69.56% Rise from the dead as Diablo's Crusader / Chapter 16: Quill Fiends

Chapitre 16: Quill Fiends

Upon blinding them, it was easy work dispatching the wildly flailing Quill Fiends with his blade.

A lesser skilled warrior may or may not have faced more difficulty in killing the wildly flailing monsters since they were as he said.

Wildly flailing.

But it was not really a high obstacle Slade couldn't pass.

So he did it.

And he learnt a few things in the process as well, now having basically stopped his wrath consumption in the Slash skill by reducing it to a negligible consumption.

The bonus stats that he also gained from before he accidentally blinded himself played a part in it as well.

[You have gained 3 strength]

[You have gained 1 Dexterity]

[You have gained 1 Intelligence]

[You have gained 2 Vitality]

Smiling slightly at how limber his body seemed to have become, he also noted how although since he gained new strength out of nowhere and didn't have time to adjust to it there was inevitably a loss in energy.

It wasn't a dangerous problem that he would need to fix any time soon, but when he returned to New Tristam he really needed to acclimate himself to the new strength flowing through his body.

'Anyways, new pants and belt?'

Glancing at the two armour pieces that were laying on the ground at the fall of the final two Quill Fiends, Slade appreciated the fact that the armour manifested through various means instead of appearing as raw materials.

Moving to pick them up, he checked the stats of the armour pieces.

[Adventuring Cloth Pants]

[Monster Kills grant +2 experience.]

[Reptilian Sash]

[Regenerates +1 life per second]

They were both nice things to have that was a definite, and since he really didn't have anything better he moved them into his game system window and watched as they both turned into particles of light and moved to appear at his waist and legs.

Feeling the distinct weight of heavy armor appearing around his thighs and waist, Slade smiled in satisfaction before moving around.

Picking up a stray axe that he had found from nearby, Slade tossed it up and down, causing it to spin in his hands before he threw it straight into the mist surrounding him.

*Grgh!

Lodging straight into the head of a Wretched mother vomiting its guts out in an effort to summon more undead, Slade ran straight in and quickly blinded all of them using the Shield Glare skill.

Having blinded all of them, the undead alongside the Quill fiends that defended the Wretched mother all fell into large chunks of torn flesh and bone.

Scorching the wounds that his blade inflicted on the body of the large lumbering Walking corpse, a stab into the gut followed by a brief burst of flame set the monster alight from within.

'No thank you and good bye.'

Gutting the Walking corpse, the lumbering giant of pale skin fell over backwards and slammed into the ground with great concussive force.

Following that, Slade spun around in a pirouette to easily sink the edges of the blade straight through the bony skull of the Quill Fiend.

Something he really didn't want to happen but accidentally did let happen in the heat of battle.

Frowning, Slade ripped the sword out of the corpses undead grasp and looked at the edge of the blade that was most obviously dented.

Something that would've inevitably happened if it ever so slightly hit the bone, but it hadn't happened so far because of his skills.

But it still happened either way due to unforseeable circumstances.

'The usage of the blade is slightly worse now.'

With the blade now partially dulled and even dented in some areas, the quality of the blade had significantly dropped.

If before when he first got the blade it was able to slice through flesh like a hot knife through butter, it was now something he had to put more force in as if trying to slice a tomato with a hand.

Definitely possible, but the results and efforts weren't exactly proportional as the results would have the blade deteriorating even faster.

Frowning at the thought, Slade let out a sigh and unhesitatingly threw the blade away.

At the end of the day, it was just a blade that he had just picked up from somewhere he didn't recall.

And the purpose of a sword in the first place was to be used like a tool.

Of course, don't get him wrong, there are times where it was better to keep a weapon to have it be repaired later due to the quality of it or its effects.

But the sword he picked up didn't have any of those functions being the common mass produced iron sword it is.

Not on the level of the alloyed metals that his combat knives used to be made out of since the average level of smithing in this world was low.

But that didn't mean that there weren't better options

But right now in the present time, it was more cost effective to use a new weapon instead of sticking to a sword that he had only used for a few hours before it dulled.

His skills and experience allowed it after all.

And on the bright side of things, even if he was throwing away a sword that he had gotten used to for a small while, there was a much more appealing looking shield resting on the ground.

And already when he picked it up, with the blue background resting behind it, he knew that it was better then his current shield.

The stats spoke for themselves although the armor rating was slightly worse than before.

[Reptilian Buckler]

[+13% chance to block]

[7-12 block amount]

[Regenerates +1 life per second]

[- 1% toughness]

[+ 50% healing]

Much like the rest of the reptilian set, the shield also had the primary effect of regenerating a bit of health every second.

And since it was a buckler, the round shield was definitely much smaller than the shield that he currently was using and the stat changes it provided showed that fact.

But it didn't change a few things, the skill and experience that Slade had already built up in his times as a special forces officer.

He definitely had the experience needed for this type of thing.

Unhesitatingly changing his equipment, Slade felt a subtle change occur in his body.

It was as if his body was gaining an unprecedented vitality that wasn't there before.

and even though he should've tested it before when he first equipped the Reptilian armor to test the effects, he lightly sliced his hand with the axe and felt his skin split underneath the blade.

Surprisingly enough it took some effort to tear apart his skin in the first place.

But as he did so, he watched how the wound healed in a speed visible to the naked eye.

Eyeing the visible regeneration with a mix of surprise and fear, it was no wonder.

Because although he could heal whatever wounds that came his way with greater speed than before, it was not a good idea to purposefully put himself in harms way.

It was not a good mindset to get into the idea that it was fine to hurt oneself since it could just be healed later.

Having those thoughts in his head, he also knew that he wouldn't hesitate to save someone from death it just meant dealing with a major wound that would heal later.

'...I really should stop thinking like this.'

Shaking his head, Slade walked forwards while wielding the axe.

---

{To clear the mind there were a few ways to go about it.}

{...What bullshit are you suddenly spouting man?}

A much younger looking Slade stared with confusion at his comrade who suddenly acted all sage like by stroking his non existent beard.

{One way is the way of meditation, by focusing on your breaths and the movement of the blood, one forgets everything else to attain a peaceful state of mind.}

{...I guess that makes sense but again, what?}

{The other way to clear a cluttered mind is to face a seemingly endless amount of work, so much so that it reached the point where you enter a trance trying to finish it all.}

{...If this is about me stealing your chocolate bar and hiding it, just know I have no regrets.}

{...The Third way is drugs but... What's this about you stealing my

{Oh... You didn't know?}

{Slade... I will bury you alive my friend.}

{You never will my friend.}

Solemnly declaring that fact, Slade quickly ran out of the barracks they were stationed at and leapt straight through the halls.

---

'...Old memories" Recalling the face of his friend which had slightly blurred in his memories, Slade took to heart on how to calm his mind from thinking Pessimistic thoughts.

To just dive into an endless amount of work.

And in this place where the only work left to do was to dispatch the endless hordes of undead.

There was no problems in doing so.
