The next morning, one of Kiyoshi's bodyguards came to deliver a conspicuous box to Midori's doorstep. It was wrapped in an explosion of vibrant colors and intricate embroidery, making it the biggest furoshiki* Midori ever beheld.
"What's this?" Midori asked with an incredulous tone. "I didn't ask for anything."
The bodyguard bowed respectfully before answering, "Young Madam, kindly accept this gift, courtesy of Old Madam Matsumoto."
"..."
It was typical of Old Madam Matsumoto, alright.
The box was particularly heavy, thus Midori asked the bodyguard to move it into the house.
"Ojou-sama, what is that?" Mai asked, her eyes wide with wonder. Inside the baby basket, Ame flailed her arms full of interest.
"I don't know, open it."
Midori picked Ame up and cradled the little treasure in her arms.
