His eyes flushed out of emotion as my words gradually sank in. His numb orbs darted to my father and then back at me. Some might say he didn't only appear startled; a keen eye might notice that behind those gray, scaly pupils,he was actually hurt. My eyes saw a bit of that,but he shut me out before I could delve deeper.

"No…no. Kiara, you can't just call off a wedding in a week. That's absurd." The queen said it with a hasty beat in her voice. "We have sent out invites. I got my dress custom-made. I bought a hundred swans…What will the guests say?"

"I was hoping that the decision-making of this marriage would rely more on the shoulders of those getting married and not the guests." I said, giving Adriel another chance to react. To say something. Say anything at this point. I even wanted him to be angry.
