Chapitre 246: Master Chief
(Master Chief's Perspective)
Linda was on a cliff 2 kilometres from here sniping as Kelly was with me, stuck within a small crevasse within the small forest clearing, Frederic putting on Bio-foam over the wound on his leg, the cut deep enough to show the muscle.
We had come here on orders of Naval Command, the express mission being retrieval of friendlies from a covenant infested planet. So far the mission had gone swimmingly. The shards of hard crystal smattered across the nearby terrain as I reloaded my MA37, my ammo was almost out and I would need to scrounge some when we got past the Elites and little grunts.
"Kelly give me cover, I'll advance and try to take out those grunts."
"Sure Chief, leave it to me." She hefted a large M343A2 Minigun she had commandeered from a scrapped Warthog from earlier in the mission. In seconds she began to fire. The stark increase in sound making me blink as I jumped up into a run, my MA37 in my right hand shooting outwards as I leapt over several rocks and then slid behind a boulder. Landing with my armour taking the brunt of the impact I quickly checked the ammo in my weapon, finding it completely empty.
"Time to do it the hard way."
"Which is always the way you like to do it." Cortana appeared within my helmet as I started to sprint from tree to tree, said trees exploding seconds later from plasma fire of the Elite's weaponry.
Dodging the dangers of countless bolts of plasma and crystals I finally slid behind a small boulder, my hand reaching for a large combat knife on the side of my armour.
"Kelly, Frederic, Linda, get ready for cutting off the head of the leaders."
"Confirmed Chief."
"Sure Chief."
"Will... Do."
Gripping my combat knife I ran out from behind the boulder and sprinted to the closest grunt. My armour took a small beating from some stray Crystal round but ultimately protected me for long enough to get into melee with the little creature. It was easy from there as I dodged a badly placed strike and took my knife through its spine, or whatever counted for it and slid it upwards to its head before moving on. Making my way through another one of the grunts I flowed into another and then another.
An Elite became attracted to my movements and started to shoot some of the larger weaponry at me as Linda's sniper went off. With a resounding crash of steel on steel her bullet punctured the shoulder of the elite as I was left with free reign on the smaller enemies. In a matter of thirty seconds I slaughtered all of the grunts and made my way towards one of the elites, as Kelly was firing on two others, forcing them to take cover somewhat.
The elite in front of me grimaced, or whatever counted for that among its kind and soon took out his plasma sword, the mandibles on its face moving outwards as it cried out in what i could assume was a war cry. I raised my knife and without any hesitation leapt towards the elite. The first hit he tried I dodged by sliding on my legs, dragging my knife across the legs of the elite as I came up behind him and jumped on his back, stabbing into him multiple times. It cried out in a rage and started to toss its body around in an attempt to shove me off... This worked but came at a price as Linda took her shot and scored him in middle of his head. I ignored the newly dead elite and moved onto the others. From there it was easy, we cleaned up the remaining covenant forces in the area and took some weapons for ourselves in case of emergency.
"Hey Chief, nice moves back there with the sliding and the knifing." Kelly was the same as usual, talkative and rather boisterous but i didn't mind this honestly.
"Thanks, now let's regroup. Linda, merge onto the road East of here we'll see if we can find any transportation and come and pick you up. If you don't hear from us in thirty minutes go to this location, we should be there."
"Yes Chief, I'll see you there." I had sent through the coordinates of a rather large military depo, it would be our first stop after picking her up. Just as I was organising our marching order there was the sound of trees snapping as a massive crack rocked the valley, several trees snapping as a massive green blast made us all drop to the ground to dodge it. I had no idea of what it was.
"Cortana, what was that?"
"Seems to be an energy weapon of some kind, based on the Elite's weaponry, much more concentrated however."
"Helpful." "I know." Me and my squad jumped to cover as Linda started taking shots at something, the noise being enough to alert her despite the distance. We immediately followed her rounds and started to shoot in the direction with the covenant weapons. Nothing followed the first blast as we were all held in suspense, waiting for a response to out previous fire. Seconds later a massive coiled Hunter stepped forward, followed by three more. I wasn't one for pessimism but it seems we may have to retreat here. The hunter's weaponry started to charge up as we began to leap for whatever other cover we could find.
I held myself in such a way that I would be able to shoot as I leapt, my Covenant weapon shooting concentrated plasma bolts at the Hunters. That was when it happened, something, no someone, appeared. She was tall, very tall, much taller than us Spartans. I couldn't see much of her body or anything but she seemed to exude some sort of presence.
"Wow... She is off the charts in energy levels. What is she?" Cortana spoke inside my suit but to no effect, as if she didn't know, how was i to know? I continued to fire at the hunters as they focused on the newly appeared woman.
"Get out of here, get to safety, we will handle the Hunters!" I tried to scream out to the woman but she seemed not to hear, or at least seemed to ignore my words. Just as I was about to roll and recover I saw her clap her hands, the weapons of the Hunters disintegrating in a cloud of dust.
I narrowed my eyes within my helmet as I couldn't understand how she did that.
"That was atomic disassociation... She had some serious weaponry or power, perhaps a cyborg?"
I ignored my partner for now as I landed and rolled across the ground, standing up and running towards the Hunters with my weapon in hand, firing. The Hunters let out some rough grunts as they raised their 'arms' to stop the plasma from hitting their 'heads'. The woman chuckled a little before snapping her fingers, in moments the Hunters were blown apart and smeared over the ground.
"Who is she Cortana?"
"I have no clue... A being of immense power it seems."
No sounds were transmitting outside of my helmet but the woman seemed to know what I was asking as she cocked her head to the side and smiled. Her beauty was mesmerising but i quickly snapped out of it as Cortana yelled at me.
"Thank you, she seems to have something about her that draws in the mind."
"No problem, just don't be going and getting lost on me."
"Sure."
The rest of Blue Team near to me gathered behind me as they wearily held their weapons, looking at the mysterious woman. Me being the leader i had to interface with her so I stepped forward.
"I am John, or as others call me, Master Chief. If i may inquire, who are you?"
"You can call me Emelia. Emelia Lionheart. And i am here to meet you all and your government."
