I left early the next morning, taking a cab to Kingscross. I got near the platforms, stopped, and got some breakfast at a cafe. I had planned to hitch a ride with the Wealesly, but what Arthur accused me of really pissed me off.
"Eddie", I heard Grant's voice just as I bit into a bacon sandwich. I turned with the sandwich still in my mouth to see him and his mother heading towards us. I bit and swallowed.
"Hey, Grant, Mrs Stewart" I smiled at them, brown sauce on my cheeks.
*Pfft* Grant snorted at me and mined, wiping his face. I took a napkin and cleaned myself up. "Edward, good to see you again," Mrs. Stewart said as she took a seat across from me.
"It's only been a week," I said. "You can't have missed me much?" I put on a charming smile, And Mrs Stewart giggled
"ugh, can you stop?" Grant asked with his head in his hands.
"Okay, okay," I said; we had met up last week when he went to get his school supplies, and he was my usual charming self. But Grant thought I was flirting with her.
We chatted till about 10:30 and headed for platform nine and three-quarters. Standing on the platform, we found Tim, and we got on the train. Finding an empty compartment, we settled in.
We were chatting away and catching up when the compartment door opened, and Ginny and Neville entered.
"Hey guys," I said with a smile.
"Hey, Eddie," said Neville.
"Where did you disappear too?" Asked Ginny as she sat down.
"Left early to meet up with Grant and claim a compartment," I said.
"Well, Harry was worried about you. You left without saying a word." Ginny continued
"To be honest after dinner your father and I got into an argument" I said.
"Really, what about?" Ginny was worried.
"It doesn't matter but your father basically doesn't trust me because I'm a Slytherin" I sighed "that and I'm guessing my grandmothers people are messing with the black investigation" I also said.
"Why are they doing that?" asked Neville.
"Because black was one of the last people to see my parents alive," I said
"Really?" Grant was shocked.
"Yeah," I stated. "And seeing that no one knows how they died or who killed them, they want black alive to answer some questions."
"But he's mad isn't he that's what they all say" said Tim.
"Even madmen can speak truths", I said. "Well, on lighter subjects, have a good holiday, Neville?"
We got back to chatting about normal things, Grant complained about his mother abit, she had put him through his paces with training. The trolley witch came around, and I bought lots of chocolate. Several bars and some frogs.
We were about a half hour out of Hogwarts when the train came to a stop. The ice-cold rain pleated the windows.
"What's going on?" Asked ginny.
"Not sure where not there yet?" I said as I drew my wand.
The lanterns in the train blew out.
"Now, what's happening? Have we broken down?" Asked Tim.
<lumos> I cast the light spell to shine in the room. Soft white light illuminated our faces.
A black-cloaked figure passed our window on the outside.
I got up and headed towards the hallway. "Stay behind me," I said to the rest and stepped out into the hall.
I got my first look at a dementor, my blood ran cold as I looked at the 12 foot tall amortal monster. It seemed like happiness was sucked from me.
"Black isn't hiding amongst us students begone dementor" I said with the only courage I could muster.
There was a hissing sound, and I noticed a second one trying to enter a compartment down the hall. I inhaled a breath and focused on my happy memory. That night atop the astronomy tower. <Expecto Patronum> I summoned the bat; its wing span filled the hall. I flicked at the one about to enter a compartment. The bat screeched an earpicking noise and slammed into the dementor, chasing it out of the compartment. I turned to see the other had got close to me too close. The disgusting inhaling was right in my face. Energy and happiness fled I tried to hold onto the Patronus but the bat was so small it just knocked back the dementor before failing. I dropped to my knees and looked up at the foul thing.
A white glowing wolf pounced over me and crashed into the dementor, sending it fleeing from the train.
I reached into my pocket with shaking hands and pulled out a chocolate frog. I ripped the package with my teeth. I had half of it in my mouth when I felt a hand on my shoulder.
"You Alright?" asked a concerned voice.
I looked up chocolate frog legs hanging out my mouth still kicking.to see Professor Lupin in his shabby robes looking down at me. Biting the frog, I pulled out the bottom half.
"I will be", I sighed as the chocolate helped me feel happy again.
"One heck of a Patronus" said lupin "best get back with your friends, just going to talk with the driver." He stepped past me and went up the hall.
I climbed back into the compartment, finishing the chocolate frog. "Eat some chocolate; you'll feel better," I said, tossing out some of the bars I had bought.
"What was that?" Tim said, shaking as he tried to rip the wrapper.
"A dementor one of the guards of azkaban, probably searching the train for black" I said.
"What does it do?" Asked Grant, who looked better after he had eaten some chocolate.
"They feed on happiness, leaving you with only the worst memories, thoughts and feelings," I said as I ate another frog.
"What was that spell?" Ginny asked, "The bat you summoned?".
"Patronus charm, the only defence against immortal creatures like that," I explained.
The train started moving. "Good, I'm starving after casting that spell. I hope there's pudding," I said and rested my eyes.
