After everyone was placed into their house, the feast began to eat with gusto as the dining hall filled with idle chatter. And even though Thane was restricted to the few platters in front of him not wanting to ask his hostile housemates to pass him a dish, it was one of the best meals he ever had. The food was so good that Thane didn't even mind eating in complete silence isolated from everyone else.

In fact it reminded Thane of his time back at the orphanage, with his constant trips to the head nun's office the rest of the kids at Saint Mary's deemed Thane as a bad luck charm after a few occasional acts of accidental magic.

That memory made Thane pause momentarily, he had taken care to try and make a good first impression with everyone he met. The twins had been a good start, but Thane wondered if they would even talk to him now that he was in Slytherin, 'Hopefully they don't think I'm an asshole.'

Letting out a sigh Thane went back to eating, though the food didn't taste quite as good as before.

Eventually people stopped filling their plates with food and lapsed into conversation, before Dumbledore stood once more and gave a few closing remarks. By that point Thane was stuffed and fighting off a food coma, so he only caught a few snippets which seemed to be rules about where students were allowed inside and outside of the castle.

After that they were dismissed to their dormitories but before Thane could stand up on his own a older girl slytherin raised her hand into the air as she called out, "All first year Slytherins please follow me!"

Being at the very opposite end of the table Thane almost had to run over as the group moved to leave the dining room without him.

Once they were clear from the traffic of people leaving the dining hall the older girl turned around to face them as she continued walking backwards, "Hello everyone I'm Prefect Gemma Farley, and welcome to the most prestigious house in Hogwarts. As you can see by my badge our emblem is the serpent, and our house colors are emerald green and silver. Right now I'll be taking you to our Common Room from which you can access your dormitories."

Trailing at the very back of the group Thane followed along as they descended into the depths of Hogwarts Castle, to the point where the warm candle light and gray bricks were replaced by torches and slick black stone that was damp to the touch.

Eventually Gemma stopped in front of an unassuming wall as she turned to face the group, "While it may not seem like much this is the entrance to the Slytherin common room which can only be accessed by saying the password."

Gemma then turned around to face the wall and whispered just loud enough to be heard, "Pureblood."

The stone wall let out an ominous sound as a portion of the brickwork swung open leaving a rectangular portal for them to enter, "Come along now don't be shy."

Gemma ushered the group through the door though it became notably strained as Thane passed by her. Keeping his head down Thane glanced around the common which was washed in a green light from the massive portholes along the back wall revealing that the common room was built underneath the very same lake Thane had sailed over just hours ago.

Otherwise the common room was decorated with expensive leather furniture all in black leather with silver accents. Thane also spotted more than one statue shaped to resemble a serpentine.

"Tomorrow, you will have potions for your first class which is taught by Professor Snape who also happens to be our Head of House. So make sure you're on time and have at least the most rudimentary knowledge of potions. He'll be sure to award you plenty of points!"

"Well you certainly had an eventful day."

Thane opened his eyes after just closing them to fall asleep only to find Thalion staring down at him from his grand wooden throne, with an unreadable expression.

"Eventful isn't the word I would use," Thane muttered before glancing at the two empty seats at Thalion's side, "Where are Elara and Solara?"

"I asked them to give us a moment of privacy, I wanted to talk with you before your lessons with them," Thalion said as he leaned back in his seat.

"Talk about what?" Thane asked even though he already had a good idea what the Fae king had in mind.

"Your placement in that Slytherin house," Thalion replied as he fixed Thane with an even stare, "Do you wish you would have been placed into a different house?"

"Of course I do!" Thane shouted as his jaw clenched, "You saw how they looked at me."

Thalion dipped his head in acknowledgement, "Yes I did, which is why I'm glad you were placed into that house."

Thane glared at Thalion as he felt something inside of him twinge painfully, "B-but why?"

"Because it will help you grow," Thalion responded as his voice hardened, "The sorting artifact was right Thane, you have the innate qualities of a leader. But you need tempering, and House Slytherin will be the perfect crucible."

Thane blinked as he tried to contain the surge of emotions building up inside him, "That hat was wrong! I'm not a king! And I don't belong with those assholes!"

Thalion pressed his lips into a thin line as he leaned forward and metaphorical fire ignited in his silver eyes, "You sicken me."

Those three words pierced through Thane's heart like a dagger and he trembled from the blow like a leaf in the wind wishing with all his might that he could just vanish into thin air.

"Look at me Thane, for I'll only say this once," Thalion's voice was unyielding like steel and it took all of Thane's strength to raise his head to meet his cold silver eyes, "Perhaps you didn't realize it when we last spoke, but you are the last Fae in all of existence. Our people were loved, feared, and worshiped in one form or another for all of history. We were the first masters of magic and every art form under the sun, our influence was so great that it can be traced across every square foot of this planet! And while those around you do not realize it now every action you take, every word you speak, represents our entire race. And one day when you emerge to claim your rightful place in the world they will reflect on the impression you left in their minds. And with the universe as my witness I will not have it be of a timid child too scared to raise his voice because his robes don't have silver fastenings!"
