Chapitre 17: First training session
Cedric was staring at Connor as he was walking in front of a wall on the seventh floor.
"Are you sure you are ok? And this is where we are going to train?"
Connor was getting a little annoyed by the questions but they were not over yet, and he had to keep something in mind "A place to train, a place to train, a plac-"
"Did the mutation affect your brain?"
"Dude!" Connor said having reached his max.
"Mateeeee!" Said an awestruck Cedric as he walked past Connor, and when Connor turned, the door to the Room of Requirements appeared.
Cedric easily entered opening the doors and was even more awestruck on what he found, there were dummies, things to practice certain spells, and even some dummies with wands, which may be able to attack.
"You really have horrible timing" Connor said to the room before entering and closing the door. "This is the Room of Requirements, or the RoR, I found it by accident on my first day" Connor lied through his teeth.
"The Room of Requirements? Not the Room of Training? Does that mean tha-"
"Yes it is possible to generate almost anything"
"Let me guess no food or potion ingredient" Cedric said, already knowing the basic laws of magic.
"Or living being for that fact, but it is still a pretty great place for everything"
"What are we gonna do? Some sparring?" Cedric said as he mimicked movements of a duel. "Or maybe we should start with spell casting?"
Connor was looking at him seriously.
"No, I think we need to be more serious about this" Connor was looking Cedric right in the eyes "There is a high chance we will die in the world"
"What do you mean?"
"On the schemes of things we are below cannon folder" Connor explained even though it pained him. "Right now our best bet would be to train until we are strong enough to actually fight"
"But how long would that actually take?" Cedric was looking at him a little confused.
"If we find a mentor not that much, but if we don't then probably two years after Hogwarts if we are lucky."
Cedric looked at him a little, trying to take in that even with his schooling finished he may not be strong enough to deal with what Connor was saying.
"But how strong are we talking about? Evil dark lord level."
"No" Connor paused for a second, giving it more of a dramatic effect, he needed this to stick to Cedric, so he would train and get better "I'm talking about planetary destruction at least, with maybe universal destruction too"
"Holy shit" Cedric was now scared shitless, he was scared of a troll, obviously the idea of something strong enough to destroy the universe was terrifying.
"Don't put that face, where is the confident Cedric I knew? What happened to pretty boy Cedric?"
Cedric smirked a little "Maybe a little sparing might bring him out"
Connor raised his wand "Show me"
A stupefy was sent flying towards Connor at a very rapid peace to which Connor responded by just swatting the spell before it came close to him with his mutation.
"Wandless magic" Connor said, impressed. Meanwhile Cedric had raised his wand and was about to cast a flipendo when Connor casted fumos without a wand, creating a lot of smoke that quickly filled out the Room of Requirements
"Wandless magic too" Cedric acknowledged, dodging both a stream of fire and some ropes made to tie him down.
"Aer inspiratione" Cedric casted a spell that threw a lot of wind unto the smoke completely dispersing, revealing Connor to be making his way to his left.
Connor smiled at him "That sure isn't on the Hogwarts curriculum" He said while casting a chain of stupefies and expelliarmus.
WIth a simple protego Cedric defended himself, while planning and thinking.
He could see how Connor was putting more weight on his right leg, so with that in mind he decided to try something.
Cedric suddenly rolled out of the way of an incarcerous, and shot a knockback jinx to the left of Harry which would barely hit him.
Connor quickly dodged to the right, but he seemed to fall for Cedric's plan as the floor to his right was frozen so he slipped and landed on his face.
Quite funny if Cedric was allowed to claim.
"Ugh" With a grunt, Connor did a turn only to find Cedric with his wand on his face.
"I wi-" Cedric began to say cheekily before he was thrown, almost like he was hit by a flipendo, but it was in truth Connor's mutation.
By the time Cedric got up, Connor had also done so.
"Time to get serious?" Cedric asked, his back hurting like a bitch
"I don't know if you can handle it seriously" Connor said, casting a stupify, flipendo, incarcerous chain spell.
Cedric casted a protego duo very quickly and looked him dead in the eyes.
The spell hit the shield without causing too much damage and before Connor could cast another one he had to dodge Cedric's own spell chain, which consisted of a reducto, a sickly green looking spell, and what Connor guessed was a jelly legs hex.
Connor, thankfully was able to dodge the first barrage, but it just kept coming so he decided to go for a finishing move.
Connor began to both concentrate on his mutation and on dodging, and when he got just the amount to get Cedric to drop his wand but not break either Cedric's grip or the wand itself, was the moment he realized that Cedric had been spending all this time also moving forwards.
And just in that moment when Connor wanted to use his power, Cedric decided to break the spell chain.
"Incendio" The spell worked like a charm, as Connor had to use his mutation to stop it from getting to him and wasn't quite able to either detect or stop the incoming stupify which hit his chest.
A few moments later Connor woke up, and heard a very cheeky Cedric say "I told you I won"
Connor smiled "Yeah, yeah you are amazing"
The smile faded a bit from Connor face as he got serious "We do need to talk about how both of us need to improve thou"
Cedric also got serious "Right, can I start by asking you something?" To which he received a nod by Connor "You don't know shield charms do you?"
"Yeah I don't I guess I was focusing too much in other stuff to see the basics"
"Well it's not the easiest spell to learn, but seeing as you casted spell as easily as a third year maybe you will get it in no time."
Connor nodded and Cedric continued.
"Can you not use your mutation and magic at the same time?" Cedric asked, and well, it was more like a claim, an educated guess.
"No it's" Connor stopped himself trying to put it into words "It's simply too hard to cast magic and be able to use my mutation somehow, they both feel too different."
"Right, maybe if you can learn to use both you can become much better at combat."
"Yeah I guess that's also a good place to try to work on" Connor paused "Is it my turn to critique?"
"Yeah I guess so"
"You need to learn a finishing move, or at least something more area based if you want to win quicker"
"And what finishing move do you have?" Cedric asked, not offended, or at least not that Connor could tell, he seemed curious.
Connor responded by pointing to his head, which did not answer the question that Cedric had in his mind.
"My mutation dummy"
Cedric suddenly had a flash of understanding and also a healthy dose of fear, Connor did explode the inside of a troll's skull.
"Well I think we know where to work on"
"Right"
"It's time to train!"
