Chapitre 9: To The Monster Den

Even though Cassie wants to say no to Kurt's offer, she thinks about the situation with her daughter. Rona has a point. Camila needs to have a father.

But how sure was she that Theo would be nice to them?

Since the man has lost his memory, it means that all he ever knew was to be cruel.

What if? Cassie shook her head while she put her things back together.

Yesterday, Rona called and told her that Kurt would pick her up. Before she brings her daughter there, she needs to check out the house first.

Cassie thought she would never do something stupid, but when she agreed to Kurt's plan, in which she would pretend to be the man's fiancée, she did.

On the other hand, she got a call from the hospital where she used to work. She's thrilled that the director wants her to come back. But Kurt told her that all she had to do was take care of Theo. Plus, they raised her price by 100%.

It will help her because she will have more time to take good care of her daughter.

Nana Sela knocked at the door and slowly opened it. "Miss Cici, Mr. Kurt Vega is downstairs waiting for you," the old lady told her.

Cassie gave a smile and nodded. "Coming, Nana."

Kurt was on the phone when he saw Cassie walk down the stairs gracefully.

He said, "I'll call you back, Hunt," and then hung up. He got up and said hello to Cassie.

Cassie nodded her head and took a few steps toward him.

"Are you ready?" Kurt asked.

Cassie looked for her handbag and nodded.

"What about the rest of your stuff and Camila?" Kurt was a little confused because he couldn't see Cici's cute daughter.

"Before I bring my daughter to Theo's house, I will first check it out. You can't say anything against this because I've already agreed to the terms you want."

Kurt gave out a quiet chuckle. "I understand. So, shall we?" he asked as he showed the way out.

Cassie just nodded and didn't say anything.

As soon as they got to Theo's big lawn, Cassie couldn't help but be impressed by the place. It is a property worth a billion dollars, or maybe even a trillion. But how does the man live by himself in this huge, huge house?

He might have housekeepers, gardeners, and other helpers. But wouldn't people feel lonely if they lived alone?

Cassie had no idea what was going on around her. She saw how many men in black were there and how many surveillance cameras were set up. She was sure that everyone in the house would feel safe. But for her, it's a little bit scary.

When the car stops before the main door, Kurt says, "Welcome to the heartless mansion, Cici."

Cassie's eyebrows went up. She said, "We're not that close for you to call me Cici," but she said it sarcastically. She doesn't care if people call her that. She was just trying to be rude.

"Please wait here," Kurt said as they approached the couch. "I'll call Theo."

Cassie squinted. "Have you not informed me that he has injuries?"

His eyes got bigger. "Oh, absolutely. Apologies for that. You might want to come—" He was about to say more, but Cici stood up and cut him off.

"Show the way," she told him.

Kurt couldn't help but have a small laugh. She thinks that the woman's moves are funny.

"Stop smirking. You look like an idiot," Cassie said as she ascended the carpeted steps.

How can this house be perfect if the person living in it is a monster?

Cassie and Kurt went up the long stairs until they got to the second floor and stopped on the left side.

Kurt said, "This is Theo's room."

Kurt laughed when Cassie rolled her eyes.

"You know, I can picture what Theo's life will be with you. I'm not sure if you can really deal with him or if you'll just make his anger problems worse—"

"He doesn't know how to deal with his anger? That would be too bad. I thought someone with no heart can control anything."

Kurt gave a shoulder shrug. "You should figure that out," he said.

Cassie shook her head and stood by the door, waiting for Kurt to open it. She thought that man would just walk in, but he knocked three times before entering. She thought, 'Well, Theo must value respect, huh?'

"Hey, man," Kurt said in his teased voice, "Look who I brought!"

"Shut the fuck—" When Theo looked at Cassie, he didn't finish his sentence.

Cassie cocked her eyebrow and did her best to act like nothing was wrong. She doesn't want to give the impression that she is a little bit scared.

"Your doctor is right here. I think you may want to—"

Cici said sarcastically, "I can see that the patient is perfectly fine and can even swear at his friend."

"Pfft—" When Theo gave him a look, Kurt turned away and pretended to cough.

"You're alone?" Theo asked her out of the blue.

Cici's arched her left brow. "I'm with him," she said, pointing her right thumb in Kurt's direction.

Theo gives his temple a massage. "I know, and you need to stop being sarcastic," he said.

Theo stopped Cassie as she was going to remove the stethoscope from her medical bag, which she had placed on the table.

"You don't have to do that now. Kurt, go with her to the dining room and have a snack."

"No, I'm fine. I have to get to work. Mr. Vega, you should wait for me. After this, you have to take me back home," she said.

"Go back home? Aren't you staying?" Theo asked, feeling a little lost.

Cassie met his eyes. "I do, but not right now."

"But aren't you my fiancé?"

Cassie gave a small smile. "Yes, but I need to pick up my daughter—"

Theo said, "Our daughter."

Cassie shook her head. She isn't sure if she will believe everything she sees right now. Theo does not seem to have lost his memory.

Wouldn't his first question be, "Who are you?" as soon as she walked in? But no. It seems like he's also pretending.

She walks up to him and looks him over from head to toe. He only got a bandage on his left leg, some bruises and scratches on his left shoulder, and a bandage on his head to show that he had a head injury.

But when Kurt showed her his test results a few days ago, she saw that the man didn't need surgery. So, she wants to know how he lost his memory.

She looks like she needs to be careful, too. If the man is just playing with her, she won't lose. If he knows how to play, she does, too.
