91.75% Life As a Support Mage of The Protagonist / Chapter 89: Researching One's Enemy

Chapitre 89: Researching One's Enemy

"So, did you do it with her?" the question caused Ian to choke, Fiona to spit-take, and Euralle to blush and buried her face in her hands.

"No," "Not yet anyway," two different answer with the same meaning, yet the latter has another connotation to it, causing the pink-haired alchemist to squeak.

Fiona glared at Ian, who gave her an innocent look. But before the debuff mage could say anything else, Kell decided to be the leader he supposed to be and not some gossip hounds.

"So, we need to know more about those guys, because I reckon none of you want to be attack when we take a commission now, would we?" he said.

Both Fiona and Ian gave Euralle a discrete glance but before they could say anything, the alchemist stood up.

 "I have something to say,"

-x-

To Euralle surprise, instead of sneer or distrust look, she instead get hugs, both Lisa and Ana gave the smaller girl the hug she deserve. As for Kell, he seem to be plotting something with Ian.

"So, do.you think we can use rope to make their suffering longer?"

"Maybe, but we can just heat up a metal and brand them instead,"

Yeah, she don't think it's a topic she want to talk or hear.

After the two pulled out, Kell looked at her. "So, do you know anything about them?" he asked, using the softest tone he can even though his mind is busy plotting murder.

The alchemist shook her head. "I am not sure the reason but they always going after me, probably even before my father die but I am not sure of it," she answered.

"Hhmm, this is troubling. After all, we don't know what they capable of or if they have greater influence, which will make us asking the guards a nigh useless attempt," Kell said, his hand under his chin as he think of a solution.

Then he remember strategizing is not his forte and looked at Ian instead, "Ian, think of something," when the support mage spluttered, the larger man continued, "Thats an order,"

The brunette massaged his forehead, as he began to think of the best way to handle them. After giving it a thought, he then tell his plan.

"First thing is we should asked the guild about the token we got. That's the most reliable source of information that we knew of. If they don't know anything, we need to go to the city's Underworld and try to get as much information without telling the informant of the reason, less they sold us out,"

The others nodded, all of them thinking his reasoning is correct.

"In that case, Lisa and I will asked the guild first. The rest will remain in the house. I think we still have some ingredients to make something simple," seeing Fiona nodded, the bigger man clapped his hand.

"Then it's settled, Lisa and I will try to see if the guild knew anything about it, while all of you hold the fort. They might knew of our home and I don't really want them to do anything to it," the ones who stay nodded.

And with that, the pair quickly move out, intend on finding out the threat to themselves and friends.

-x-

Kell and Lisa entered the guild building, quickly spotting their receptionist. They walked toward them, who gave them a smile.

"Hello there, I am surprise you did not come today," she said, though the smile turned into a frown when she observe the two are not smiling.

"We have reason for it, and it related to this," Kell put something on the counter. The receptionist took a brief look before her eyes widened.

"Where did you get this?" she whispered, seemingly afraid of somebody hearing her.

Instead of answering, Lisa took out a piece of paper before putting on the counter, on it, was written, 'From one of the men who attack us yesterday,'.

Her brows furrowed after she finished reading it. She gave them a serious look.

"Let's head inside my office for a talk,"

-x-

"So, they attack you and you killed all of them," the receptionist asked.

"Not all of them. We don't know who they are and we don't want to kill them all unless necessary. Not to mention some of them manage to run away quickly," Lisa answered on their party behalf.

"Hmm, this is troubling. If you are a resident here, there is a chance you make an enemy out of them, but considering that you are not, then there should be another reason," she stroke her chin, trying to find the answer to this conundrum.

The pair looked at one another before Lisa opened her mouth, "Well, we might have an idea why they are after us," the two quickly tell the receptionist of Euralle, though they omitted some things, often related to her privacy.

"I see," the woman said, "It make sense while not making sense," the serious look on her remained unchanged as she explained some more things.

"Why are they targeting her? Aside from being an alchemist but they stop making a move when her shop went under. But when it seem like she began to float, they attacked her this time more aggressively, why," before the two could say anything else, the receptionist stoof up all of a sudden.

"Don't worry, while we cannot protect you much, as long as you stay inside the Adventurer Guild Housing Area, then they would not dare do anything to you," when she finished speaking, Lisa cleared her throat.

"That is good and all, but who are we facing and why do you suddenly become so secretive?" she asked.

"Oh right, you clearly wanted to know that," the receptionist has the decency to look sheepish, "The token belong to members of a gang called Dark Hound. They are an underworld gang that started to gain influence.

They have some stores under their names; some being legal and some are not. They used it to build their prestige and gain more influence. Their end goal is likely to become a power in the city that would not be able to be kick out, and gaining wealth.

Of course, they are nothing special. There are more gangs like them, around 12 to 15. They are considered the second rate, with the first tier have connections to people with great power in the city.

However, even if they are 2nd rate, they are still trouble, so be careful. Who knew what they are going to do after this,"
