“You come all the way out here to dine often?” The words spilled from her mouth before she could catch herself. It wasn’t the exact word choice she would have liked to use, but it was obvious what they implied.
Rafiq looked at her. Of course the headdress obscured his entire face, but she didn’t need to see it to know that she had amused him, “No.” He said, “this is my first.”
The way his eyes watched her. Ziza knew he was only baiting her, challenging her to dispute his answer. However, before she said anything else, Rafiq moved gracefully in the robes he wore and placed a sturdy hand on the small of her back. Just then, a man dressed like one of the palace servants rushed toward them. As the man approached, Rafiq tugged at the garment wrapped around his face and uncovered the rest of his sculpted features, while Ziza opted to leave the veil of her niqab in place.
