Chapitre 2: 2

"A shame it's not Monday." Robert was stretching his sides, before the dorm. "They did it just to spite us."

The teen sighed, thinking about how long it'll take to reach the school building. The Slifer Red dorm was located at least 40 minutes from it.

"I shouldn't have stayed up so late. But the deck wouldn't have play tested itself."

Just as the teen was going to go on his merry way he heard someone calling him.

"Robert!" A blue head of hair was heading towards the blond. "You need to help me."

"What is it now, short stuff." Robert felt a migraine coming.

He already knew what the duo was up to last night. The rumor of Jaden's not so legal duel with Chazz was on the tongues of their Slifer dorm mates during breakfast.

"Jaden won't wake up!" He blurted out.

"Well, if he's dead then tell the Dean." He placed his hands in a prayer.

"No! He just won't get out of bed." Syrus blushed from embarrassment.

"Well there is one solution." Robert scratched his chin in thought.

"And what's that?" Truesdale asked.

Robert Cross took a big breath of air. "Get your ass here Jaden or I'll never duel you!" He yelled at the top of his lungs.

Syrus felt dizzy from the unexpected shout. "Why didn't you warn me?"

"Entertainment doesn't make itself." Robert grinned.

Not long after the call the duo saw Jaden with his duel disk speeding down the stairs.

"Did someone say duel?" Eagerness flashed in his eyes while his face sported a naive smile.

"Oh no." Robert looked at his watch. "Just a couple seconds too late. It seems our fated battle will have to happen at another date. Sorry Jaden."

"You can't do this to me." The Kuriboh haired duelist held his head in shock.

"Wow," Syrus remarked, "is this all it takes?"

"Let's go." Robert stated, ignoring Jaden's incessant requests for a small duel.

-------

The lecture hall was halfway full when the trio of friends entered. As they made their way towards the supposed Slifer section of the hall, Robert couldn't get rid of the feeling that people were staring at them. Glancing to the left side of the room he saw Obelisk Blue students staring daggers at Jaden.

"One day and you've got a third of the year pissed of at you." He chuckled and patted his oblivious friend.

"You should've seen the duel." Syrus preened. "He almost defeated Chazz."

"And that's an accomplishment?" Robert asked.

"Why wouldn't it be? They're the best of the year." Syrus felt uncertain seeing the disdain on Robert's face.

"They're the wealthiest." He crossed his arms. "But their skills are yet to be seen."

"What was that Slifer slacker?" An enraged blue student exclaimed hearing his words.

"Call me that one more time and no amount of money will repair what I'm going to do to your face." The boy cringed, seeing the murderous glare.

"What's with your anger issues?" Syrus felt the teen had unresolved problems.

"Nothing. Either you allow them to bully you or you don't." Robert shrugged. "They'll just spiral into other tactics if you don't pressure them into leaving you alone."

"But you're threatening them with physical violence."

"No. I was just advertising my revolutionary face adjusting therapy."

The nearby Slifer students spat out in laughter, making the Obelisks become red with rage.

"That's it!" The previously threatened student stood up in anger. "I'm going to waste your ass in a duel or my name isn't Gerald Withers."

"Then I'll be glad to be your opponent, Mr. Joe Noname." Robert smirked with his duel disk turning on.

"How eager this year turned out to be." Professor Banner, the Red dorm's Dean entered the hall. "Since this is the first lesson of the year let's get our game on."

"That's my catch phrase." Jaden weeped. Not only he didn't get his duel but now he was the victim of line theft.

The class quickly gathered at the stadium, with two students taking a stand at the arena.

"I'm going to show you what happens when your sort overreaches their boundaries." Gerald said with venom.

"Just don't tarnish my jacket when you piss yourself after I'm done with you." Robert casually shuffled his deck.

"Your friend is quite the character, Jaden." Bastian Misawa a Ra Yellow student remarked.

"But he has a big heart." The Slifer replied.

"You only say that because he gave you a sandwich." Syrus groaned.

"That's a good person in my books." Chumley's response made Syrus fall down comically off his seat.

As the crowd was getting fired up for the duel the participants took their designated spots at the arena.

"I'll be today's duel moderator." Professor Banner's voice spread throughout the stadium. Please give a big round of aplauz for our contestants!"

"You can do it Robert." Jaden whistled from the stands.

"Take down that ingrate, Withers." Chazz tried to out do the rallying shouts of the Slifers.

Meanwhile in the highest row where Alexis and her two friends were sitting an older boy approached.

"Is this the reason, you called." The young man with long black hair wasn't amused judging by his tone.

"Hi, Zane." The blonde greeted. "I thought you'd like to see what the misfit had in store."

"I believe I've had enough shock for a lifetime, Rhodes."

"The same misfit made a stand against us Obelisks." The girl ignored his bored look. "Let's see if this is grand standing on his part or if he has the skills to back it up."

Down at the arena Robert was calmly waiting for the duel to start. He didn't expect playing so soon. However couldn't let the blatant name calling continue.

"What are you waiting for Sla..." Gerald bit his tongue seeing the dangerous glint in his opponent's eyes.

"If you're so eager for your demise, then I'll draw first." With there being no objections the party could finally begin.

"Duel!"

"Duel!"

"I draw, Stand By and I enter my Main Phase." Robert smiled seeing his hand. "I'll start by playing my Pot of Greed, allowing me to draw two cards. Then I'll set one monster face down and place 3 cards in my Spell and Trap zone face down. Your move."

"Is that all you've got?" Draw!" Gerald sneered. "It seems my ace card is here. I discard a card to use Cost Down. Thanks to this I'm able to summon my Luster Dragon #2 (6* 2400A 2350D). I then equip it with Big Bang Shot, taking its attack points up to 2800."

The blond's friends were getting worried.

"How will Robert deal with that thing?" Syrus exclaimed as the holographic dragon roared with might.

"This is not licious at all." Chumley agreed.

"Come on guys, the duel only just started." Jaden said with a confident look.

"He does look rather composed." Bastian added. "Just what strategy is he playing?"

Back at the arena.

"Since you're speechless I'm going to attack." The Obelisk said with a vicious smile. "Take that piece of trash out, Meteoric Scales of Luster!"

The dragon's scales lit up in bright green. With a shattering roar it released its energy, bombarding the opponent's side of the field with beams of light. The explosions brewed up a cloud of smoke.

As it cleared up the audience saw an unfazed Robert and a turtle monster on the field in defense position.

"Why didn't your life points go down?" Gerald saw the counter on his opponent's duel disk still showing 4000. "Big Bang Shot enables piercing damage."

"That may be." Robert smiled. "However I had this face down, Waboku. All battle damage against me is negated. And my monsters can't be destroyed by battle either.

At the stands.

"Why didn't he allow the attack through." Mindy, a black haired friend of Alexis asked.

"Maybe he didn't want to lose 1400 life points." Jasmine replied.

"What do you think, Zane?" Alexis turned to the teen. "Was it a rookie mistake?"

He looked at the Slifer Red student with an unreadable expression. "I think I saw enough." He started to walk away.

"That bad?" The blonde asked.

"The duel is already over." He replied.

Back at the arena.

"Hmph, your dumb luck won't last for long. I place one card face down and end my turn."

"Draw. I think we've wasted enough time. I activate Mystical Space Typhoon. I target your face down."

"Not my Mirror Force." Gerald bitterly said.

"With that nonsense out of the way, I first change my monster to Attack mode."

With four resounding thuds the Pyramid Turtle's legs hit the floor.

"Next I'll activate Creature Swap. Give me your dragon."

"No!" The Obelisk bellowed as his monster changed sides with the turtle.

"Since I haven't summoned yet, I'll normal summon Armageddon Knight (4* 1400A 1200D) in Attack Mode. When it's summoned I'm allowed to send a Dark monster to my deck to the grave. I'll send Vampire Lord."

"And what good will that do you?" Gerald didn't like the smile on Robert face.

"If you were a more challenging duelist then maybe it'd have had another use." He put the card into his Graveyard. "However, what I've got on the field should suffice."

"What did he mean by that?" Syrus looked confused. "He'll still be 1000 points short from game."

"The answer is standing right before our eyes." Bastian replied mysteriously.

"I attack Pyramid Turtle with Luster Dragon #2." The monster stabbed the poor turtle with it's claws.

"Oof." The shockwave hit Gerald making him change his position slightly.

"When Pyramid Turtle is destroyed by battle I can special summon one Zombie Monster with 2000 or less defense points from the deck. I choose my second Pyramid Turtle."

"You can't do this." Gerald watched in fear as the monster materialized.

"Not only I can, but I did." Robert pointed towards his opponent. "Your 2400 life points stand wide open for my attack. Any last words, Mr. Noname?"

"This isn't the end." The Obelisk bellowed.

"Enough with your two cent villainy, I attack for game"

First the Knight slashed making the Obelisk reach his chest in pain. As he thought it couldn't get any worse he found himself surrounded by darkness.

"What's this? He looked up and saw the enormous turtle falling from the sky. "No!"

With a bang the hologram plastered the poor student against the floor and his LP (Life Points) counter reached 0.

"He won?" A Slifer Red student questioned his friend.

"I think he did."

"And the winner of this duel is Robert Crow." Professor Banner's verdict cut off any speculations of foul play.

Slowly the crowd started clapping. Awarding the victor with well deserved praise. Syrus and Chumley were skipping while chanting 'Robert won' at the Slifer stands.

"That was a waste of time." Chazz Princeton cluck his tongue in disgust. "Let's get out of here."

"Of course, Chazz" His two lackeys followed closely behind him.

"Remember that all of you are still in class." The students groaned hearing their Professor's announcement. "Please make way towards the Lecture Hall." The teacher said with a smile.

-------

"That duel was so awesome." The brown haired Slifer, Natsuo Tanaka said.

"It was basic stuff." Robert replied. "I didn't do anything crazy."

"But you won against an Obelisk." Ryouta Katou whispered from the side.

Currently they were sitting through Dr. Crowler's lesson. Alexis Rhodes was asked to name the different types of cards in the game.

"Very good, Ms. Rhodes." The teacher praised. "As expected from one of mine Obelisk students."

Although the man was smiling, a storm of hate was brewing within his heart. Just before the lecture he learned of the supposed duel where his dorm lost against a Slifer. He wouldn't leave it be.

"Okay children. Who will now tell us what a Field Spell card is?" His eyes locked onto the perfect target. "Syrus Truesdale, please answer the question."

Syrus stood up trembling. He tried to say anything but the stage fright got to him.

"Field cards...they're..." The teen stuttered.

"Hmph, sit down boy or we'll need a stretcher to take care of you." The teacher mock sighed. "That's about how much I expected from you Slifers."

The class laughed at his down right tragic display.

"Even preschoolers know the answer." An Obelisk student exclaimed from the back.

"He shouldn't even be here." A Ra student turned his head in distaste.

"Since I can't depend on the Slifers, would anyone else want to answer?" Crowler watched in glee as the red students were distraught by this treatment.

"I'm so sorry, Jaden." Syrus almost wanted to cry, having fumbled such an easy question.

"Don't worry Sy." Jaden patted him on the back. "I wouldn't be so harsh on us reds, Teach."

"Hmm, you've got something to say, Mr. Yuki?" Crowler eyed the miscreant sitting in the front row.

"Well, we Slifers can't be that bad." Jaden smiled. "After all, even I defeated you in a duel."

The Slifers looked at the teen in awe. Forgetting the shame they felt just a second ago. On the Ra's side Bastian watched the unfolding scene with concern. However a small smile still showed on his face.

"That's it." The professor gritted his teeth. "I won't be treated like this by Slifer slackers. Detention and stand outside!"

The class got silent, hearing the fury in their teacher's outburst. Jaden not fazed by this got up with a toothy smile and walked out the door.

"That was excessive, wasn't it?" Mindy commented unsurely.

"Yeah." Alexis was still shocked how this turned out.

"Well he was a little bit on the nose with what he said." Jasmine remarked.

"And Dr. Crowler is a professional." Alexis looked at her friend. "He shouldn't be using his power for personal grievances."

"It seems it still not over." Mindy pointed to the lower rows.

Robert Cross was fed up with the treatment he was getting from just wearing a red jacket. Without any hesitation he stood up from his seat.

"And where do you think you're going, Mr. Crow?" Crowler was still fuming after what Jaden's said.

"I've had just enough with the disrespect I've been getting here since I've set foot on this island." The teen glared at the blue students. "And since being a Slifer and defeating an Obelisk is a crime then so be it. I'd rather stand in the corridors with my head up high than continue this charade of an education."

He slammed the door on his way out. His foul mood lessened a bit as he saw the happy-go-lucky attitude of Jaden.

"Did you also get detention?" He asked.

"Who knows, I've left on my own volition before he could say anything." Cross let out a big breath of air. Trying to calm himself down. "I just couldn't look at that clown face of his any longer."

"At least I'll have a detention buddy." Jaden beamed.

"Unless that useless teacher gets me expelled." He could believe that happening.

"Do you hear that?" Jaden placed his ear to the door. "There's something going on at the hall."

They quickly got their answer when students began coming out of the door.

"Why did you guys leave?" Robert asked when he saw everyone from their dorm standing proudly next to them.

"We believe our place is right next to you guys." Harrison Walker smiled.

"Since you took a stance for all of us, this is the least we can do." Syrus looked at his friends with pride on his face.

"You know there's going to be trouble?" Robert tried keeping a taciturn expression, but the happiness he felt was ruining his efforts.

"They can't expell everyone." Natsuo said.

"And by doing this they can't just brush the whole situation under the rug, claiming it was your fault." Ryouta explained.

"And not listening to the twat is an added bonus." All of the Slifers laughed at that.

"At least one of you was true with his intentions." A bright smile shined on Robert's face.
