Mateo stepped forward to stand between Clara and Gabriel, addressing Gabriel, "We don't welcome you here. Please leave."

Gabriel just looked at Clara, his eyes deep and inscrutable. "Clara! I need your help."

Although Gabriel was speaking, Clara could sense there was something more in his eyes, something he was implying. She absolutely couldn't let him reveal that thing to Mateo.

"Mateo! I'm the only one in the tribe who understands medicine. I can't stand by and let someone die," Clara said softly, her voice getting quieter as Mateo's expression grew more grim.

"Clara! Are you really going to help him?" Mateo asked.

Clara nodded and smiled at Mateo. "After all, he's Little Furry's dad. Let's just help him out."

With Clara's agreement, Mateo had nothing more to say, but he felt a strange unease. The exchange of looks between Gabriel and Clara just now seemed to imply something else. Did they have some secret that he didn't know about?
