettily to my ears. Romantic and soothing.

Hael stopped and squeezed my hand, so I finally pulled my eyes ahead—I had only focused on him and the music during our walk—to a lovely picnic setup. Colorful blankets. Baskets of food. Lanterns emitting a mild, soothing glow. There was even a lake that I would not have known about had I not come here. A bridge sat across it that I felt compelled to cross.

I turned to Hael with a smile, and he was kneeling.

My smile fell as confusion took over. "Hael, what are you doing?"
