Chapitre 1: A Death In the Beginning

Well, this wasn't the worst decision I had ever made, but the cold metal of a gun barrel pressed up against my temple reminded me that taking a shortcut through an alley I didn't know, after hanging with a few of my friends, was definitely up there. That stuff people say about your life flashing before your eyes when you're about to die, which, ironically, I had always thought was nonsense, was happening and I wasn't really sure if I wanted it to continue knowing how boring my life has been up to this point.

Most of my life has been working toward a goal I'd always known may be impossible and molding the friends I had made into roles that would help me fulfill that goal. Not some of the greatest life choices that could have been made, but remembering when Clint got sloshed so bad that he fell off the roof of the house that we were partying at and broke his arm, which I later used to persuade him into getting a medical degree and from there starting on the path to becoming a neurosurgeon, was still one of the funniest events to happen, so I bore with it.

The gun makes a distinct click next to my ear that pulls me out of my thoughts and makes me realize that this wasn't some random mugger, just a guy that wanted me dead. Disappointing that I couldn't figure out a way to keep myself alive in this situation, but not really unexpected. I was a noodle with a fast metabolism and skipped, on average, two meals a day. I didn't work out, because I didn't see a need to, and the only thing about self defense that I knew consisted of karate classes I had taken when I was nine years old, almost fourteen years ago.

I hear the trigger get pulled and somehow miss the gunshot. I'm not sure if that would be because of the bullet that suddenly ripped its way through my skull or that I died before my brain could process the noise, but it didn't really matter anyway. I knew as soon as the gun was pressed against my head that I wasn't going to be walking out of that alleyway.

I don't remember dying. I don't remember how I got inside this strange black void either. I certainly don't remember when these funky white words appeared in front of me, but I'm dead and there are a lot of legends about the dead experiencing time differently.

Looking at the words in front of me, though, makes me feel like the entirety of the life I'd lived seem like a wast.

I feel, no pun intended, cheated.

Whatever, there's no point in being pissy about it. What's happened has happened and, frankly, this seems like a better deal anyway. I wonder what choices are in Options?

Easy Mode? Yes/No

Tutorial? Yes/No

Inventory? Yes/No

Background Music? Yes/No

UI Access? Yes/No

What… what in the actual fuck is this bullshit? No really, why the fuck was I on FUCKING HARDMODE with none of the DAMN BUFFS.

After flipping everything except BGM to 'Yes', I go back to the main menu and, seeing as the Resume Game button is grayed out, click on New Game.

Select Your World!

Real Life Simulator: You can guess what it is, after all, you've played through it before.

Fictional: Journey through worlds of fiction with all kinds of beloved characters.

'Real life is bullshit, fiction please', I think as I click the bottom choice.

Randomly Chosen World: Selecting…

What? No, wait a second. Let's actually not randomly select a fictional world. Funnily enough, that is, in fact, not a good idea.

World Chosen!

Randomly Chosen World: Naruto

Oh… well, that's actually not that bad.

Don't get me wrong, under the comedic tone of the show there is some pretty dark shit and the power ceiling does get rather high, but compared to Dragon Ball or Highschool DxD, it's a cakewalk.

The only truly worrying thing is Kaguya and the Otsutsuki clan in general, especially if what I heard about in Boruto is actually canon.

Character Creation:

Male

or

Female

Why is it that I'm only choosing my gender and not my appearance? Whatever, male, let's move on.

Oh, hey, my stats appeared.

Charisma: Charisma affects how well communication with others is received and the aura produced when speaking with somebody! It determines the outcome of just about every important conversation!

This fucking game… it literally just copied Fallout's stat distribution.

Actually, if my first life was actually just a run through of this game on Real Life Simulator, wouldn't that mean that Fallout used this game's stat distribution. Whatever, it doesn't matter.

Choose Your Perks!

After that prompt showed up, an enormous amount of perks, description included, filled my vision. I must've spent hours looking through them, but I found a few that caught my eye.

Supernatural Capability: Cost: 3000 Perk Points

[Raises all S.P.E.C.I.A.L. stats to 19, if they are below 19. Any stats above 19 are left alone.]

Magically Inclined: Cost: 1250 Perk Points

[MP does not start locked. Magic skills no longer require foci to be used. Magic skills no longer require chants to be used. Gives the skills [Mana Manipulation] and [Mana Sense]. Additional 5 MP regen per character level. Magic levels up 50% faster.]

Cannibal: Cost: 110 Perk Points

[Gain an additional 15 HP regen per character level for five minutes after you ingest any piece of your own species, including yourself. Able to consume your own kind without difficulty, regardless of defense or bodily toughness. Does not work on inedible materials.]

Bloody Mess: Cost: 155 Perk Points

[Dealing damage to an enemy that is 80% or more of their total HP has a 25% chance to instantly kill them and a 50% chance to cause killed enemies to violently explode in a shower of gore as they die.]

Silent Tread: Cost 100: Perk Points

[Bodily movement is silent.]

Paralyzing Palm: Cost: 280 Perk Points

[Placing your palm on a target successfully has a 30% chance of paralyzing the target for 30 seconds. Chance decreases the bigger an opponent is and time paralyzed decreases the stronger an opponent is.]

Regenerative: Cost: 120 Perk Points

[Grants and additional 5 HP regen per character level.]

Perfect Touch: Cost: 215 Perk Points

[Can pickpocket equipped items with varying degrees of notice… among other things.]

Fortress: Cost: 300 Perk Points

[when standing still, take 95% less damage from all sources.]

Terrifying Presence: Cost: 150 Perk Points

[If this is used on enemies in the immediate area, they might flee in terror. Gives the skill [Terrify]. The chance for an enemy to flee is greater the closer they are and the weaker they are.]

Hunter: Cost: 150 Perk Points

[Gives the skill [Track]. Greatly enhanced damage to beast type enemies and moderately enhanced damage to monster type enemies. Automatically removes scent when hunting, tracking, stalking, or sneaking.]

Adamantium Skeleton: Cost: 1800 Perk Points

[Your skeleton is made up of a biological version of one of the most durable metals in fiction.]

Big Eater: Cost: 400 Perk Points

[You can eat far more than you look like you would be able to. Your mouth can fit far more in it than visually possible and you can swallow more than what should be possible. Your stomach can hold a greater amount without damage and it takes more for you to feel full. If you really tried, you could probably eat half a grown pig with a single bite.]

Abominable: Cost: 1200 Perk Points

[Take 40% percent less physical and magic damage. When below 50% HP, stats are doubled. When Below 25% HP, stats are tripled. When below 10% HP, stats quintupled.]

A Good Rest: Cost: 2500 Perk Points

[Sleeping for an hour or more will fully replenish HP and MP, rid any negative status effects, and regrow lost limbs.]

That's pretty much it. I mean, I know I probably could've gone for one or two more if I cut back a bit on the price, but I have quite a few already. I don't really feel like looking through that enormously long list of perks again just to find something I can afford if I switch around my pricing a bit, when I've already pretty much set myself up for success here. Perk wise, at least.

Looking over my choices, I give out a little mental whistle at the thought that I've already gained four skills, even if two of those are to help with magic.

I'm probably going to be absolutely busted power wise, but if even a Juubi amplified Madara can get his shit kicked in, then I shouldn't get cocky.

I can worry about all that later though, when it actually matters. For now, I'm satisfied with my choices.

Perks Chosen!

Starting New Game!

'This is making me hate white light that completely overtakes my vision. Well actually, that's probably a good thing to hate' were my last thoughts before I lost consciousness.
