McGonagall stared at Thane with wide eyes for a second before a smile spread across her face, and she laughed, "Oh, that's funny. You truly had me for a moment. Now, enough joking. Did you manage to find all your supplies? I hope you did. School starts tomorrow, and I doubt you'll have time to return to Diagon Alley until the weekend. Not having the right books would be a poor way to start the year."

Instead of responding, Thane reached into his robes and pulled out a folded piece of parchment that he handed to the Professor, "What's this?"

McGonagall peered down at the letter, frowning as the tiny script eluded her aging vision and even more so at the archaic English. But as the Professor deciphered the letter's wording, her eyes slowly widened, and when she reached the end of the parchment, they were as big as saucers.

With a snap, McGonagall's head shot up to stare at Thane with almost crazed eyes, "If this is still part of your joke, I'll ensure that you regret it."

"There was never a joke, to begin with, Professor," Thane replied as he reached out and took the official decree from her limp grasp before neatly folding it and stowing it away, "A message has already been sent to all the Houses, and I imagine my name will be in the papers by tomorrow morning."

McGonagall slowly started shaking her head, "W-why would you do something like this? Do you have any idea of the consequences your actions will have?"

"I will be granted a seat at Wizengamot with seven votes. I am also now, for all applicable purposes, an adult." Thane replied smoothly, which only caused McGonagall's disbelief to turn into anger, "This isn't some game, young man. You have no idea what you're getting yourself into. The fact that the Ministry even approved of it in the first place is sheer madness."

Thane smiled, "Madam Bones did take some convincing, but she had no grounds to reject my claim. But even then, in some ways, I'm just as surprised as you are, Professor."

McGonagall stared at Thane as if seeing him in a new light, "How long have you been planning this?"

"Quiet some time," Thane admitted, "In all honesty, I didn't plan to set things into motion so soon, but I have a feeling things will only become increasingly chaotic in the following years."

McGonagall opened her mouth with a start, only to pause as a series of details suddenly connected in her mind, 'Thane went missing the same day that Hermione, Ron, and Harry discovered Quirell was trying to steal the Philosopher stone...but the story never made sense. How could three first-years defeat a Defense Against the Dark Arts professor?'

Seeing McGonagalls contemplative look, Thane's eyes narrowed, 'She's finally growing suspicious of me, too bad. Short of killing me, there's nothing she can do to stop me. Even if she can somehow prove I was involved with the stone ordeal, the worst is I get expelled, which is hardly the end of the world.'

McGonagall continued to meet Thane's gaze as her eyes hardened, "I'll give you one chance to be honest with me, Thane; lie now, and you'll lose my support forever."

Thane's smile dipped, "I'm not beholden to you, Professor, and if I ever needed your support, it certainly isn't right now. I'm afraid I've been forced to stand on my own for the past year, and now I plan to start walking."

McGonagall sniffed at Thane's reply, "Very well, then you shall remain on your own."

At the same time, across Great Britain, every Head of House was awoken by an owl pecking at their bedroom window, holding a decorated envelope within its claws. Many responded with annoyance, wondering who dared to send a letter when most were settling in bed. But after seeing the bright red wax seal of the ministry, they were quick to open the window, letting the owl fly into the room and deliver its message. With haste, the Heads of House opened the letter, wondering what matter of such importance could require the ministry to send a notice outside their regular hours. So, with anticipation, they began to read.

'To all the Houses, it is the Ministry's duty and honor to announce that the old rites have been invoked. Today, Britain celebrates the birth of a new House and, with it, a new bloodline. But there is even greater cause for celebration: the Ministry has confirmed over four hundred years of lineage using every resource at its disposal. Henceforth, the British Ministry of Magic recognizes Thane Fae, Head of The Noble and Most Ancient House of Fae. Below, you may find the official House Insignia and a picture of its Head.'

"Have they gone mad?" Lucious muttered angrily as he reached the end of the missive, only to freeze as his eyes fell upon the two images at the bottom of the letter. One was of an intricate silver tree with a wreath of vines forming a circle, which Lucious quickly forgot as he stared at the portrait; at first glance, of a man with long dark brown hair, caramel skin, and piercing green eyes. But at a closer look, there was an unmistakable youth to the boy's face, which would have been the most shocking if not for the fact that Lucious recognized the boy.

"Lucious dear, what's wrong?"

Instead of responding to his wife, Lucious stormed out of his bedroom and down the hall to the end, where he thrust out his hand, blasting the pair of doors open and startling his son Draco wide awake, "Who was that boy you were talking to?!"

"W-what?" Draco stuttered, still half asleep though his heart was racing.

"The boy at Gringotts, the one allowed inside!" Lucious roared, his face flushing red.

"I already told you I don't know why or how Thane was let into the bank. He's a worthless mudblood, no one of importance." Draco replied, shrugging off his father's obvious concern.

"Well, that no one of importance was just announced as the Head of The Noble and Most Ancient House of Fae," Lucious spat as he threw the letter at Draco, who caught it with a confused look that slowly turned into one of disbelief and anger, "T-this c-can't be real...I-it can't be!"

Seeing his son's reaction, Lucious couldn't help but feel a small amount of dread, "Draco, tell me, have you done anything to sour your relationship with this boy?"

The moment his son met his eye, Lucious knew more than Draco could ever tell him with words, and he let out a long, angry sigh of discontent, "This is going to be a nightmare."
