"ARGH!!! HURRY, GUIDE THE YOUNG MASTER TO SAFETY—COUGH?!"
As a burly man wearing leather armor coughed up blood, he looked behind him with a pair of bloodshot eyes.
"Hehehe…"
There he saw it, a disfigured face that could only have come from hell, chuckling manically with a pair of blank eyes that lacked the pupil and iris.
"Q-quick," the burly man gritted his teeth, grabbing a dagger from his belt and pointing it toward the demon.
"Run…!"
The burly man said, but before his dagger could reach the demon, it halted. Having already expected it, he merely glared at the demon.
"I'll taste your suffering bit by bit," the demon chuckled and raised his claw.
BANG!
"STOP! DON'T YOU DARE—"
"Young… master! Why did you…?!"
Seeing a young adult burst through the thin doors of the moving carriage, glaring hatefully at the demon, the burly man felt his heart drop.
'What should I do?! I can't let the young master be harmed!'
"Hehehe, looks like I know how I can do that now," the demon whispered, licking the back of the burly man's ear before reaching out for the young master's head.
(One Year Later)
"Beware of the evil spirit that haunts the waves."
That was the warning all travelers hear when they embark on a journey near the seas.
The tale was that if you are alone at night, near the vast ocean, you will fall under the illusion of an evil spirit.
That rumor started a year ago, and ever since then, I've been trying to get this "evil spirit's" attention.
I began my training a year and a half ago. Needless to say, I've made progress that gave me the confidence to hunt down this "evil spirit."
According to the travelers who spread this rumor, the "evil spirit" should be a rogue ninja around my level. The rogue ninja, officially code-named: Evil Spirit, had a bounty of one million.
'Everyone is tempted with that amount of money for a weak ninja, but unfortunately…'
I licked my lips under the wooden mask I was wearing.
'No one was able to get a glimpse of the infamous Evil Spirit.'
If not for the bounty coming from a wealthy man, the bounty would've long vanished.
'That said, the Evil Spirit should be real, since the man who issued the bounty was the survivor of the Evil Spirit's killings.'
Furthermore, the Evil Spirit is an active rogue ninja who regularly kills merchants or ninjas that neared the ocean.
"Sigh," as I let out a breath of exhaustion, the ninjas I was traveling with jumped in a startle.
"Fuck," I am traveling with four ninjas, all of whom are bounty ninjas. Naturally, "Ghost, don't make any sudden noise!" I was a bounty ninja as well.
I smirked.
'After all, how fitting is it for a ghost to hunt an evil spirit?'
"Oh come on, 'Red Blade,'" I rolled my eyes, though no one saw it. "Such a brave ninja like you is scared by a ghost?"
After my taunt, "Red Blade," a man wearing a full red ninja attire stood up and grabbed a kunai from his ninja pouch. It was a regular ninja pouch, and everyone can see that he only had three kunai knives under his name.
"You wanna go?"
'Surprisingly, for a poor man, he has quite the temper,' I shrugged.
"You're such a bother," I yawned, not at all caring that "Red Blade" was now a headless corpse on the ground.
'Now that the chicken was killed,' I smirked.
"Anyone else 'wanna go'?"
As expected…
"No, sir Ghost."
No one objected.
