The car's engine purred to life, pulling away from the curb as Lara settled into her seat beside Silas. A smile lingered on her lips as she asked, "Hey, Caleb, how are you doing?" She leaned toward him in the front driver's seat.
"I am fine, Miss Smith. Thank you." Caleb smiled, looking at her in the rearview mirror.
"Where are we going?" Lara asked, turning to Silas.
"To my farmhouse," Silas replied.
"Okay?" Lara's excitement flickered, shadowed by a tinge of doubt. "The farmhouse? That's a surprise. If you had told me earlier, I could have brought some clothes with me."
"No need to worry," Silas assured her, his tone dismissive. "Everything will be arranged."
"Well, then I have nothing to worry about," she chirped, enjoying the journey. Contentment settled over her as the scenery blurred past the window. "So, any reason for this sudden trip? A party, perhaps?"
After a moment of silence, Silas declared, "We are getting engaged."
