Chapitre 30: Chapter 29

In the dimly lit dungeon beneath the Red Keep, Eddard Stark, once the Hand of the King, lay in silent contemplation. His face, once full of vitality, now bore the pallor of imprisonment and betrayal. The air hung heavy with the stench of decay, but Ned's senses seemed dulled to its foulness.

His gaze drifted across the cold stone walls, his mind awash with the events that had led him to this dire situation. How had his noble intentions led to such treachery? He had sought only to uphold the honor and stability of the realm, yet now he languished in chains, accused falsely of treason.

The pain from his injuries gnawed at him, but he found himself strangely numb to its torment. The wound on his leg throbbed with a dull ache, the stitches holding it together beginning to loosen. Yet, even as his body cried out for relief, Ned remained resolute in his silence.

His thoughts turned to his family, his duty to protect them weighing heavily on his heart. What fate awaited them in his absence? He could only hope that they found the strength to endure the trials ahead.

As he lay imprisoned in the depths of the Red Keep, Eddard Stark grappled with the bitter irony of his plight. All his sacrifices, his unwavering loyalty to the realm, had led him to this moment of despair.

He couldn't shake the memories of his actions, his decisions, and the consequences they had wrought. His commitment to honor and duty had led him down a treacherous path, one filled with deceit and betrayal. How could he have been so blind to the machinations of those around him? How could he have trusted so easily?

The offer from Varys lingered in his mind like a haunting specter. A chance to preserve his honor, to safeguard his family, yet at what cost? To betray his own principles, to forsake the very values he had sworn to uphold—could he live with such a compromise?

But as the days stretched on and the pain of his injuries dulled to a distant ache, Eddard found himself grappling with a new kind of numbness—not just to the physical torment, but to the emotional turmoil that had once consumed him. Was this resignation? Acceptance? Or merely the quiet surrender of a man who had fought too long and too hard?

Slowly, he attempted to close his eyes, only to be interrupted by the sound of squeaks echoing through the dungeon. His gaze fell upon a rat, standing on its hind legs and staring at him with beady eyes. With a shudder, he attempted to scare the creature away, but instead, more rats seemed to materialize out of the shadows, surrounding him in a whirlwind of panic.

The rats, however, did not attack or scurry away. They simply gathered around him, their tiny bodies forming a strange circle of solidarity. Eddard's confusion only deepened as he watched them, unable to comprehend their purpose or intent. Some of the rodents began to scratch at the chains binding him, their minuscule teeth gnawing away at the rusted links with surprising determination.

In his desperation, Eddard attempted to shake them off, but the rats persisted, their efforts fueled by an inexplicable urgency. Nothing made sense anymore, and Eddard's thoughts seemed to falter, lost in a haze of exhaustion and bewilderment.

Then, as fatigue threatened to overwhelm him, he felt a strange sensation wash over him, a soothing wave of relief that dulled the ache of his injuries. When he opened his eyes again, he found himself freed from the chains that had once bound him, the rusted metal now scattered on the floor.

Slowly, cautiously, he rose to his feet, disbelief coursing through him as he surveyed the scene before him. The chains lay broken, his wounds healed, and the rats, his unlikely saviors, scattered into the shadows as silently as they had appeared.

As Eddard Stark tried to make sense of the peculiar events unfolding around him, he noticed a pair of luminous green eyes peering at him from the shadows. Moments later, a sleek black cat emerged.

Silently, the cat paused, its gaze lingering on Eddard before sauntering off in the direction of the dungeon's exit. Despite the strangeness of the situation, Eddard felt an inexplicable urge to follow the feline guide. He couldn't shake the feeling that this cat held the key to his escape.

Surprisingly, there were no guards to be seen as Eddard trailed behind the cat. It was unusual for someone of his stature to be left unattended, yet the absence of guards only fueled his curiosity further.

The black cat paused intermittently, as if waiting for Eddard to catch up, before resuming its steady pace towards the exit. With each step, Eddard couldn't help but wonder why it's happening.
