Chapitre 305: Chapter 305: Disrespecting the Adeptus [Bonus Chapter]

Mona instinctively wanted to bite the hand that had suddenly covered her mouth.

"Ouch!" Nolan quickly withdrew his hand, only to find two rows of red teeth marks on his right middle finger.

As Mona was about to scold him for whatever he was trying to pull, she noticed the pained look on his face and realized she'd almost made a noise that would have drawn the attention of the distant creatures.

Once she understood, she looked at Nolan apologetically.

Before the Abyss Herald could check out where the "Lumine's Sword God" had appeared, Nolan quickly activated "Stealth Mode" again, cloaking them both in invisibility.

This way, they could stay hidden, even if the invisibility could sometimes be disrupted when initiating an attack.

Since the "Lumine's Sword God" was far enough from them, her actions wouldn't affect their invisibility.

At the moment, Nolan was only mentally linked to the "Lumine's Sword God," and since he wasn't actively attacking, there were no energy, mental, or sword aura fluctuations to reveal them.

Noticing they were hidden once more, Mona chose to ignore the little biting incident and instead asked, "Did you just punch the wrong person? You were supposed to attack that monster!"

"Well, it's like this: that monster is pretty strong. Even with my main body and golden avatar fighting together, we'd at best break even—and probably take some damage, too.

"But Xiao's situation is urgent. His karmic burden has flared up, and he needs treatment right now. It may look like I'm attacking him, but I'm actually striking at the 'karmic burden' on him!" Nolan quickly explained to Mona to avoid any misunderstandings.

Instead of wasting time fighting the Abyss Herald, it was better to help Xiao. Once Xiao recovered, he could easily defeat that non-human creature.

"Oh? Really? You can heal someone by hitting them?" Mona, knowledgeable as she was, found herself confused.

She turned her gaze back to the masked figure, and perhaps it was just a trick of her mind, but after hearing Nolan's explanation, it did seem like every punch the golden avatar landed on Xiao lessened the dark energy around him.

During the battle with Osial, Xiao had seen this golden avatar before.

He knew it belonged to that capable young adventurer. At first, Xiao thought it had come to aid him, but instead, he took a punch to the face! Even beneath his mask, Xiao's eyes widened in shock.

Could it be that this young adventurer was aligned with the Abyss Order? A surge of anger rose within him, and it seemed to ease the pain caused by his karmic burden.

Wait…?

It wasn't just a feeling; the pain really was decreasing. Xiao, who had been about to counterattack with his spear, lowered his weapon.

Bam!

Another punch landed.

Xiao carefully felt his body's changes and was astonished to realize that his heavy karmic burden was indeed being dispersed bit by bit! Now that he understood, he stopped resisting and allowed the golden avatar's blows to land on him.

Meanwhile, the Abyss Herald, though initially stunned, was no fool.

It didn't understand why this golden figure seemed to be helping it, or whether it was friend or foe.

It wasn't about to make the naive assumption that just because the golden figure seemed to be aiding it, it was an ally.

Only foolish humans would think that way.

Since the Abyss Herald couldn't fully grasp the situation, it decided that destruction was the simplest solution.

With its remaining arm, it channeled pure Hydro energy, forming it into a curved blade attached to its arm, and suddenly vanished.

In the misty night, with cold winds blowing, the Abyss Herald reappeared right in front of Xiao and the "Lumine's Sword God."

Without hesitation, it slashed down at both of them!

The Abyss Herald truly lived up to its reputation, giving no one a chance to exploit any openings.

Nolan had no choice but to interrupt the "Lumine's Sword God's" punches and swiftly summoned a golden longsword to block the strike.

There was no resounding clash.

Only two powerful forces were locked in a tug-of-war, each side waiting for the other to falter and suffer a strike.

The "Lumine's Sword God" showed no expression. Suddenly, "she" grew two or three times larger. Though the power remained the same, it now appeared more evenly matched against the Abyss Herald.

"Cough..."

Meanwhile, Xiao, enduring the pain, struggled to his feet. The intense karmic burden that had entangled him had lightened considerably. The remaining pain was manageable, enough that he could suppress it without it affecting his combat.

"What?! So, you tricked me… I'll remember you, stranger!"

The Abyss Herald sensed that Xiao's condition had vastly improved and immediately felt the shift as unfavorable. It hadn't expected such an unforeseen complication.

The Herald cast a long look at the "Lumine's Sword God," as if trying to peer through her avatar to see the person behind it.

Unfortunately, it was futile.

Since the golden figure appeared, the Abyss Herald had been scanning for any others nearby. But its search yielded no one else.

Still, it didn't matter; as long as they were enemies of the Abyss Order, they would cross paths again.

Without any parting threats, a portal resembling a spatial tear appeared behind the Herald. It took a step back, flying into the rift—one second later, it would have been too late to escape.

"Phew, that monster's gone. Let's go check on the masked guy," Mona said, slightly relieved as she watched the Abyss Herald depart.

"Good idea," Nolan nodded.

With the enemy gone, there was no need to remain hidden. Plus, they'd come to find Xiao, so they dropped their invisibility and walked toward him.

Xiao watched the direction in which the Abyss Herald had left. Hearing their footsteps, he turned slightly.

"Just as I thought. It's you."

"Good evening, Lord Xiao." Nolan greeted him politely.

"Hmm. Your attack was... unique. You managed to do something even the Emperor couldn't accomplish. I suppose I should thank you," Xiao said.

Xiao's karmic burden was a weight on his very soul. Even the Geo Archon had tried to help purge it but found it would hurt Xiao too deeply, so instead, they had used special medicine to temporarily suppress its effects.

"Ah, I wouldn't dare to compare myself to the Geo Archon. But there's still a lot of karmic energy lingering within you. Shall we try to purge it entirely?" Nolan offered with a slight smile.

The "Lumine's Sword God" clenched her fist once again.

"Go ahead," Xiao said, calming himself.

Naturally, he wouldn't refuse. This karmic burden had plagued him for so long. If there was a chance to resolve it entirely, a few blows were a small price to pay.

Thirty minutes later.

Nolan finally helped Xiao purge his karmic burden completely. Xiao looked a little worse for wear but mentally sharper and clearer than ever—no more karmic curses would trouble him.

"Alright, from now on, just call me by my name if anything arises," Xiao said, his usual terse nature showing through.

As a token of gratitude for freeing him from his karmic curse, Xiao allowed Nolan to reach out to him for assistance in the future.

Seeing Xiao about to leave, Nolan quickly called after him.

"Hey, wait, Lord Xiao—I could actually use a little help with something right now."

He exchanged a glance with Mona, who nodded and summoned her Hydro divination disk, still faintly surrounded by dark energy.

"Ah, apologies, Lord Xiao. I tried a little divination concerning you earlier and, well... could you help clear the residual energy from my disk?"

Mona asked, slightly embarrassed.

Xiao looked calmly at the unfamiliar girl accompanying Nolan and nodded.

With a flick of his hand, a cyan whirlwind swept over the disk, dispelling the dark energy. Xiao left with a final remark echoing behind him:

"Don't let it happen again."
