On this day in world history.
It was reported that several gates leading to the first level of hell.
Opened in densely populated areas around the world.
Just to give a small taste of what was to come.
A warning, an opportunity to get ready for the future or be left behind.
Unfortunately for those on Isla Serpiente.
They weren't an exception to the rule, many lives were lost that day.
Only Zinc who never once took his eyes off of Charm saw when she got separated from Brendan.
He noticed that the attention of the Locust General became fixated on Charm.
With that malicious gleam of intent in the sickening creature's eyes.
Zinc was not born without fear.
He willed himself to move from the safety of the cafeteria.
Even as his knees trembled from nervousness and excitement.
As much as he felt the urge to protect himself first.
Zinc ignored it and ran swiftly in the same direction as Charm.
Even though he felt clueless as he ran towards Charm.
He felt foolish.
Zinc had no weapons what could he possibly do to help save Charm.
What propelled him to risk his life tirelessly for Charm.
Who never once thanked him much less paid him any attention?
Instead of coming to his table.
He clenched his fist she had chosen to sit with Brendan and his friends.
To have a seat at the popular table was something he would never hope to dream of or have.
As long as he and Brendan had the same end goal in mind.
The swarm seemed to be getting denser the closer they got to the auditorium.
Swish!
"Wow, what's that!"
A locust came after Zinc again.
He managed to dodge but its sharp claws came pretty close to his head.
It managed to snip off a lock of his hair.
Any slower, if he had not managed to dodge in time.
It would have been his head that would have been separated from his shoulders in one clean sweep.
Did the Locust General have eyes in the back of its head?
How could it have taken notice of Zinc already and deem him a possible threat.
"So close!" exclaimed Zinc.
It sent its underlings after Zinc to take care of him.
The Locust General didn't want any distractions from its meal.
Thank God for what he called his 'spirit eyes'.
It was different from his intuition but it saved his life and helped him to dodge in the nick of time.
He could never explain it and didn't even bother trying.
That it was more than just a hunter's instinct; a part of him he could not control.
It activated only when his life was in danger.
No matter how many times he tried to trigger it himself he could never get it to work.
Under the leadership of the Locust General.
His swarm of mutated insects wreaked havoc and devastation near the vicinity of their gate.
Which happened to open up in close proximity to the auditorium where the insects continued to spread terror throughout the school.
The Principal and his administration staff watched with horror from the Front Office glass windows as they made several calls for help.
Their cries for help were not unheard, they would not have to wait in vain.
The coast guard and several army helicopters carrying soldiers deployed from Costa Rica will take some time to reach the small island.
Everyone felt like help would reach too late.
It was only a matter of time before the inhabitants on the small island were annihilated.
"Open the door!"
Several cries from the leader of the security.
Who finally reached amongst the chaos and confusion to escort the Principal and his staff over to the auditorium.
"Thank God Ken, you are finally here to escort us. What the hell took you so long," exclaimed the Principal.
Before the security guard could answer the Principal was already shorting orders to his team.
"We need you to provide us with cover and protection as we make our way over to the auditorium. How are things out there?" inquired the Principal.
"Our weapons are ineffective," shouted Old Ken Bloomfield, head of campus security to the Principal. "We'll do our best but It's only a matter of time before the team runs out of ammunition."
The Principal and his team fled the Front Office when Locusts started slamming into the glass windows to break it open and get at the humans inside.
The campus patrol seemed understaffed in comparison to the multitude of locusts that were escaping from the gates of hell.
The more they shot down from the sky.
Their numbers didn't dwindle as more locusts escaped from the pits of hell.
As such the security team was unprepared to deal with the enormity of the virulent plague of locusts that seemingly popped out of nowhere.
Not all of the security guards were licensed firearm holders, only a few, the rest of them patrolled with wooden batons.
While those with firearms and tasers found that their weapons had little to no effect on the locusts that swarmed the campus.
"What in the world," the bursar exclaimed, "we just installed those windows last week, this is not in the budget!"
The obese money obsessed man stopped to gawk at the broken windows.
His brain already rapidly estimating the cost of repairs.
He already had a few parents in mind to squeeze money out of for those repairs.
The admin office would need to be repaired everything else after his comfort came first
His white shirt now showed visible sweat stains as this was the most he ever ran his entire life.
The bursar felt like he could pass out, as he panted heavily trying to catch his breath.
"You are worried about money at a time like this," wailed the Principal's secretary.
A small mousy woman, whose thinness became more evident while running beside the bursar.
Both were unfit and not prepared for what happened next.
Spotting the obese man, a splinter of the locusts broke off from the main troupe and made a beeline for the admin team.
