Chapitre 4: Training Day Suffering
(Cao Cao POV)
Another day, another death-defying injury, such a phrase I did not imagine I would think, but life is full of surprises after all. Yet as such thoughts passed through my mind, Celestine had stabbed me through the chest again. This training has been going on for the past two days, and I have been showing improvement thanks to my spear arts skills. But the pain is not something I enjoy, and when I tried to turn it down, I could not.
After asking why I couldn't do it, Cato answered, "Pain is simply a natural part of existence, Cao, and to suffer here is not to suffer out there; let it be known we take no pleasure in watching your pain during training. Well, some might as some were sadistic in life, but that is a pointless fact." I would say he is lying about the pleasure, But I have looked at some of the other roped people watching me train, and some of them have had rather interesting expressions.
Celestine even said I was lucky that she was training me and not some others, as they would hurt me just to hurt me. I sent her my thanks, and all she said was, "I do not need thanks. I need you to stay alive as the entire world will be against you for wielding the spear and for everything all of us have done with it and in his name. Even though God may be dead, the actions of his faithful have not gone unnoticed. I would know, after all."
The last part she said had a sadder undertone, which does make sense, as if she did fight in the Crusades. I can understand her guilt, as those wars in the context of DxD would be completely and utterly pointless and backward. Unlike in the world I came from, where we do not know of God's existence, most would assume they can understand his word or his desires, but here, he actually exists or did exist.
In fact, it kind of messed up that everything that has happened and everything the church has done has been for a dead God, but such events are meaningless now. Giving her a reply as we trained, I said to her, "We all make mistakes, and we all join causes that, even if we do not know ourselves, will cause others pain, yet the fact that you are admitting that you were wrong is far better than most others. It may not absolve you of the pain you have caused, but it is a good first step."
The woman, with a slight smile, says, "Well, it is nice that one of our newer wielders has a bit of tact. I could definitely tell you're going to be a lady's man in the future, especially with lines like that." Realizing that I just said a somewhat shounen line, I immediately stabbed myself as if trying to commit seppuku, to which both Cato and Celestine laughed at me for it.
I found myself laughing with them, too, after digging the spear out of my gut, but the cringe remains. After doing such, I began to fade from the Spear space. Celestine sighs and says, "Well, it seems our training is done for the night. Keep training. We all believe in you." I am not an emotional person, but I could feel comforted by that fact. I then faded from the space and woke up in the bed in my old home.
Looking at LP stock after two full days, it has risen to 345,600 LP, which may seem like a lot, but again, a basic Boost skill costs two million. But for now, noticing that my spear skills have risen from D Rank to C+ Rank, a small smile forms on my face as the torture, I mean training, is working.
Cato then says (There is no shame in feeling happy for one's own improvement, just not to feel overconfident. You have definitely improved, but you have a long way to go in comparison; Lu Bu could use the spear to split the sky with one slash with a normal spear.)
Nodding in agreement, Celestine then adds her own two cents (He is right. You should definitely feel proud of your improvement. I mean, when you first started, you could barely last a second, and now you can last a total of twenty seconds. I believe that is definitely an improvement.)
Rising from the bed, I went to the backyard to practice my MCU Sorcery. When it took me minutes to make a portal, it had gone down to nearly seconds. But my art of making portals is still learning, and I still have to learn how to make the other MCU spells and various arts.
It does make me wish I could go to the MCU and learn from the ancient one herself, but that dimensional travel skill is months away. I have been going to other safe houses mentioned by the other wielders, with some being there but others either being cleaned out or destroyed.
The weakness of these portals is that I need to know where I'm going in order to make one as well as have enough magic to connect to the two spaces, but my core has been growing steadily, and with time, I will be able to open portals instantly and close them during combat. In terms of raw power, I am around the peak of the Low Class, which is higher than the peak human.
In skill, I do not know, as Celestine is not really the best to measure up to, but Cato did say I should be able to deal with Low Class Devils easily, even without the spear. But after only three days in this world, such improvement is good enough. I was under no illusion that I was some Shounen Protagonist, as their potential was ridiculous. Take Issei, for example, as he went from Low Class to boxing with EXE Gods in mere years.
That is my goal, but I will reach such heights with enough time and skill. But what is keeping me from my full potential is the lack of a true goal. Unlike the man that I had replaced, I have no true goal other than to simply live as he had a goal. If stupid and genocidal, it was still a goal. While the spirit self serves me completely, it notices my lack of a goal as sacred gears are powered by emotion and drive, and I was not an overly emotional person.
That fact does make me worry that I will be unable to unlock my balance breaker as such a mode requires intense emotion or simply brute forcing the process with enough strength.
"I need a goal, but what should it be?" I asked myself, to which Cato replied (It is not rare for someone not to have a goal in life as some can live their entire existence not having a single one other than to make it to the next day simply. But think, child, what drives you? Is it power? Is it women? Is it wealth or resources or a title? Or do you want to gather friends or family? Everyone within this spear has held a different goal in mind. Sometimes, you just need to take a leap of faith.)
Sitting down on the ground, I placed the spear in front of me and began to think and breathe. Continuous breathing is all I did as I viewed my life under a microscope and saw it for what it was. A life wishing to live through others. It was why I loved reading novels, manga, and fanfiction, as the time I spent reading was more imagining and less focusing on my lack of real connection.
Every day, I imagined flying through the sky in Dragon Ball, learning magic in Fairy Tail, and enjoying life studying foods in Toriko and Shougeki No Soma, but now I had that chance. In worlds like these, the multiverse is at my fingertips, and to be me is to be the man who thrives. Every hero suffers loss and pain to reach an apex, but my goal is to reach it with everyone I meet. Let other heroes suffer their bad ends, and for me, I will thrive.
My selfishness almost astounds me, but that would be hypocritical, to which Cato chimed in (Being a hypocrite isn't exactly a new thing; I mean, a majority of us in here are hypocrites, liars, and thieves, but now this is your chance, not ours. We live as long as you live, so let us see where this goal takes you.)

Nice.
But for now, I need a skill set that offers variety, so reaching for my LP stock, I buy a new skill, Chakra from Naruto, for 50,000 LP. As I add this skill, I feel my physical and spiritual energies become more pronounced, and a new energy source joins with my magic core. A basic skill set enters my mind as a new way of manipulating Chakra is introduced to the world.
Unlike Senjutsu, which uses the spiritual energies of the world and the user, Chakra from Naruto is an inborn power in all things, but most lack the network to use it. Also, it is an improvement over the former as Chakra runs little risk of corrupting the user unless they attempt to learn sage mode. Thankfully, thanks to Archmage, I have affinities for all the elements, which will make experimentation so much fun.
Currently, with the skill level being at its lowest point, my chakra pool with my core is the size of the average jounin, and as such, I have a good source to make use of a lot of jutsus, and being a bit chunni I decide to use the classic hand signs for a fireball jutsu Ox, Tiger, Horse, Boar, Rat, and Rooster and breathing in I feel the flames within my mouth and breathe outward.
A plume of fire goes into the air so as not to hit the surrounding trees. While I may be a punch ninja now, I am not an environmental terrorist.
But for now, the fact that I can use such things is amazing. I am also tempted to use the shadow clone Jutsu, but unlike a certain jumpsuit-wearing ninja, I do not have the vitality to survive the innate mental strain of the technique. Then it comes to me that I can buy a new skill.
Reaching again to my LP stock, I bought another skill, telekinesis, for a whole 300,000 for a basic growth-type telekinesis skill—leaving my stock to 5,600 LP from 355,600 LP. But it is not a terrible loss since I can get that back in 3 days. I was also tempted to try to see if I could buy ki from Dragon Ball, but even to use the basic form of it cost ten million, and god ki was five times that at fifty million.
When searching for Kai Kai or the teleport skill that the Supreme Kai uses it also costs a hefty sum as it can teleport a user anywhere from different planets across the universe to other timelines. So that is a bust for now until I upgrade my LP generation or wait a while for enough points.
Luckily, when I buy a new power source that is esoteric in nature, I can teach it to others without having to resort to bestowing skills using my own LP. Thanks again to Archmage.
After using the technique, Cato simply said ( At this point, I should just get used to your ridiculous techniques. But yet, how does that work?! Spiritual energies and physical energies should not mix like that! You know what, never mind. Celestine, take the wheel. I need to talk to the others.)
I may have started laughing as Celestine's voice was heard (I have no idea how you did that to him, but everyone else is having a laugh, thank you. But what happened?) I then showed her the fireball jutsu, and she simply said ( Well, that doesn't really surprise me as such advancement would be made eventually, but how does it work?)
Smiling, I then say while moving my two hands in an arc-like motion, "Magic."
I could feel Celestine regretting her decision as she says (You know what? I'm going to join Cato over there. But do know this little joke is going to cost you a bit during training.)
"Worth it," I say to myself as I try to climb up the trees and fail.
