The only thing Seren could feel was cold, but at least her mother was still warm, despite Amane's icy touch.

Seren held her mother in her arms, but she couldn't see anything, couldn't feel anything else—just darkness.

"So, this is how it feels to be devoured by darkness?" she thought, her mind drifting in the vast, empty void.

Her body felt weightless, floating aimlessly in the endless darkness. She tried to make sense of her surroundings, but there was nothing to grasp onto.

She tried to recall how she ended up here. The last thing she remembered was going to Lucien's graduation. Her annoying, little brother who never called her or their parents while he was in college.
