Chapitre 73: Where in the World is Tom Riddle's Diary
Oleandra, Daphne, Potter and Weasley froze where they stood, not knowing how to react. They had expected a difficult fight against the genius Witch, but now she had just gone to sleep. That was… rather anticlimactic, wasn't it?
"D'you think it's a trick?" asked Potter, pointing at Mafalda's unconscious body with his sword.
"I d-d-dunno," said Weasley, his teeth chattering loudly. Oleandra didn't know whether it was from the cold or from fear.
"She could easily have killed us all," said Daphne, frowning deeply. "Something's not right. I think she was holding back."
"Holding back?" exclaimed Weasley incredulously. "She nearly killed all of us!"
"She definitely wasn't this strong before at the dueling club," said Oleandra weakly. "And now, if you'll excuse me, I think I'm gonna—"
"Oh, great," sighed Daphne. "I don't think I'm strong enough to bring us all out of here by myself."
Those words were the last she heard before Oleandra blacked out.

Fifty Years Ago
I, Tom Riddle, using the Basilisk, murdered Myrtle Warren. My soul was torn in half.
One Year Later
Having obtained knowledge on Horcruxes, I sealed half of my soul inside this diary.
Twenty Years Ago
My other self has entrusted me to one of his trusted lieutenants, Lucius Malfoy. I am to incarnate myself and reopen the Chamber of Secrets once more, to sow chaos within Hogwarts, the stronghold of our enemies.

I must admit that I am somewhat disappointed in my original. He is behaving erratically, and is ruling entirely through fear. He has also lost his good looks and charisma, and I'm not sure whether it's due to the effects of the Bloodline Atavism Potion's effects or the loss of more than half of his soul. I was created before he imbibed the potion and I have exactly one half of his soul; therefore, I cannot accurately judge what has caused this change.
Nevertheless, I must accomplish my task. I must cleanse Hogwarts of its impurities.
August 24th 1992
I was awoken from a long and deep slumber. I am being given away, as the Ministry of Magic was raiding Malfoy's home to search for illegal Dark Magic items. I came into the possession of a pure-blooded witch named Ginny Weasley, who is about to begin her first year at Hogwarts. Perfect.
October 31st 1992
I've managed to send enough of my soul into the girl to control her temporarily. It's been such a chore listening to this whiny little brat's every little concern. The scion of the Greengrass family apparently appeared out of nowhere during the Sorting Ceremony and embarrassed her in front of the entire school. Bypassing the school's Anti-Apparition wards? Might be worth looking into.
I've also managed to extract some very disquieting news from her. My original has been killed, and by a baby, no less. And apparently, last year, my original attempted to steal the Philosopher's Stone, but failed miserably. Foiled, by that same baby, who had grown up. I'd like to meet this rival of mine, this Harry Potter, some day. To best me in his first year in Hogwarts, there must be something special about him.
In any case, I've managed to reopen the Chamber of Secrets and awaken the Basilisk. It's hungry, and it wants to kill…
January 22nd 1993
That little Muggle-Loving bitch. She abandoned me in a puddle of toilet water! When I get my hands on her, I swear she will regret crossing Lord Voldemort! I used all the power I accumulated to lure someone, anyone to my diary. There's not much magic I can do without a body.
Luckily, someone did find my diary. I had been hoping it would be Harry Potter, but instead I found a fascinating subject. As an expert on souls and curses, I immediately noticed Oleandra Greengrass's peculiar balancing act. Her soul was cursed from birth to prevent her from activating her powers, and yet from the outside, her soul looked like the night sky, drawing power from the cosmos instead of the ambient magic floating in the Earth's atmosphere. Was this the power of runes?
January 25th-26th 1993
I attempted to take control of Oleandra, but I was immediately rejected, though I did manage to briefly get a look at her memories. She has actually visited the land of the dead! That old fool Dumbledore was actually right, the afterlife is real!
To get what I want from her, it looks like I'll have to make use of some finesse. But for now, I had to find a new host to draw power from. At the very least, I managed to convince Oleandra to take me back to the Gryffindor common room where I could perhaps find Harry Potter, or at the very least, finish parasitizing Ginny Weasley.
That night, Oleandra took me back to the Gryffindor common room, and I finally got to meet THE Harry Potter.
February 14th 1993
Harry Potter finally figured out he had to write in my diary in order to make it work. In order to gain his trust, I showed him the scapegoat I had found to take responsibility for the girl I had killed; Rubeus Hagrid, that great big oaf. I'm still surprised that actually worked, though Dumbledore never did believe my story.
I also found an irregularity in Harry's soul. It's incredibly small, though. I'll need some time to look into it.
April 17th 1993
I've had enough of this Weasley girl! She must have seen Harry Potter with my diary, and she stole it back. This is the last straw! I have a certain plan in mind for her…
The power of the Greengrass sisters' runes intrigues me, but from the look of their souls, it appears my own soul needs to be made whole again in order to be able to engrave runes on it.
April 18th 1993
I've made the Weasley girl set the Basilisk on one of Harry Potter's best friends, the Mudblood Hermione Granger. It was all too easy. When everyone else had gone to watch a Quidditch match, she had been left behind alone in the library! To my surprise, Oleandra Greengrass showed up a few minutes after the attack, and they blamed her for it!
Now, from Harry's perspective, it should be personal now. I have faith that he'll be able to find his way to the Chamber of Secrets, given the incentive. Now, if I could also get the Greengrass girl to accompany him, I'll also be able to dissect her and find out her secrets!
