Hurley also took out five pounds of rice.
They returned to the base gate, where they could enter after handing over the supplies. The guards, upon seeing the rice, smiled and found a slightly influential figure to escort them inside.
The man introduced himself in the R country's language, "I'm Carlton. Do you need me to show you where to stay?"
Hurley replied in their native language, "Where are the best accommodations? Please show us."
Carlton's eyes lit up as he discreetly assessed the two. They were dressed decently, likely people who had persistently tried to enter the base before and were now forced to compromise. By renting out houses in the base, he could also obtain supplies.
"Please follow me."Carlton led them to a gorgeously decorated residential area. The houses here were generally low-rise, with the tallest being only three stories high. They were not very spacious, but the rent was exorbitant. A room of about five square meters required fifteen pounds of supplies, specifically grains of upper-middle quality.
Alice: "..."They really dared to ask for so much.
Perhaps due to the high rent, there weren't many people living in this area, and many houses were empty. The base preferred to keep the houses empty rather than lower the prices.
They had no intention of renting, so Hurley pretended to look hesitant. "We have a large family. Are there any larger houses available? Also, we need to ensure our safety and are quite picky about our neighbors. Of course, the price is negotiable."
At first, Carlton was reluctant, but upon hearing that they were willing to pay, he took them to another area with standalone houses.
He enthusiastically introduced, "This area is inhabited by senior personnel and wealthy families. The security here is very good."
The only downside was that the rent was extremely high. For a standalone small house, the monthly rent was thirty pounds of rice or flour.Hurley pretended to nod in satisfaction. "We'll come back tomorrow to pay the deposit. We need to take another look around. You can go back now."
Seeing that they had nothing in their hands, Carlton knew they couldn't produce the supplies now and could only smile and agree to meet them tomorrow.
Once they were alone, Alice chuckled. "It's surprisingly easy to blend in here. This area is all wealthy people; there must be plenty of supplies."They needed to retrieve the "fees" they paid to enter.
Just as they were about to gather information, a middle-aged woman approached them, eyeing them suspiciously. What are you two doing here?" she asked.
Alice quickly interjected before Hurley could respond. "We're housekeepers looking for work."
The woman suddenly smiled. "How coincidental. My house is in need of a maid. Would you like to give it a try?"
Seeing how quickly she "hired" them, Alice was a bit skeptical. "Aren't you afraid we might be bad people?"
"Your appearance suggests you've lived a decent life before. We prefer to hire people like you as maids. Those who can't even afford a meal will do anything, and there have been cases of household items being stolen," the woman explained.
"By the way, I'm Edwina, and I live in number thirty-six. If you're willing, you can come with me now." Edwina seemed quite satisfied with them, and they were both decent-looking.
Alice glanced at Hurley and deliberately asked in the R country's language, "Do you want to go?"
Hurley pretended to consider. "Let's go take a look first."
"Come on, my The young lady loves handsome people," Edwina kept looking at their faces.
Alice couldn't help but feel something was off about this.Or perhaps this Edwina definitely had some ulterior motives; she probably set a trap for them.
They followed Edwina's footsteps calmly.
Alice smiled and asked, "Could you tell us more about your The young lady? I'm worried about not doing a good job and upsetting her."
"You won't have that chance. Miss Dorothy only likes men, especially handsome ones. If you do well, you won't have to endure hunger or hardship in this lifetime. Many people dream of this opportunity but never get it," Edwina's eyes fell on Hurley with an ambiguous hint.Hurley: "..."
The two arrived at Edwina's master's house, a three-story building where several servants were cleaning inside. A woman dressed elegantly was sipping tea, and Edwina approached her deferentially. "Madam, the servants have arrived."
The mistress looked up, her gaze sweeping past Alice and settling on Hurley. Her smile deepened. "Dorothy, come down and see if you're satisfied with this servant."
A sweet voice came from upstairs, and two minutes later, a "stout" figure appeared at the staircase.
Miss Dorothy descended the stairs, her body overflowing with flesh, her eyes squinting from the weight of her cheeks. She wasn't tall, weighing at least three hundred pounds, and she was wearing slippers as she came down.
Alice looked sympathetically at Hurley.
Miss Dorothy stared at him, her eyes almost unable to move away. "Mom, I want him."
The mistress smiled indulgently at her daughter and then turned to Hurley, her tone becoming more serious. "From today onwards, you're responsible for taking care of Miss Dorothy. Whatever she asks you to do, you do it."
Hurley lowered his head and replied in a steady voice, "Yes."
The mistress then shifted her gaze to Alice, not yet deciding what task to give her, but Dorothy spoke up first. "Make her clean the toilets, do the laundry, and mop the floor. I hate her face."
Alice: "..."She had made a mistake; she should have put on some makeup earlier.
The two were temporarily settled, and just then, the master of the house returned.
The mistress immediately went over to him, helping him take off his coat. They dismissed everyone else, and Alice walked to the window, pretending to be occupied while eavesdropping on their conversation.
"How's the discussion going upstairs? When are we going to attack the y base? Another big typhoon is coming in a few days, and I don't want to stay here," the mistress complained.
The man gave her a stern look. "That's men's business. Why are you even asking?"
The woman immediately apologized, trying to please him.
His expression softened slightly after her apology.
Meanwhile, Hurley was dragged into Dorothy's room by the hefty girl.
She reached out to undo his shirt buttons, but Hurley quickly evaded her, his brows furrowing tightly, a cold gleam in his eyes.
"Miss, this behavior is inappropriate," he said firmly.
Dorothy frowned in annoyance. "In my house, my word is law. You're a servant bought for me to command. You must serve me and make me happy."
"Now, I command you to take off your clothes," she said with disdain.
Hurley's gaze turned icy as he stepped toward her. "Miss, you... you dare to show dissatisfaction with me? Do you want me to have you restrained?" Dorothy sensed something was amiss and took a step back, remembering her status as the mistress and Hurley as the servant, which bolstered her confidence.
Hurley couldn't be bothered with her nonsense and simply knocked her unconscious.
As he finished, he heard a faint noise from outside the window. He quickly went over and, unsurprisingly, found Alice there.
Alice was quite satisfied with his actions. She gracefully jumped into the window and saw Dorothy unconscious. She raised an eyebrow and looked him up and down.
"What are you looking at?" Hurley glared at her.
"Just checking if you've been taken advantage of," Alice said, noting his intact clothes, which pleased her.
